Adding a Southeast destination for designer toy makers and collectors, *Assembly Required brings designer, bootleg and art toy artists from around the country, to present and sell their work.
Asheville’s premiere designer toy expo, *Assembly Required, is presented by Unboxing Asheville, Morgan’s Comic’s, 103.3 Asheville FM and Appalachian Pinball Museum. Focusing on this artistic movement, designer toys are a form of lowbrow pop art. These toy makers pull inspiration from a variety of subversive segments of culture, as well as subcultural elements, including (but not limited to) comics, tattooing, street art, and everything related to toys of the 60’s through the 80’s.
Echoing production methods of traditional toy manufacturers, designer toys are usually intended to be displayed as collectibles, rather than to be played with. Toy makers mediums range from resin to vinyl, from plastic to plush; with molding, and production techniques such as kitbash, sofubi and bootleg (recently coined ‘Artisanal Action Figure’, by New York Times writer, Rich Juzwiak [11/23/18]). (https://www.nytimes.com/2018/11/23/style/bootleg-toys-action-figures.html).
Juzwiak interviews such artists as the Sucklord and Killer Bootlegs, both of whom will be present at *Assembly Required.

Our month-long anniversary celebration continues with a double bottle release of our flagship Luminosity Belgian Tripel and, for the first time ever, our new Point of consciousness Coffee Tripel.
Deep golden in color, with a wonderful complexity from the classic Trappist yeast strain, our Luminosity is slightly sweet and fruity with notes of orange, banana, spice and soft alcohols. This high gravity tripel is surprisingly easy drinking with a light body which, if you aren’t careful, can sneak up on you! Permanently available on tap, our flagship brew will only be available in bottles for a limited run.
Our Luminosity became so popular over the years we began to experiment with a variety of adjuncts. Coffee was by far the most well-received of those adjuncts, and thus the search for the perfect roast began! After several different batches, we finally found exactly what we were looking for with the help of our friends at High Noon Coffee Roasters. We are very proud and excited to introduce the first run of the Point of Consciousness Coffee Tripel in 500 ml bottles. Drawing on inspiration from the cult classic, A Clockwork Orange, this flavor-packed brew calls you to awaken, explore, discover, and reach your Point of Consciousness.
Both brews will be available in 500ml bottles and on tap while supplies last. Don’t miss out!

Cosmic Charlie has taken the Grateful Dead experience to a new level with “Dark Side Of The Dead”.
Dark Side Of The Dead is a hybrid show featuring the music of both the Grateful Dead and Pink Floyd. The centerpiece of the show is a live performance of Pink Floyd’s legendary “Dark Side Of The Moon” album.
The album is performed start-to-finish, by the Cosmic Charlie “big band” that includes two drummers, 4 keyboards, backup singers & saxophone. Before and after the Dark Side album performance, Cosmic Charlie will offer up two heaping helpings of it’s signature high energy Grateful Dead.
Cosmic Charlie was born in the musical Mecca of Athens, Georgia. From its summer 1999 inception, the band has swiftly cemented its reputation as a band that puts a unique and personal twist on the Grateful Dead catalogue, a Dead cover band for folks that are ambivalent about Dead cover bands. Rather than mimicking the Dead exactly, Cosmic Charlie chooses to tap into the Dead’s energy and style as a foundation on which to build. The result is healthy balance of creativity and tradition, and both the band and its audience are taken to that familiar edge with the sense that, music is actually being MADE here tonight.

Fortune & Glory
BAND BIO
The American Rock Band, Fortune & Glory is based in Asheville, NC.
When asked what brought them together, band member Eric Barker replied, “All of us had been in ego-driven bands and had experienced the negative effects of self-serving ideals. We wanted a true cooperative that focused on quality song writing and creative freedom for each band member. We have joined together to produce something larger that ourselves. We are writing and performing in service to the song.”
On stage, a Fortune & Glory performance bears out Eric’s sentiment. Harmony rich vocals accompanied by three guitars, bass, drums, and keyboard produce the layered depth of experience that fans have been waiting for. It is unusual to see such fluidity among band members. Lead vocals pass from one singer to another. Band members move from one instrument to another seamlessly. You get the distinct impression that Fortune & Glory is on to something fresh, something truly impactful. This is a band to watch!

Voodoo Visionary
Hailing from the Dirty South musical mecca of Atlanta, GA, Voodoo Visionary’s improvisational funk dance music balances a tight, grooving rhythm section with soulful organ, funky clavinet, singing synthesizers, masterful guitar licks, and moving vocals to create a sound the group calls psychofunk. Influenced by a wide array of artists from Parliament Funkadelic and the Meters to the Grateful Dead and Allman Brothers Band to Miles Davis and Herbie Hancock, Voodoo Visionary has a uniquely blended sound that’s guaranteed to put the ‘oogie in yo boogie.
The band consists of Dennis Dowd (keys), Trent Gilson (bass), Scott MacDonald (vocals), Jose Rivera (percussion) Mac Schmitz (drums), and Mike Wilson (guitar) and features Martin Anderson (saxophone) and Ben Otieno (trumpet) known as the Side Chick Horns. Over the past 11 years, these players have built a unique chemistry that allows for exceptional improvisation during live shows and relaxed and creative songwriting sessions.
Voodoo Visionary released their debut album, Spirit of the Groove in March 2015 and their sophomore album Off The Ground in February 2017. While playing across the country over the last several years, the band has been direct support for Col. Bruce Hampton, Karl Denson’s Tiny Universe (featuring Jimmy Herring), TAUK, DJ Logic, Big Something, Zach Deputy, Earphunk, Roosevelt Collier, Jerry Joseph, The Main Squeeze, Futurebirds, Fruition and more. In May 2015, they made their major festival debut at Counterpoint Music Festival near Rome, GA. Since then, they have excelled further into the national music scene with festival performances at Suwannee Hulaween, Sweetwater 420 Fest, Imagine Festival, Backwoods Music Festival, Funk Fest, Purple Hatters Ball, Great Outdoors Jam, and Hookahville.

The nationally recognized, 7th Annual Asheville Marathon and Half marathon, will return to Asheville’s Biltmore Estate on March 16-17, 2019. The Asheville Marathon and Half events are ’boutique style’ events with limited entries available of 1,525 runners per day.
In 2018 the Asheville Marathon was named by Outside Online as one of the Top 9 vacation-worthy marathons and The Top Ten Best Spring/Summer Marathons to Run by MapMyRun. We were also listed as one of the 70 American Road Races every runner should finish by Runner’s World Magazine.
In 2017 the Asheville Marathon was named Top 25 Must-Do American Marathons by Competitor Magazine. In addition, the Asheville Half Marathon at Biltmore was honored to also be selected in the “Best Of” category in the 100 Half Marathons Club.
Run in America’s largest backyard at Biltmore Estate in Asheville, North Carolina at the 7th Annual Asheville Half Marathon 3/16/19 & AVL Marathon & Half Marathon on 3/17/19 OR DO BOTH DAYS and complete one of our Challenges! Details can be found on our website at www.ashevillemarathon.com. #RUNLUCKY7AVL
In the Asheville Marathon and Half Marathon, held on the grounds at Biltmore Estate, runners will explore 26.2 or 13.1 miles through America’s largest backyard in the 7th Annual event. Asheville Marathoners and Halfers will wind through hardwood forest, crayon-hued meadows, spring bloom-crackling gardens, and freshly cut views of the estate in March 2019.
The first HALF Marathon is on Saturday and on Sunday we have a Marathon and another Half Marathon – or challenge yourself and do BOTH DAYS in one of our two challenges! The BACKYARD TO BACKYARD CHALLENGE (Both Halfs – Saturday and Sunday = total of 26.2 miles) or 39.3 miles in the Backyard to Vineyard Challenge (both Saturday Half and Sunday Full Marathon)! This is the original Asheville Marathon and only race of its kind to come to Biltmore Estate in Asheville, North Carolina.
The Course
Asheville Marathoners will experience a couple of tall hills before mile eight and the remaining journey is a mixture of valley and rolling terrain. Beginning on-road near Antler Hill Village area, runners will climb to the Deerpark Restaurant, sail up and along the main road to the Biltmore House, and loop by, within feet from the massive main entrance doors of the House, to enter the Walled Garden. Runners will then edge along the Azalea Garden and lagoon paralleling the French Broad River, transition onto packed dirt carriage trails, and explore west quarter vistas of the Biltmore House normally off-limits to the public. The final stretch of the Asheville Marathon runs directly through working vineyards to finish back on east side.
Asheville Half Marathoners begin at Antler Hill Village and its many shops and attractions, the first loop will waft exquisite aromas from the kitchens of Deerpark Restaurant into the nostrils of competitors: surely a breath of fresh air to lungs that will no doubt be burning in the miles to come. Next, the course will lead to the site of the world-renowned Biltmore House itself, almost close enough to reach out and touch the doors to the main entrance. Immediately thereafter, the journey will proceed into the Walled Garden. As the House’s splendid architecture gives way to horticultural marvels, the meandering route winds along the Azalea Garden and lagoon.
With the broad-shouldered French Broad coursing within its nearby banks, there will occur a transition to dirt carriage roads. Here full marathon entrants will head towards the “wild west side” of the estate via a newly built bridge while half marathoners, turn around and finish their final three miles on their way up to the finish area at Antler Village.
Running for a Cause
Those participating in the Asheville Marathon and Half Marathon are not only competing for awards, scratching off bucket list items, or having the best day of their lives, but are also supporting local charity partners.
