He was born in Kennett, Missouri, and currently lives in Austin, Texas. If or When I Call is his first novel.

Angela Narciso Torres is the author of What Happens Is Neither (Four Way Books 2021) Blood Orange, winner of the 2013 Willow Books Literature Award for Poetry, and the chapbook, To the Bone (Sundress Publications 2020). Recent work appears or is forthcoming in POETRY, Missouri Review, Quarterly West, Cortland Review, and Poetry Northwest. A graduate of Warren Wilson MFA Program for Writers and Harvard Graduate School of Education, Angela has received fellowships from Bread Loaf Writers’ Conference, Illinois Arts Council, and Ragdale Foundation. She won the 2019 Yeats Poetry Prize (W.B. Yeats Society of New York), and New City magazine named her one of Chicago’s Lit 50: Who Really Books in Chicago. “What Happens is Neither/ the end nor the beginning. /Yet we’re wired to look for signs,” offers the speaker of Angela Narciso Torres’ latest collection, which approaches motherhood, aging, and mourning through a series of careful meditations. In music, mantra, and prayer, Torres explores the spaces in and around grief—in varying proximity to it and from different vantage points. She writes both structurally formal poems that enfold the emotionality of loss and free verse that loosens the latch on memory and lets us into the sensory worlds of the speaker’s childhood and present. Caridad Moro-Gronlier is the author of Tortillera, winner of The TRP Southern Poetry Breakthrough Series: Florida (Texas Review Press 2021) and the chapbook Visionware (Finishing Line Press 2009). She is a Contributing Editor of Grabbed: Writers Respond to Sexual Assault (Beacon Press 2020) and Associate Editor for SWWIM Every Day. Moro-Gronlier is the recipient of an Elizabeth George Foundation Grant and a Florida Individual Artist Fellowship in poetry. Her work has been nominated for three Pushcart Prizes, The Best of the Net and two Lambda Literary Awards. Wild Kingdom explores the world of academia, examining this strange landscape populated by faculty, administrators, and students. Using what she calls “received academic forms,” Jehanne Dubrow crafts poems that recall the language of academic documents such as syllabi, grading rubrics, and departmental minutes. “Honor Board Hearing,” a series of prose poems, depicts challenges frequently faced by undergraduates, offering fictionalized accounts of cases involving plagiarism, theft, sexual assault, and substance abuse.

This is an easy 1.5 mile gravel trail hike to the first water fall. For those with the adventurous side and can handle the challenge, we will trek to the upper falls from there, this portion IS NOT EASY. For those who cant make the second part you can stay at lower falls and admire nature. We will grab you on the way back down. The hike to the upper falls is about a mile and requires some climbing, but the pay off is amazing. It literally is my favorite of all the falls. The photo above is the Upper falls.
Plan to meet @ 10am at the Asheville Mall Parking lot (Sears). Once we have the group we can follow each other to the trail head (@ 20 minutes away). Be sure and bring water and something to snack on.

Let’s enjoy a quiet, mindful stroll through the woods together. A silent hike takes us to scenic treasures on the arboretum property where we will do a restorative qigong practice. Qigong is a series of simple movements that supports the body’s natural healing processes, promotes healthy circulation, invites inner calm, and releases tension from the body. Hikes will be mindfully-paced and qigong practices easy and accessible.

We encourage all participants to make conscious, courteous decisions based on your own and others’ wishes and needs for safety. Jenne Sluder is a qualified mental health professional and is certified through the International Association of Yoga Therapists as a trauma-sensitive therapeutic yoga instructor. She holds a Master’s in Transpersonal Psychology: Ecopsychology from Naropa University and specializes in mind-body approaches to improving mental and physical health. An Asheville native, Sluder works with individuals and with groups using somatic (body-based), contemplative (mindfulness-based), ecological (nature-based), and compassion-based practices.

Smart Start Partnership for Children is an early childhood nonprofit serving Henderson County families
with children 0-5, with the mission to support, educate, and advocate to build a strong foundation for
the youngest members of our community. Smart Start Partnership for Children has officially moved
offices and now it is time to move all the gently used children’s books. Before this big moving day
happens, Smart Start is hosting ONE MORE final book sale in 2021. Throughout the year Smart Start
hosts book drives with key community partners. The books collected are often used at community
events, early literacy activities, and to support the once-a-year Smart Start book sale fundraiser. During
the covid-19 pandemic Smart Start has been able to host sales, but the organization has not been able
to attend community events. Smart Start wants to get these books into the hands of children, families,
and teachers.
Communications and Development Director Carrie Ann Chandler had this to say about the upcoming
sale.
“We’ve had two virtual sales and one hybrid book sale during this pandemic. While we have
been able to make some gains in fundraising through these efforts, we have not been able to reach the
families and wider community that our live February event has historically reached. We are thrilled that
we will be able to go back to our regular in-person February event in 2022. Please join us for one more
shopping event in 2021!”
Smart Start plans to host a Pay What You Can Bargain Book Sale for the week of June 14th – 18th. This
special sale will happen at the old Smart Start offices located at 722 5th Ave West, Hendersonville NC
28739. Folks will be welcomed into the old Smart Start offices to shop boxes and boxes of books, over
6,000 books still available. Special pricing, $Pay what you can for a BOX or a BAG of books. Please see

Smart Start plans to host a Pay What You Can Bargain Book Sale for the week of June 14th – 18th. This
special sale will happen at the old Smart Start offices located at 722 5th Ave West, Hendersonville NC
28739. Folks will be welcomed into the old Smart Start offices to shop boxes and boxes of books, over
6,000 books still available. Special pricing, $Pay what you can for a BOX or a BAG of books. Please see

We’ll have an activity sheet with lots of fun adventures for all ages. You can pick up a sheet at any library starting June 1, or download it HERE. The 2021 Summer Learning Program is open to young people, preschool through teen, with books and activities for every age. All library programs are free and open to children of all abilities. Come in and see what the library has for you!
Smart Start Partnership for Children is an early childhood nonprofit serving Henderson County families
with children 0-5, with the mission to support, educate, and advocate to build a strong foundation for
the youngest members of our community. Smart Start Partnership for Children has officially moved
offices and now it is time to move all the gently used children’s books. Before this big moving day
happens, Smart Start is hosting ONE MORE final book sale in 2021. Throughout the year Smart Start
hosts book drives with key community partners. The books collected are often used at community
events, early literacy activities, and to support the once-a-year Smart Start book sale fundraiser. During
the covid-19 pandemic Smart Start has been able to host sales, but the organization has not been able
to attend community events. Smart Start wants to get these books into the hands of children, families,
and teachers.
Communications and Development Director Carrie Ann Chandler had this to say about the upcoming
sale.
“We’ve had two virtual sales and one hybrid book sale during this pandemic. While we have
been able to make some gains in fundraising through these efforts, we have not been able to reach the
families and wider community that our live February event has historically reached. We are thrilled that
we will be able to go back to our regular in-person February event in 2022. Please join us for one more
