When the Camp Fire started in the hills above our Chico brewery on November 8, 2018, it soon became the deadliest and most destructive wildfire in California history. The fire burned more than 153,000 acres, killed at least 85 people, and destroyed more than 13,000 homes. Many of our employees and community members were severely impacted by this tragic event.

In the days following the fire, we announced plans to brew Resilience Butte County Proud IPA, a fundraiser beer for Camp Fire relief. We committed to brewing the beer and donating 100% of the sales to the Sierra Nevada Camp Fire Relief Fund, aimed at long-term community rebuilding support. And we asked every brewery in the country to do it with us.

We sent out the “bat signal” calling our friends in the industry, asking our suppliers to donate ingredients, asking other breweries (our competitors) to donate their time and labor costs, and asking our wholesalers and retailers to carry the beer for free. It was a big ask, and we never could have anticipated the response.

More than 1,400 breweries signed up to brew Resilience. Our suppliers donated ingredients to every brewery nationwide. Wholesalers and retailers agreed to carry the beer and donate every dollar they received. All of them agreed to do this for free to benefit people they had never met.

In all, Resilience Butte County Proud IPA should hit the market in mid-late December more than 17,000 barrels—or 4.2 million pints—strong. Every dollar Sierra Nevada receives will go to those impacted by the Camp Fire.

Thank you to the brewing community. Thank you to our suppliers. Thank you to our wholesalers and retailers. And thank you to every single customer who is helping us rebuild our Butte County community—one pint at a time.

Sierra Hull is a singer, mandolinist and former child prodigy who signed with Rounder at age 13 and distinguished herself by becoming the first bluegrass musician to receive a Presidential Scholarship to the prestigious Berklee College of Music. Though she is best known for her work as a mandolin player, Hull is also respected as a composer and lyricist, having worked closely with 15-time Grammy Award-Winner, Bela Fleck. And now, Sierra invites everyone to enjoy the musical sounds of a Bluegrass Christmas celebration.

A three part pop-up series featuring local artists, this event is both a great opportunity to grab something unique for the folks you love (and yourself!) and a fundraiser for the Firestorm Community Sustainers Program. A portion of each sale will help to underwrite social movement space and grassroots community programming at our co-op.

Different artists will be featured on each date, so plan to attend all three! Hours will be 11am to 4pm.

There are 6 Handcrafted Children’s Playhouses to choose from and bid on – as well as a plethora of vintage, new and handmade items available.

Shipping for all items can be arranged at Winning Bidder’s Expense, or items may be picked up locally at The Garage on 25 in Fletcher, NC.

If you are financially able to provide the winning bid on a playhouse but have no use for one…you may choose to make the bid to benefit VHF itself for use at our farm.

Additionally, local visitors are encouraged to vote for their favorite playhouse by dropping one dollar ($1) for each vote in the containers provided near each house.

The playhouses are on display outside of The Garage on 25 for your viewing pleasure. Stop by and take pictures of your kids or yourself in front of them and share the pics on your Social Media site(s), or The Garages or VHF FB Page. Keep an eye out for Santa Visits to the playhouses as well.

Celebrity Officials will be judging the playhouses to choose which playhouse builders will receive Trophy Prizes. All vote-generated funds go directly to the VHF.

Our 2018 intern, Gabriel Whitlock, will be embarking on a 1,500 mile bike tour from his home in Fairview to Little Rock, Arkansas to attend the Southern Sustainable Agriculture Working Group. Gabe intends to raise awareness about hunger, food insecurity, and the ways that The Lord’s Acre works towards community-based solutions. “I saw this fundraiser as a chance to give back to all that The Lord’s Acre has given to me and just make that circle complete,” says Gabe.

Founded in Paris in 2009, Trio Karénine is lauded for its musical integrity and joie de vivre by critics and audiences alike. Top prize winner at the ARD International Competition in 2013, the ensemble has performed in major halls including Wigmore Hall in London, Salle Pleyel and Auditorium du Louvre in Paris, Musée des Beaux-Arts in Montréal, Palazzetto Bru Zane in Venice, Laeiszhalle in Hamburg, and Prinzregentheater and Herkulessaal in Munich. The Cooperative Extension of Polk County is hosting our annual berry plant sale. This year, the Cooperative Extension director has chosen four varieties of blueberries, two varieties of raspberries, two varieties of strawberries, and one blackberry variety that have proven to specifically thrive in the North Carolina Foothills.

Orders will be accepted for plants now through February 22 and will be available for pickup in mid-March. Proceeds from this fundraiser go to support the activities, classes, and research that make the Cooperative Extension such a vital part of the Polk County community. In mid November in the midst of the largest wildfire in California history Sierra Nevada Brewing, based out of Chico, CA called upon breweries to help with raising funds for The Camp Fire relief effort.

Collaboration has always been a theme among craft breweries and we decided to commit to supporting this cause. In the spirit of the industry’s commradery we invited the guys from Taylor Brothers Brewing, who will soon join us as a part of Marion’s craft beer scene, to brew this special batch with us.

We’re excited for the future of craft beer in our city and grateful to represent Marion in this national craft beer industry fundraising campaign.

We’ll release Marion’s version of the Resilence Butte County Proud IPA in our taproom on January 25th. 100% of all sales will go directly to the Sierra Nevada Camp Fire Relief Fund.
