Every Tuesday evening Isis presents our Tuesday Bluegrass Sessions. The sessions are hosted each week by a local bluegrass musician with friends or a band. Following the host band, Bluegrass musicians from the Asheville area gather on stage to jam in an open session. Occasionally, we feature a touring band that will perform prior to the open session and help co-host the jam. It’s always a great evening of music and community.
7:30-9:30PM: Host Band: Zoe and Cloyd www.zoeandcloyd.com
9:30 – til: Open Jam
Joining Zoe & Cloyd will be Kevin Kehrberg on bass and Bennett Sullivan on banjo. Kevin is a master of the upright bass having performed jazz, bluegrass and old-time music all over the world from Indonesia to Kyrgyzstan, Japan and beyond. He is a much sought after session player and the chair of the music department at Warren Wilson College. Bennett Sullivan is also highly regarded performer and educator, renowned for his skills on banjo and guitar and the originator of the online learning platform, TuneFox. A veteran of countless stages, Bennett has performed with Ben Sollee, Darin & Brooke Aldridge and Maria Muldaur and toured with Steve Martin and Edie Brickell in their Broadway musical production, Bright Star.
Hailing from opposite ends of the Appalachian mountains, Zoe & Cloyd is renowned fiddler and vocalist Natalya Zoe Weinstein and award-winning songwriter, multi-instrumentalist, and vocalist John Cloyd Miller. Their show is as diverse as their upbringing: coming from a lineage of klezmer and jazz musicians, Natalya trained classically in her home state of Massachusetts before moving south in 2004. John, a twelfth generation North Carolinian and grandson of pioneering bluegrass fiddler, Jim Shumate, is a 1st place winner of the prestigious Chris Austin Songwriting Contest as well as an Artist Fellowship recipient for songwriting from the North Carolina Arts Council.
As founding members of the acclaimed Americana trio, Red June, and long-time fixtures of the Asheville, NC music scene, the couple shifted focus to Zoe & Cloyd in 2015. Their debut recording, Equinox (2015) as well as their 2017 album, Eyes Brand New, both met with high acclaim and the pair have continued to gain momentum with their brand of “New Appalachian” music at performances and festivals all across the country. Bluegrass Unlimited Magazine agrees, proclaiming Zoe & Cloyd as “a musical collaboration that demands to be heard.” They will be returning to the studio in January 2019 to record their highly anticipated third studio album.

When reflecting on the current state of the environment, it seems that we have entered into times of seismic sorrows. Carbon emissions, water pollution, fracking, and changing climate patterns all point to a troubling reality with serious consequences for human and non-human populations. Through weavings, installations, sculpture, and print, artists Rena Detrixhe and Tali Weinberg (Tulsa, OK) explore the complex relationship between humans and the planet, offering insights, expressing grief, and creating space for resilience and change.
In Time of Seismic Sorrows is curated by Marilyn Zapf and organized by the Center for Craft. The Center for Craft is supported in part by the N.C. Arts Council, a division of the Department of Natural and Cultural Resources.
Winter can be the most beautiful time of the year at Chimney Rock. Leafless trees make for expansive views of Lake Lure and the Hickory Nut Gorge. The sky is clear; you’re likely to find a quiet spot to sit and enjoy the peacefulness. You may even see a critter scamper by you in the forest. Capture that special moment or scene on your camera, enter it in our Winter Wonders Photo Contest and tell us about it. We’ll use the winning entries on our website and Facebook album, and you’ll win some fun prizes. Photos must be taken within the Chimney Rock section of the Park.
Cost: No additional cost to enter.

We are honored to share our passion for our Beloved Black Bears in our exhibit at the “FW Gallery” in Woolworth Walk – downtown Asheville. We are grateful to have been chosen to be their Featured Artists. We want to also thank the many lovely people who work at Woolworth Walk and have supported and assisted us with the exhibit.
The FW Gallery exhibit will end Tuesday, January 29th at 6pm. Our permanent artist booth #229 downstairs “Beloved Black Bear” has over 50 black bear canvases 11×14 at $75 each. We hope you will stop by to visit.
We are happy to say that many black bear canvases have been sold and are now adorning many homes. Our wish is for all of us to share our compassion for the black bear with our friends, family, and neighbors and create connections with the bears giving them a voice.

Leif Larson, Son of Lar out of Narnia, was raised to fight the good fight against iHop for The Love of Waffle House. He and his elven warrior princess, Brittany, fight to make sure all Waffle Houses always have coffee and a proper deck of cards at all times of day. To Relax, they make their rounds to The Glass Jug Beer Lab and Beer Study – Durham.
One day, Leif drank too much Event Horizon at Beer Study, then went to The Glass Jug to see Chris, where he accidentally fell into the boil kettle. Thus, a barleywine, Baby Leif, was born.
On January 16th, The Glass Jug and Beer Study Durham will feature Baby Leif on tap. However, only a small amount of Baby Leif will be available, as the rest of Leif is still maturing in bourbon, rum, and apple brandy barrels. Once ready, the barrel-aged version will be released as #BarleywineIsLeif.
—
Baby Leif is a 9.7% ABV barleywine that is bold and complex with flavors of caramel, toast, and dark fruit that blend perfectly into a very drinkable barleywine that packs a punch. Available on draft at both locations. A limited run of crowlers will be available at The Glass Jug while supplies last.
The first 50 people to purchase a glass of Baby Leif at either location will receive a collectible Leif trading card. These things are going to be hotter than Beanie Babies in the year 1996.
