With less than half a decade of programming under its belt, Cold Mountain Music Festival has already been recognized as one of the Southeast’s best goldmines for live music, outdoor recreation, and family-oriented activities. Located just outside of Asheville in one of Western North Carolina’s most pristine stretches of land, Cold Mountain utilizes the vibrant Pisgah National Forest as its playground, and encourages exploration throughout the two-day immersive experience. At the heart of the festival site is the glistening Lake Logan, which boasts plenty of swimming, paddle-boarding, and fishing. Paired with performances by some of live music’s leading forces on the scene and plenty of kid-friendly offerings, the upcoming Cold Mountain Music Festival will offer the trifecta of rustic summer experiences.
Weekend passes are on sale now on the Cold Mountain Music website. General admission passes are available for $75, and youth passes for those aged 12-17 can be purchased for $40 apiece. Overnight camping spots and catered breakfast meal tickets are also available for $75 (per site) and $12-$15 (per person), respectively. Group discounts may be applied for parties of 15 or more. Enter the code DioWNC at checkout to purchase each pass (minimum 15) for $60 each. Cold Mountain Music Festival is presented by Ingles Markets, with partners iHeartMedia and Haywood County Tourism Development Authority. For more information, visit www.coldmountainmusic.org. Moogmentum in Place is an upcoming series of fundraising live stream events, from May 9th- May 31st, celebrating Bob Moog’s 86th birthday and the one year anniversary of the Moogseum.
Moogmentum In Place will feature performances, musical and technical insights, and question and answer sessions with a prodigious and varied group of legendary musicians, composers, and music technologists. All events will be streamed from the Foundation’s Facebook page where attendees from around the world will have the opportunity to donate in any amount.
Moogmentum In Place will feature film composers and synthesists Alex Wurman (May 9th) and Michael Whalen (May 17th), renowned keyboardist and musical director Greg Phillinganes (May 15th), former Earth, Wind & Fire keyboardist Larry Dunn interviewed by Jerry Kovarsky (May 21st), theremin virtuoso and music technologist Randy George (May 23rd), and electro-acoustic violist/composer Martha Mooke (May 28th). A virtual tour of the Moogseum and other events are also planned. Further information about each event will be released the week prior to it occurring.

Check out our new weekly segment called In This Together, something to help bring us a little closer with music and conversation in a time when we need to be apart. Hosted by Daniel Gilliam and Teddy Abrams, with each show we’ll virtually gather with notable figures, musicians and you. You can listen Fridays at 3pm on 90.5 WUOL or watch live on Facebook.
The Asheville Downtown Association (ADA) and Foundation (ADAF) today announced that they’re taking Downtown After 5 virtual.
Based on state and local guidelines regarding public gatherings, the May 15 and June 19 Downtown After 5 events are going online. Through a partnership with IamAVL and The Orange Peel, Downtown After 5 will be live streamed to YouTube and Facebook.
The 2020 Downtown After 5 concert series, presented by Prestige Subaru, will feature only local Asheville area bands. May 15’s event features April B. & The Cool and Lyric.
Hitting the stage at 5:15, locals April B. & The Cool mixes funk rock sounds with expressive vocals and impressive guitar work to create a captivating energy.
Asheville native, Lyric and her band are up next at 7pm, with a sound blends soul, R&B, funk, even a little hip-hop. She’s racked up several Mountain Xpress “best of” titles, including best vocalist, best funk and best lyricist.
Virtual Downtown After 5 is presented by Prestige Subaru and sponsored by Explore Asheville Convention and Visitors Bureau and Carolina Hemp Company and Cambria Suites, with additional charitable support.
The May 15 Downtown After 5 will also be part of V-LEAF, a virtual celebration of LEAF Global Arts May LEAF Festival, which was postponed due to COVID-19.
Downtown After 5 is scheduled for July 17, August 21 and September 18. It’s possible that these events will need to go virtual as well. The Asheville Downtown Association will follow all state and local guidelines for community events with the safety of the community taking top priority.
Important note: The Asheville Downtown Association and its partners will follow all requirements from state and local officials in terms of gathering size, sanitizing practices and physical distancing. If these guidelines or restrictions change, the live stream may be postponed or canceled. The health and safety of the bands and crew are our top priority.

Greg has a long, extraordinary career and has played with scores of legendary musicians including Michael Jackson, Quincy Jones, Eric Clapton, Burt Bacharach, Jamie Foxx, Barbra Streisand, Rod Stewart, Andrea Boccelli, Herbie Hancock, Mick Jagger, Jennifer Hudson, Babyface, David Gilmour, John Legend, Garth Brooks, Aretha Franklin, Steven Tyler, Lionel Richie, Neil Diamond, Bruno Mars, Usher, Santana and Earth, Wind and Fire and many, many more.
He is a sought-after musical director and has led the band and talent for an amazing array of events including Stevie Wonder’s “Songs In The Key Of Life” tour (2014-2015), The Jackson’s 30th anniversary special, numerous Grammy Tribute shows, events at the White House, Cirque Du Soleil’s Michael Jackson Immortal tour, and multiple Gershwin Prize/Library Of Congress award events.
Aaron price is a longtime fixture of the Asheville music community. Known as an indispensable sideman and record producer, Aaron is known for working in the studio and onstage with many iconic Asheville bands. He is opening his personal studio to the public eye for NIGHTLY 9:30 performances (you can even make requests!) on his Facebook page. Aaron plays originals and covers at the guitar and piano and features the occasional special guest.

Self-proclaimed “gut folk”artist, Natalie Royal, has been writing songs and performing since she was a wee lass in the suburbs of Charlotte, NC. In 2009, she made the move to Nashville, TN to pursue a Bachelor of Arts in Song writing at Belmont University. (Yes, that is a real major.) She released her sophomore album, Harbinger, in 2016, and with several fresh tunes in her repertoire, she plans to hit the studio again early next year.When she’s not immersed in her own music, Royal enjoys cooking,starting (and finishing) jigsaw puzzles, reading historical fiction novels, and supporting other artists as much as she can.

Dave Cofell – A study in easygoing amiability and unforced charisma. His music is eclectic, a woven tapestry of songs with an over-all arc that comes together, telling a tale to remember. Scores of fans and promoters the world over declare that attending a Dave Cofell performance is a treat. Broad spectrum Americana – Progressive folk, country, rock, blues, originals and well known covers on 6 and 12-string guitars and banjo.
With the gift of a consummate storyteller, he shares both funny and tender moments. He is an artist whose first love is music and it shows.
Dave Cofell is a McKnight award winning ASCAP singer-songwriter and publisher, a member of the Recording Academy Grammys, endorsed by Shubb Capos, John Pearse Strings and Breedlove Guitars. Tours both nationally and internationally 10 months of the year and performs 200+ shows annually.
Dave has shared the stage with Garnet Rogers, The Pines, John Gorka, Ronny Cox and Chuck Suchy.
