JONES PARK IS BEING REBUILT AS CANDACE PICKENS PARK OCTOBER 2023!

We need your help to get this built – it will be a volunteer-built park October 4-8, 2023.

Rendering of the future Candace Pickens Park to be built October 2023. Learn more about Playgrounds by Leathers.

Sign Up to Help!

*** If you’d like to volunteer to help please SIGN UP HERE ***

Before the build dates it will take a lot of coordination – we’re looking for a few good people to help as:

Childcare Coordinators – providing supervision and fun activities for kids during construction

Food Coordinators – acquiring food from the community for each day of the build

Want to help? Know someone who might be able to help with one of these coordinator positions? Email: [email protected] or call David Rodgers 828.545.9571

In mid-May we will have a design similar to the former playground to present to the community.

Donate to help build the park!

Doors open at 5:30 p.m. Stories about coming out will be shared at 6:00 p.m. and the performance will begin at 7:30 p.m. and runs approximately an hour.

After hearing poignant stories of coming out and a stellar performance by the chorus, the multi-talented performer Divine Holeburn takes center stage with a groundbreaking one-person drag show, “I Am What I Am.” This nationwide touring production serves as a fundraiser for the ACLU’s Drag Defense Fund, supporting drag queens, trans individuals, and the entire queer community. “I Am What I Am” offers audiences the chance to witness a fusion of live singing, enchanting narrative, and a truly unique exploration of Divine’s origin story. Recognizing the urgency of the situation, Divine is committed to using her platform to combat bigotry and raise funds for the ACLU’s Drag Defense Fund. By collaborating with community groups across the nation, Divine aims to support those affected by discriminatory anti-drag and anti-trans laws.

With a voice that transcends boundaries and a gift for storytelling, Divine will unveil the trials, triumphs, and transformative moments that have shaped her extraordinary life. Audiences can expect an immersive narrative brought to life through exceptional artistry and sheer talent, with the possibility of even encountering a puppet during the show!

“Not only was Divine’s storytelling and singing pitch-perfect,
but this was also one of the most heartwarming andwholesome bits of entertainment
I have ever enjoyed.” Michele Louzon, executive director of Arms Around ASD

“I Am What I Am” promises to be a theatrical experience like no other, captivating audiences with Divine’s remarkable journey and leaving a lasting impact on hearts and minds. Tickets are available at www.AshevilleDragBrunch.co

Anyway, this native of Charlotte, North Carolina, now residing in New York City, has been featured on Gotham Comedy Live on AXS TV, Red Eye with Tom Shillue, at the HBO Comedy Festival in Vegas, Bridgetown Comedy Festival in Portland, Oregon, the Boston Comedy Festival, Michael Moore and Jeff Garlin’s Traverse City Comedy Arts Festival, the Vancouver Comedy Fest and was a finalist in the 30th Annual Seattle International Comedy Competition. A seasoned headliner, Paul has performed in forty two states and ten countries, including two armed forces tours. HIs debut solo album, “Tense and Uncomfortable” is available on Stand Up! It’s alive! The electrifying adaptation of Mel Brooks’ monstrously funny film will leave you in stitches. Grandson of the infamous Victor Frankenstein, Frederick Frankenstein (pronounced “Fronk-en-steen”) inherits his family’s estate in Transylvania. With the help of a hunchbacked sidekick, Igor (pronounced “Eye-gore”), and a leggy lab assistant, Inga (pronounced normally), Dr. Frankenstein aims to fulfill his grandfather’s legacy by bringing a corpse back to life. Eventually, of course, the monster escapes and hilarity continuously abounds. With such memorable tunes as “The Transylvania Mania,” “He Vas My Boyfriend” and “Puttin’ on the Ritz,” Young Frankenstein is scientifically proven, monstrously good entertainment.
