Governor Roy Cooper announced on Tuesday, December 8th that North Carolina will begin a Modified Stay at Home Order in response to a rapid increase in North Carolina’s key COVID-19 trends. The Order requires people to stay at home between the hours of 10 pm and 5 am, and takes effect Friday, December 11th. The Order is set to remain in place until January 8, 2021.
The Order requires restaurants, bars, entertainment venues, personal care businesses, and more to close at 10 pm. Travel to and from work, to obtain food, medical care, fuel or social services, or to take care of a family member is exempted from the order. FAQs on the order can be found HERE.

We’ve learned a lot about adapting this year. Back in March, we canceled all of our upcoming events and volunteer opportunities. But it didn’t stop you from working to make Asheville cleaner and safer.
So we amped up our Cleanup Supply Station program, fully stocking existing locations and adding on 2 new stations, for a total of 7 Cleanup Supply Stations throughout Asheville & Buncombe County. We threw in our catchy #AVLquaranclean hashtag on top, and you did the rest!
Since March, 132 volunteers used these stations 36 times to collect over 2,700 pounds of litter from creeks and roads on their own time!! We are also incredibly grateful to Mountain Xpress for donating newspaper stands to be repurposed into these supply stations, the City of Asheville and Buncombe County Government for supporting cleanups, and to Mast General Store and Asheville Sun Soo Martial Arts for hosting our newest stations.
These stations remain stocked and ready for your quarantine pod’s next outing. Remember to sign out supplies, report the trash back to us afterwards, and return supplies for cleaning and reuse! The Henderson County Board of Public Education voted on Monday, January 4th that Henderson County Public Schools will resume under Plan C when they return from winter break on January 7th. Plan C is the fully remote learning model. February 1st is the goal date for a return to in-person learning.
Face coverings are required for children 5 years and older in HCPS Child Care facilities, per Sept. 4, 2020 guidance from NCDHHS Division of Child Development and Early Education.
UNDER PLAN C (UPDATED 1/5/21):
During Plan C, HCPS will offer its all-day (“Summer PLUS”) Plan C Child Care Services at five school locations to the public, prioritizing care for children of Healthcare Workers, Frontline First Responders, and Essential Workers.
Registration for a full week of care is required for all new and existing families, at $125 per week (The weekly charge for care January 7-8 will be $50.00).* Day-to-day registration is not available.
Hours of daily operation are from 6:30 a.m. to 6 p.m. Breakfast, lunch, and an afternoon snack will be provided. Payments must be made online at K12PaymentCenter.com.

There will be a maximum enrollment at each site. If the requested school site is full, please select another one for care.

Beginning Thursday, Jan. 7, 2021, HCPS will provide grab-and-go pickup meals at no cost to children ages 2-18 at 15 school sites on school days during implementation of Plan C. The “Meals On the Bus” routes will begin rolling the following week.

Amid the arrival of the long awaited COVID-19 vaccine, the demand for a well-known treatment for those battling the virus, convalescent plasma, has skyrocketed.
The Blood Connection (TBC), a non-profit community blood center, has seen the demand for this life-saving product triple in the past few months because of its effectiveness.
However, the need for convalescent plasma continues to far outrun the supply.
The release of the COVID-19 vaccine has created a challenge for TBC, as it reduces the number
of people who are eligible to give convalescent plasma. The Federal Drug Administration (FDA)
has recommended that donors who have received the vaccine should not donate convalescent
plasma but can donate whole blood (a regular blood donation). To give convalescent plasma,
donors must be symptom free for at least 14 days and must have proof of a positive COVID-19
test or positive COVID-19 antibody test.

The conference will offer more than a dozen workshops led by farmers and regional professionals, including several that address the continued effects of COVID-19 on the industry, such as Direct Marketing in the Time of COVID, Optimizing Your Online Store, and Planning for Meat Sales in 2021. The conference also includes a business planning track in collaboration with Mountain BizWorks. The popular Grower-Buyer Meeting will return in a virtual format, giving farmers the chance to meet individually with grocers, distributors, and chefs. Farmers can receive one-on-one support on legal, recordkeeping, marketing, and production planning issues.
Because of the busy holidays and cold and flu season, winter is traditionally hard on the nation’s
blood supply. Add in the ongoing coronavirus pandemic, and healthy blood donors can play a
big part in ensuring lifesaving treatments are available for patients throughout the winter
months.

A blood donor card or driver’s license or two other forms of identification are required at check-in. Individuals who

and weight requirements.
