HRC OFFERS ADULT BEGINNER PICKLEBALL PROGRAM STARTING JANUARY 12TH

Hendersonville Racquet Club is offering a five week series of classes for adult beginner pickleball players.  Try Pickleball is an instruction program for beginners.  The Sunday night classes are 4-5 pm and 5-6 pm.  The cost is $99 for the five weeks and includes five hours of instruction, a pickleball paddle and a pickleball.

“Pickleball is the latest racquet sport craze. It combines elements of several racquet sports including: tennis, ping pong and badminton. It intensifies hand coordination and increases volley abilities. ALL WHILE HAVING FUN!” stated Certified Pickleball Professional Cre Still.

Hendersonville Racquet Club is a six acre complex that includes 7 outdoor tennis courts, 3 indoor tennis courts, four racquetball courts, three pickleball courts, an outdoor swimming pool, fitness center, group fitness room and outdoor leisure area by Shaw’s Creek and pond.

Swamp Rabbits Hockey offers fantastic fun for the whole family! The Greenville Swamp Rabbits play in the South Division of the Eastern Conference of the ECHL, the premiere AA hockey league. Approximately 4.4 miles on this Shuttle Hike. Level of difficulty is Mod to Medium. Meet at 10:30 a.m; return around 4:30 p.m. There will be an opportunity to view a Chestnut Sapling with Blight. This hike is often sheltered from winds, and offers a variety of trees/shrubs to identify, including Hornbeam, Spice bush, Sourwood, and Ash. NOTE: This section of the Blue Ridge Parkway is usually open in winter, but if not, we can try starting from closer to the Folk Art Center.

We are excited to share this new offering. With an orientation in subtle and clinical trauma, this workshop will educate participants about the effects of trauma and stress on the mind and body, along with providing tools for creating relaxation and healing. Each class begins with a lecture of how the nervous system functions in the body including relevant research on the impacts of trauma, moving into how yoga helps us work with trauma through research, and finally learning and practicing some skills that can help anyone to feel more at ease, empowered and in control in any yoga class.

About the instructor: Holly Edmonson is a Registered Yoga Teacher (RYT) who currently teaches yoga at YWCA and the Charles George VA Medical Center.

The Releasing Trauma with Yoga series will be held every third Sunday of the month from November through March, 11:15 am – 1:15 pm in YWCA’s upstairs Group Fitness Studio. This workshop is free for YWCA of Asheville Fitness and Aquatics Members and $5 per session for non-members. Participants can register for the entire series or come to an individual session. Skate, Roll, & Stroll is a disability-friendly time on the Big Ice! Come out in your wheelchair or walker, be pulled around the ice on a sled or in a wagon, walk on the ice or try your hand at ice skating!

Skate Roll and Stroll sessions will be held from 10am – 12pm. Ice walkers are free and available first come, first served. Guests are encouraged to bring their own sleds, wagons, and helmets. Volunteers will be available to assist with guests as needed.

This event is free of charge and offers free parking in the VIP lot off of Church Street. Free ADA parking is available in the loading dock parking lot off of Academy Street. Be sure to arrive early at 9:30am to lace up your skates!

Participate in one of the Asheville Hot Chocolate Races and enjoy a steaming cup of cocoa from French Broad Chocolates after completing your race, 5k and 10k are chip timed, 1K Kids Hill Climb and Marshmallow Dash are untimed fun runs for ages 12 and under.

Please join us for a fundraiser for the Asheville Humane Society. Pilates with Puppies will be a basic Pilates class, with puppies provided by AHS. Please BYO yoga or Pilates mat and a small towel. Please do not bring your own puppy! $15. Pre-registration required.
