We love contra dance, and nobody gets paid for making the dances happen. We all just pitch in. You can too. Here’s how it works:
- Help us OPEN or CLOSE, and dance for free all night long! It only takes 30 minutes to an hour.
- Help us at the DOOR, and dance for free half the night AND another whole night!
ALSO – if you want to volunteer on a regular basis, e.g. work the early door every 3rd Thursday, tell us and we’ll set that up!

Volunteer Opportunities
Early Host: Arrive by 7:15, greet the sound tech, band, and caller. Get into the safe, take out the starter money, count and fill out pay-out sheet. And advise/supervise volunteers.
Openers (3 people needed): Early Arrive by 7:15 pm, check in with Early Host, sweep the hall, set up chairs, make sure the bathrooms are clean and stocked.
Early Door Person (2 people needed): Arrive by 7:30 check, in with Early Host, work when needed to take money at the door. Alternate with your other door people and Early host to switch off who sits and who dances. Goes ’til 9:00pm.
Closers (3 people needed): Job time: 10 minutes. Break down the hall, put away chairs, tables, sweep the floors, empty and take out trash. Check in with the Late Host to make sure everything is done
Late Host: Arrive by 9:30, check-in with Early Host, the pay-out form should be filled out. Dancers should pay full price until first contra after the waltz break. Count the money, do the payout, supervise breakdown and close the hall.

Literacy Together has a determined group of students waiting for volunteer tutors so they can move forward on their goals for a better future. We’re offering in-person and remote volunteer opportunities. We have programs teaching English to immigrants, adult literacy for folks working on a GED, and youth literacy for kids struggling to learn to read. In addition, we welcome everyone -even if they are not ready to volunteer- to attend to learn about the literacy challenges we face in Buncombe County. Thank you!

We’re putting our build crew back together and we’d love to have you join us. Every 2 weeks, we’ll meet at 9 am for hands-on set construction! Whether your talents are building, painting, or you just want to learn, come out and join us every other Saturday for some creative fun. Tools and work gloves are helpful but not required

National Novel Writing Month is here and North Asheville Library has you covered!
We’ve set aside a quiet space for all our aspiring novelists to come work towards their word count goals. So come spend an hour or two with us and get into the creative flow. Refreshments provided

National Novel Writing Month National Novel Writing Month (NaNoWriMo) is a fun, empowering approach to creative writing. The challenge: draft an entire novel in just one month. Why do it? For 30 wild, exciting, surprising days, you get to silence your inner critic, let your imagination take over, and just create! We want to help. Come by our library and have a quiet space with other would-be authors to think, plan and perhaps, talk over ideas. We’ll have coffee and light refreshments available, along with comfortable seats, and a place to spread out a bit and think. Maybe one day we’ll have YOUR novel in our library collection! - RSVP by “joining” this project
- Meet at Silver-Line Park at 12:00 pm.
- Receive instructions and gear, and head out as a group to pick up trash.
- Return gear to Silver-Line Park at 1:00 pm and enjoy volunteer rewards!
Need to know
Dress in comfortable walking shoes and clothes. Meet at Silver-Link parking lot at 12:00 pm. After signing in, volunteers will receive their cleanup gear. We’ll review safety and instructions upon arrival. Return your gear to the Silver-Line parking lot at 1:00 pm and enjoy volunteer rewards!
