It has long been said that an ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure. Looking ahead to cold & flu season, do your future self a favor and prepare for wellness now. Join author, teacher, and homesteader Ashley English as she shares information about and demos how to create the following fall and winter home apothecary remedies: Elderberry & Honey Syrup Ashley English is the author of 11 books, including all 5 books in her “Homemade Living series” (Canning & Preserving, Keeping Chickens, Keeping Bees, Home Dairy, and Home Apothecary), as well as A Year of Pies; Quench; Handmade Gatherings; A Year Of Picnics; The Essential Book of Homesteading; and Southern From Scratch. She holds degrees in holistic nutrition and sociology, and is an alumnus of both The University of North Carolina at Asheville and Clayton College of Natural Health. She has worked over the years with a number of nonprofit organizations committed to social and agricultural issues. What!!! Rahzel from the original Roots is coming to LEAF! The Human Beatbox aka the Grammy-winning Rapper/MC from the original, world-renowned Roots lineup, has been added to the Saturday night lineup of the October Festival.
Famous for his jaw-dropping vocal percussion and beatboxing prowess, Rahzel is not just a performer, he’s an experience. Dive deep into the pulse and rhythm of hip-hop (on the 50th anniversary of the genre) with this masterful artist who blurs the line between voice and instrument. It’s more than a show: it’s musical genius live onstage.
Aaaand … there will be a Beatbox Play-Shop for all ages. Don’t miss it!
Rahzel is one of the biggest names in beatboxing today, and continues to redefine the limits of the human voice. Known as “The Godfather of Noyze,” he was growing up in Queens when hip-hop blew up. LEAF is thrilled to welcome Rahzel to the fall Festival on the 50th anniversary of hip-hop.
Rahzel’s cousin Rahiem was an original member of the Furious Five, and Rahzel recalls sneaking into their shows, “watching Grand Master Flash before I could even see over the gate.” Rahzel embraced the philosophy that “not having’ was never an excuse for ‘not doing. … To me, [beatboxing] saves lives and I’m a prime example of it. It inspires kids to be creative and motivated.”
Through both his solo work and his stint with the live-music hip-hop group The Roots, Rahzel is credited with bringing beatboxing back to the fore of hip-hop in the 1990s. Rahzel can sing a chorus and beatbox the back-up simultaneously, a skill showcased on his signature song, “If Your Mother Only Knew,” from his groundbreaking first album, Make the Music 2000. Rahzel has worked with artists from Björk to Branford Marsalis.

The greenhouses are overflowing with beautiful Fall goodies, including mums, pumpkins, pansies and more, oh my! Stop by for a huge 25% off greenhouse-wide sale and join in the fun with food, friends, activities for all ages, and of course plants!
Ms. Susie and crew will be there enjoying cozy live music, a hot chocolate bar, and food from Cecilia’s Kitchen, while helping you find the perfect new houseplant or Fall favorite. We’re not forgetting about the kids either…with a scavenger hunt, guessing games, and coloring activities, our Fall Fest has it all.
The Harvest Fall Fest is *FREE* to the public. Parking is available on site but can be limited so it is recommended that groups carpool. This is an outdoor event. We can’t wait to see you!
