The 2021 Preserve Our Parks Fund Drive
Nov 1 all-day
Online

Preserve our Parks

America’s national parks belong to all of us. They connect us to the natural world and root us to our nation’s rich and fascinating history.

National parks exist because people had the foresight to protect the wonder of these unique places for future generations. The parks are a legacy that has been handed down to us; it is up to us to prove that we are worthy of that legacy by continuing to protect and preserve these iconic locations for the generations that come after us.

That’s the idea behind our annual Preserve Our Parks Fund Drive. In order to provide the resources for the crucial work that’s needed in our parks in 2021, we must raise $1,332,000 before December 31.

As an added incentive, when you donate to the Preserve Our Parks Fund Drive, you are able to send a beautiful eCard featuring our national parks to whomever you want. Let your friends, colleagues, and loved ones know how important our national parks are to you.

103.3 Asheville FM Fall Fund Drive
Nov 1 @ 8:00 am – 8:00 pm
Online

Help 103.3 Asheville FM meet their goal of raising $30,000 during the week, so they can continue serving the WNC community and stay on the air.

Over the last few months, Asheville FM has responded to these crises in all the ways we know how. We’ve been sharing easy ways to connect to live musical performances from artists’ feeds around our community. We’ve brought you important community updates every day. We’ve been sharing information about the protests and the community’s and local government’s responses. Perhaps most importantly, we’ve kept broadcasting exceptional, round-the-clock music programming — providing the respite and human connection you need to get through this time of crisis.

We want to continue serving as a great community resource and stay on the air — for all of us. You can help us meet our goal of raising $30,000 during the week, with a donation of $60, $100 or $365.

During our fund drive week, we’re proud to also give back to the community by providing food to children in our community through Manna Food Bank’s Packs For Kids Program. We’re thankful for our friends at The Van Winkle Law Firm, as a challenge sponsor, who will be donating a backpack for every donation we receive. There are so many kids in our community who are food insecure. Help us help as many kids as we can with your donation today!

Portrait Sessions Give Back To The Flat Rock Playhouse
Nov 1 @ 11:00 am – 3:00 pm
Porch Portraits by Suzanne

Porch-Portraits-Cover.jpg

Best of all, Porch Portraits by Suzanne will donate $15 of every session to our great friends at Flat Rock Playhouse. My goal is to raise $15,000 for the Playhouse by the end of the year so any money over and above the price of $65 will go straight to them.

Perhaps most exciting, an extremely generous Playhouse donor has agreed to a MATCHING GIFT CAMPAIGN up to $36,000.18! This incredibly generous donation draws on the magic of Chai, the Jewish belief that multiples of 18 bring good luck. Meaning that every session booked will result in at least $30 for the wonderful folks at Flat Rock Playhouse.

For decades, Flat Rock Playhouse has been opening their collective hearts and sharing their fabulous talents to bring joy and entertainment to western North Carolina. This is an opportunity to show our gratitude at a time when they really need our support.

Together, let’s make magic happen! Help us kick off this campaign by contributing today.

Support Pisgah Legal: Dollar to Dollar Match Donations

A Wave of Evictions Expected This Winter
A federal moratorium (temporary halt) on evictions due to non-payment of rent went into effect on September 4th and will last until December 31, 2020. While this moratorium is a welcome step forward, it does not solve the ongoing eviction crisis.  Jim Barrett, Pisgah Legal’s Executive Director, said in a recent article that he “hopes this so-called moratorium buys some time, but if you think about it, it expires the end of December. When would you rather not be evicted?”

Learn more:

Pisgah Legal is receiving an average of 1,000 calls a week, with over half relating to housing and fears of eviction.  Your support will help provide the vital free legal services to help stem the eviction crisis for thousands of our WNC neighbors. Gifts made to support this important work are being matched dollar-for-dollar. Blue Ridge Humane Society Rescheduled the Cause for Paws Luncheon March 24 to November 6, 2020
Nov 6 @ 12:00 pm
Champion Hills

“It is with great regret and reluctance that the decision was made to cancel this event as it is one we are excited about and feel is a special opportunity for our community.” said Angela Prodrick, Executive Director of Blue Ridge Humane Society. “However, the health and safety of our staff, volunteers, sponsors, guests and contributors is of utmost importance.”

Adam with Molly cropped image

Join us at the Champion Hills Clubhouse with special guest speaker Adam LeGrand of K9s for Warriors. We will celebrate the positive impact of animal rescue not just here at home in Henderson County but in the lives of veterans across the nation. Adam will speak directly to the profound effect that a service animal has had in his life, after Molly was rescued from a Henderson County shelter and became a part of the K9s for Warriors Program.

In addition to Adam and Molly, the luncheon will feature the presentation of the first K9 Hometown Hero Award presented by Hunter Subaru to celebrate the dogs who do extraordinary things in our community! Nominate your guide, hearing, law enforcement, military, search and rescue, service, or Credentialed Animal-Assisted Therapy (AAT) dog for the Hunter Subaru K9 Hero Award here! The top three finalists will be invited to the Blue Ridge Humane Society Cause for Paws Luncheon for recognition and for the announcement of the overall winner.

Attendees who have already purchased tickets have the following options:

  1. Do nothing.  In that case, ticket(s) will be reserved for the November 6th event and Blue Ridge Humane will contact the ticket holder with further details as that date approaches.
  2. Ticket holders who have a scheduling conflict can donate the amount of their ticket(s) to the Blue Ridge Humane Society for the care of animals in the Adoption Center OR request a refund by contacting Laresa Griffin at [email protected] or (828) 692-2639 ext 304. If a refund is requested the process may take 1-2 weeks due to the current situation.

Ticket sales will still be open for the November date and updated details regarding the luncheon will be released in the near future.

BRHS asks that the public monitor its website at www.blueridgehumane.org, and their social media channels for updates regarding events, preparation or animal care in the midst of COVID-19 presence.

The Blue Ridge Humane Society, Inc., is a 501(c)3 animal welfare organization started in 1952 dedicated to ensuring the highest quality of life for animals in Henderson County and our neighboring communities. BRHS cares for pets awaiting adoption at the Adoption Center; offers low-cost vaccine clinics, animal education programs, pet training classes, and youth education and projects; coordinates community pet food assistance, emergency vet assistance, and the Spay Neuter Incentive Program (SNIP), which is a collaboration with Henderson County, the City of Hendersonville, and the Henderson County Animal Services Center.

If you believe in our cause, consider making a donation or learning how to volunteer by visiting the Blue Ridge Humane Society’s website at www.blueridgehumane.org or call (828) 692-2639.

Portrait Sessions Give Back To The Flat Rock Playhouse
Nov 7 @ 11:00 am – 3:00 pm
