We are excited to announce our first annual CCA Asheville event coming in January to Highland Brewing Co. As concerns with the future of our coastal fisheries and habitat becoming more and more critical, we are looking forward to bringing a voice for these issues to the western part of our state. To read more about our activity in Asheville and why all N.C. citizens should care about the issues at our coast, check out our latest blog post at https://ccanc.org/an-appeal-to-western-n-c-sportsmen/ and get your tickets to the event at ccanc.org/event/Asheville

The Cooperative Extension of Polk County is hosting our annual berry plant sale. This year, the Cooperative Extension director has chosen four varieties of blueberries, two varieties of raspberries, two varieties of strawberries, and one blackberry variety that have proven to specifically thrive in the North Carolina Foothills.
Orders will be accepted for plants now through February 22 and will be available for pickup in mid-March. Proceeds from this fundraiser go to support the activities, classes, and research that make the Cooperative Extension such a vital part of the Polk County community. When reflecting on the current state of the environment, it seems that we have entered into times of seismic sorrows. Carbon emissions, water pollution, fracking, and changing climate patterns all point to a troubling reality with serious consequences for human and non-human populations. Through weavings, installations, sculpture, and print, artists Rena Detrixhe and Tali Weinberg (Tulsa, OK) explore the complex relationship between humans and the planet, offering insights, expressing grief, and creating space for resilience and change.
In Time of Seismic Sorrows is curated by Marilyn Zapf and organized by the Center for Craft. The Center for Craft is supported in part by the N.C. Arts Council, a division of the Department of Natural and Cultural Resources.
Winter can be the most beautiful time of the year at Chimney Rock. Leafless trees make for expansive views of Lake Lure and the Hickory Nut Gorge. The sky is clear; you’re likely to find a quiet spot to sit and enjoy the peacefulness. You may even see a critter scamper by you in the forest. Capture that special moment or scene on your camera, enter it in our Winter Wonders Photo Contest and tell us about it. We’ll use the winning entries on our website and Facebook album, and you’ll win some fun prizes. Photos must be taken within the Chimney Rock section of the Park.
Cost: No additional cost to enter.

We are honored to share our passion for our Beloved Black Bears in our exhibit at the “FW Gallery” in Woolworth Walk – downtown Asheville. We are grateful to have been chosen to be their Featured Artists. We want to also thank the many lovely people who work at Woolworth Walk and have supported and assisted us with the exhibit.
The FW Gallery exhibit will end Tuesday, January 29th at 6pm. Our permanent artist booth #229 downstairs “Beloved Black Bear” has over 50 black bear canvases 11×14 at $75 each. We hope you will stop by to visit.
We are happy to say that many black bear canvases have been sold and are now adorning many homes. Our wish is for all of us to share our compassion for the black bear with our friends, family, and neighbors and create connections with the bears giving them a voice.
Love, April Johnson & Jeff Miller

With the beginnings of Nationalism, the burgeoning middle class, and recent changes around the globe, the Early Romantic period was a time to explore new ideas in painting, literature, and music. Composers of the early romantic period, such as Franz Schubert and Carl Maria von Weber, became more expressive than their predecessors, expanding both the size of the orchestra and a composition’s emotional range. Join us and express yourself!

Join PSABC for the history of American ENKA and its Dutch founders who created an industry and town in Hominey Valley. Travel back to 1901 when E. W. Presenter Carol Hensley will take us through this exciting story from beginning up through the present and future plans.
