Battery Park Book Exchange

Let’s toast to new friends and a successful future for WIB. Our official first meetup! Leave the laptops at home for this one – this is all about meeting new friends and getting to know each other.

Our host – the Battery Park Book Exchange and Champagne bar is looking forward to our arrival! They encourage us to take pictures of each other, the space and any of their staff – but please do not take pictures of other patrons.

I will be purchasing a bottle (or so) of champagne to toast our first event as well as a few of their famous boards. Please be prepared to purchase & pay for any additional drinks or food you may like while we are there. Keep in mind that this is a local business and they are letting us in on a normally busy night for them – we want to support them!

Thank you 🙏 and please feel free to message me with any questions.

CLOSED: Warhol: Silver Clouds Dates: March 6-May 25, 2020
May 25 @ 11:00 am – 6:00 pm
Asheville Art Museum
Appleby Foundation Exhibition Hall

Andy Warhol’s Silver Clouds create an immersive experience born out of the iconic Pop artist’s interest in innovation and experimentation. Warhol collaborated with Bell Labs engineer Billy Klüver to transform the then-new material Scotchpak into an enlivened and interactive work of art. First shown in April 1966 at the Leo Castelli Gallery in New York City, these air- and helium-filled balloons float like pillows through a space which, combined with their metallic surface, garnered the name Silver Clouds. The clouds notably became part of the design and choreography of Merce Cunningham’s RainForest, which premiered in 1968. Like the dancers in Cunningham’s work, visitors are encouraged to gently interact with the clouds and be inspired by their movement.
