Hilliary Begley is a comedian and actress from Asheville, North Carolina. She is best known for her film debut role as Aunt Lucy in the Neflix movie “Dumplin’” (2018). In 2012 Hilliary embarked on her dream to become a stand-up comedian starting with open-mic nights and video shorts, eventually leading to her becoming a touring and headlining comedian. Before her film debut in “Dumplin’,” she was primarily known as a touring comedian, having toured cities such as Atlanta, New York City, Los Angeles, New Orleans, Charleston, South Carolina, and Charlotte, North Carolina and has been a headliner for over a year. Comedians she has opened for include Jon Reep, Fortune Feimster, Judah Friedlander, and David Stone.

Disclaimer Stand-up Lounge is the longest running comedy open mic in Asheville happening every Wednesday night. The show starts at 9:00, and there is no cover. Anyone wanting to perform needs to sign up by 9pm, and will get five minutes on stage. Mark Powell has been called the ” best Appalachian novelist of his generation” by Ron Rash, and a writer “on the verge of greatness” by Pat Conroy. He is the author of six novels, including Small Treasons (Simon & Schuster) and The Sheltering (Story River). Powell has received fellowships from the National Endowment for the Arts, the Breadloaf and Sewanee Writers’ Conferences, and in 2014 was a Fulbright Fellow to Slovakia. In 2009 he received the Chaffin Award for contributions to Appalachian literature. He holds degrees from Yale Divinity School, the University of South Carolina, and the Citadel. He lives in the mountains of North Carolina where he teaches at Appalachian State University.
