Peter Sellers: A Life and Career in 4 Films: The Pink Panther
Oct 2 @ 6:00 pm – 8:00 pm
Fairview Library

The life and career of Peter Sellers was one of contradictions. On screen, he was hailed as a comedic genius. Behind the scenes, however, he was often overtaken by depression, addiction, and erratic behavior. His work would influence comedians and actors for generations, with his irreverent style and dedication to craft earning him multiple awards and nominations.

Join us for ‘The Pink Panther’, the second of a four-part retrospective on the turbulent life and career of Peter Sellers.
“Ownership of a rare jewel known as the Pink Panther is in dispute. Interested parties include a glamorous princess (Claudia Cardinale), a sophisticated thief (David Niven), and the inspector hot on his trail (Peter Sellers). Deceit and double crosses reign in this comedic romp across picturesque Italy. Who will win the Pink Panther?”

Run time: 113 minutes (1 hour, 53 minutes)
Not Rated

All screenings will be hosted by North Carolina Film Critics Association member James Rosario (thedailyorca.com), who will introduce each film and lead a discussion after.

Sunwatchers w/ Nest Egg
Oct. 2nd at The Mothlight

Sunwatchers are a fierce New York-based ensemble that blur the lines between avant-jazz, punk, psychedelia, Ethio-jazz, and desert blues – creating joyous, chaotic, mystical elegies to modern sound. The group – comprised of Peter Kerlin (bass guitar), Jim McHugh (electric guitar/electric Thai phin), Jason Robira (drums), and Jeff Tobias (alto saxophone/keyboard) – features current & former members of NYMPH, Dark Meat, Chris Forsyth’s Solar Motel Band, and Arthur Doyle’s New Quiet Screamers. Their eponymous 2016 album was released on Castle Face Records in 2016, and the band released their sophomore LP entitled “II” on Trouble In Mind Records on February 2nd, 2018. Collaborative and inclusive as a matter of personal politics, Sunwatchers have worked with artists including Eugene Chadbourne, Brigid Dawson (The Oh Sees), David First (Notekillers), Heather McIntosh, Ryan Sawyer, Jonathan Kane, Jessica Pavone, David Harrington, and many others. Sunwatchers also function as the co-organizers of Music Against Mass Incarceration, a biannual music and performance festival aiming to help dismantle the vastly unjust American prison system.

Eliada’s Annual Corn Maze
Oct 2 @ 9:29 pm

This year, Eliada will maintain some beloved attractions including the tractor ride, which now drives all the way around the Corn Maze, jumping pillow, corn kernel sand box, spider web climber, tube slides, and corn cannons.

Eliada is pleased to announce that the corn planted in the field is Non-GMO, and that Eliada used all natural fertilizers to help the corn grow.
The Corn Maze raises $100,000 for the agency every year, and we have come to rely on this event to support our programs,” says Davis-Bryant. “I never thought I’d have a job in which I relied on a field of corn growing! Changing up how we planted the corn field meant a lot to us, but was also a risk. I am proud of the agency for engaging in this kind of risk taking. The corn has grown beautifully, and we can be proud of the ways we have improved the event for the long-term sustainability of our land.
This year, Eliada is also adding beer and cider sales to the makeup of the event.

This option, available to guests only on weekends (Friday evenings, Saturdays and Sunday afternoons), will help the agency increase revenue to support the growing needs children and youth face in our community. Eliada is excited to work with local and national partners to provide an array of beer and cider options!
