PATIO SHOW: Asheville Junction
Jul 30 @ 6:00 pm
The Grey Eagle

PATIO SHOW: Asheville Junction

Asheville Junction is one of Asheville’s newest bluegrass/Americana bands, playing fun and lively music right out the gate. Our shows feature female and male vocals and harmonies, hot fiddlin’ and instrumentals, beautiful ballads, beloved standards, unique covers and originals. There’s a lot going on at the Asheville Junction! Folks find themselves singing, clapping, stomping or laughing along to our music before they know it.

Tierra Raiti, lead singer and fiery fiddler for the band, has been noticed as a formidable rising musician and invited to appear on the Woodsongs International Radio Show in March 2022. Tierra was a featured singer and player on an album she cut when she was 14 years old, Galax to Toledo Tracks. Recordings from this album have been played in roots and Americana radio shows around the world. Still in high school, Tierra is a phenomenally accomplished and versatile singer and fiddler, having won numerous fiddle contests and violin competitions, as well as singing competitions and scholarships ranging from jazz to classical to country.

Asheville Junction formed when mother-daughter duo Tierra and Maria Raiti moved to Asheville from Ohio and joined up with long-time local musicians Brad Pope on upright bass, Tim Comstock on mandolin and Frank Eastes ringing out the 5-string banjo. As a newly formed band with experienced and talented musicians and sounds, we are excited and honored that we’re scheduled to play at many of the region’s established community events, breweries and music venues in our first year.

In 2022 Shindig on the Green, which features a stage show and informal jam sessions around the park, continues at its original location — formerly known as City County Plaza, now transformed into the new Pack Square Park. Locals and visitors alike come together downtown “along about sundown,” or at 7:00pm for those who wear a watch, until 10:00p.m. Concessions are available. Come experience the beautiful music and dance traditions of Southern Appalachia on a summer evening in the mountains.

Eats and Treats: Concessions are provided by The Hop Ice Cream Cafe, and there are plenty of other establishments nearby for food and drinks.

Parking: Parking is available in marked and metered spaces throughout downtown Asheville (free after 6pm) and the city’s municipal decks (evening rates vary). Very convenient to Shindig, Buncombe County’s Charlotte Street Parking Deck is directly across College Street from Pack Square Park and the Buncombe County Courthouse. Parking for buses is available at the Asheville Public Works Building parking lot at 161 S. Charlotte Street. This lot is vacant on Saturday nights. It is recommended that passengers unload at Pack Square Park before the bus is parked in the lot.

Dogs or Other Pets: Please leave your pets at home (unless it’s a service animal). The City of Asheville restricts pets from being present at outdoor special events. Pets, even the best behaved ones, are not allowed at Pack Square Park during Shindig.

Public Transit: There is a major transfer point on College St. for public transit. Check www.ridetheart.com for maps and schedules.. Route E1 provides Saturday evening service to and from the ART Station.

Steve James is an original roots music adept whose guitar, mandolin, singing and writing have made him familiar around the world to those whose inner soundtrack resonates to real folk and blues. Steve’s musical journey of over half a century started in New York where childhood playthings included Leadbelly 78s and his Dad’s dusty guitar. That trip led from the lofts of the Lower East Side to the hills of Tennessee, Memphis and the deeper South where the young autodidact got pointed in the right direction by elder wizards like Sam McGee and Furry Lewis who told him: “Get your own song!” Settling in Texas, Steve employed what he’d learned during his journeywork on stage and in the studio to become known as “an underground legend” at home and to embark on world travels that continue to the present. Taking the “pass it on” covenant that comes with learning real roots music seriously, he has participated in literally hundreds of music workshops and camps and created numerous books and video lessons for guitar and mandolin. Also experienced as a luthier, Steve, who now calls Seattle home, devotes his down time to the repair and restoration of vintage instruments and has acted as a product rep and design consultant for Collings and National, the makers of his signature model guitar.

The DonJuans are a performing duo comprised of GRAMMY® Award-winning songwriters Don Henry and Jon Vezner.

However, you will be impressed to know that the group includes two GRAMMY® Award-winning songwriters, Don Henry and Jon Vezner. Their song, “Where’ve You Been” (recorded by Kathy Mattea) was the first song in country music history to sweep all major song of the year honors including the GRAMMY®, ACM®, CMA, and the Nashville Songwriter’s Association International (NSAI) awards.

In the nearly 25 years since “Where’ve You Been,” Don and Jon have performed in venues from the Bottom Line in New York City to the Bluebird Café in Nashville, sharing stages with artists as diverse as Joey Ramone, John Hartford, Michael McDonald, and David Crosby. Their songs have been recorded by a multitude of artists including Janis Ian, Ray Charles, John Mellencamp, and Miranda Lambert to name a few. They’ve also been touring extensively with folk legend Tom Paxton. Working as a duo, the DonJuans bring

an impressive array of songs, experience, and gifted musicianship. Their first single and video “Snow, Snow, Snow” came out in December 2018 and their highly anticipated debut album “The Don Juans Review” comes out in 2019.
