Music Movie Mondays Series: MONTEREY POP
Jun 7 @ 7:00 pm
Grail Moviehouse

Grail Moviehouse in Asheville’s River Arts District continues its popular event series: Music Movie Mondays. Showcasing the best in new, classic and cult films about music, these special screenings feature an introduction by music journalist Bill Kopp (that’s me), followed by a screening of the film and then a moderated discussion about what we’ve just seen and heard.

The latest in the series is MONTEREY POP, the documentary film by D.A. Pennebaker showcasing the first great pop music festival. The film features legendary perfomrances by Otis Redding, The Who, Jimi Hendrix, Jefferson Airplane, The Byrds, The Grateful Dead and more than two dozen other acts. A rousing success, the festival created a template for the festival movement.Details are in the attached press release; more info at http://musoscribe.com/movies

Music to Your Ears Discussion Series: BOB HINKLE
Jun 7 @ 7:00 pm – 8:30 pm
Asheville Guitar Bar

The next installment is Wednesday, June 7, and the special guest will be BOB HINKLE, founder and owner of popular music hall White Horse Black Mountain. He got his start as a musician here in WNC, eventually forming a group; recording an album; going solo and releasing another album; working with influentail rock/Americana pioneers The Band on their popular Rock of Ages album; working for Bob Dylan’s notorious manager Albert Goldman; serving as head of A&R for a record label; becoming an artist manager himself, and managing several high-profile artists including Harry Chapin, Manfred Mann’s Earth Band, The J. Geils Band and more. And even all that is only part of the story; Bob Hinkle went on to a VP position at a major label, overseeing one of its popular divisions. And then instead of retiring, he launched White Horse Black Mountain.

The man has stories.

In conversation with host/moderator Bill Kopp, Hinkle will share stories and engage with audience questions/discussion about his life and career in the music business.

ANTHONY HAMILTON FEATURING THE TON3S (FORMERLY THE HAMILTONES)
Jun 8 @ 7:30 pm
Peace Concert Hall

GRAMMY® Award-winning singer, songwriter, producer and actor Anthony Hamilton has sold over 50 million albums worldwide and been proclaimed a “national treasure” by the Los Angeles Times. The North Carolina Music Hall of Fame inductee has cemented his place in the history books as the “narrator of love” with awe-inspiring performances and emotionally raw lyrics. Hamilton first burst onto the scene in 2003 with his smash hit “Charlene,” which garnered the attention of NPR and resulted in him starring in their Noteworthy documentary series. In 2007, he made his film debut in the critically acclaimed American Gangster, and in 2012, he lent his vocals to the Django Unchained soundtrack.

Hamilton now adds author and publisher to his lists of accomplishments with the unveiling of his first self-published book Cornbread, Fish n’ Collard Greens, where he shares the inspiration for some of the iconic songs in his illustrious career and his love of southern food.

SUNDAYS ON THE RIVER: The Sea The Sea w/ REBECCA LOEBE
Jun 11 @ 4:00 pm – 6:00 pm
Olivette Riverside Community & Farm
REBECCA LOEBE
As one DJ puts it, Rebecca Loebe “has an almost supernatural ability to get the crowd singing along.” Over the past decade, the Austin-based singer-songwriter has taken her fans along for the ride, touring nonstop across the United States, Canada, Japan, Europe, and the UK. If you love lyric driven, full-throated modern troubadours like Brandi Carlile, Jason Isbell, and Phoebe Bridgers, then Rebecca Loebe is a must-listen.
After she performed her own arrangement of Nirvana’s ‘Come As You Are’ on the first season of NBC’s The Voice, Adam Levine and Christina Aguilera fought for the chance to work with her. Adam professed, “I just love listening to you sing.” Loebe’s original songs have also earned recognition from critics, fans, and songwriting competitions around the world.
When she’s not on tour, you can find her snuggling her puppy Lola, watering her vegetable garden, curled up with a good book, or in her home studio where she recently recorded an acoustic covers album called Secondhand Songs, which is available for free on her website.
For the rest of the year she’ll be performing a limited number of shows across the US, Europe, and the UK on The Back 40 Tour – a celebration of growing up with your heart on your sleeve. Each show will feature a unique setlist comprised of award-winning original songs, surprising covers, quirky humor, and engrossing stories about a life on the road.

THE SEA THE SEA
Chuck E. Costa and Mira Costa, is an Upstate New York based indie folk-pop duo featuring what Bob Boilen (NPR’s All Songs Considered) calls “excellent harmonies” & Huffington Post calls, “Two of the loveliest male-female voices you might ever hear this or any other year.” The group’s 2020 release, Stumbling Home, dubbed “otherworldly” by RollingStone marks the duo’s third full-length album, and the duo’s first primary recording / engineering credits on one of their albums, as well as that of co-producers—teaming up with recent Grammy and Tony award winner Todd Sickafoose (Hadestown, Anais Mitchell, Ani DiFranco, Andrew Bird).
