Ciderfest is a great way to meet cider makers from all over North Carolina, try lot’s of cider, and celebrate everything that cider has to offer. A portion of the proceeds from this festival will directly benefit the NC Cider Association.
Join us at the Greenville Convention Center for On the Runway to Fame Fashon Show. Glamour Pose and The Model with a Purpose welcomes all models, designers, vendors, photographers and guest to our 1st annual ON THE RUNWAY TO FAME fashion show on June 18, 2024, in Greenville, SC. This show will allow designers from all over the world to come and showcase their brand on the main stage to hundreds of people in the audience. There will be a multitude of models of all shapes and sizes that will be ready to set the stage on fire with unique runway walks… If you’re interested in being a model, designer or vendor please register. In 2014, a group of Vietnam combat veterans began meeting at the Charles George VA Hospital in Asheville to participate in a unique creative writing program. The focus was capturing their stories through essays and poetry to find the voices war had taken from them. The hope was to reclaim a sense of their shared humanity, build camaraderie and find some degree of healing.
To continue this work, the NC Veterans Writing Alliance Foundation will be offering free creative writing classes at the East Asheville Library in June and July. The goal is to provide healing through the art of creative writing to all veterans in our community.
Join other veterans for this series of classes on Tuesdays at 4:30 p.m. from June 11-July 30 at the East Asheville library. To sign up, please e-mail Ron Toler at [email protected].

Democrats need to be more actively messaging and to overcome the makers of fake news with the truth! Join this ongoing group of writers working together on Letters to the Editor and Opinion Editorials. We’ll discuss the issues we care about most deeply and craft a plan to respond to events as they occur in real time.
The group meets the first and third Monday of each month for writing, responding to one another’s work, scheduling submissions, and exploring media outlets across the state.

Tuesday, 7/2 at 6:00 pm – Dark City Poets Society Workshop Circle (outdoors in the garden, weather permitting.)
Dark City Poets Society is a completely free poetry group that is open to writers of all ages and experience levels.
Join us at the Black Mountain Library from 6:00-7:30 pm on the first Tuesday of every month for our (respectful) feedback group.
The Fiddle/Mando & Banjo Weeks Concert II on Tuesday, July 2 features the wide-ranging music of mandolin virtuoso Mike Marshall, classical mandolinist Caterina Lichtenberg, progressive bluegrass from mandolinists Emory Lester and John Reischman, and banjo player Bill Evans, Irish music & more from Andrew Finn Magill, Alan Murray and Liz Knowles, and old-time from the college’s own Natalya Weinstein.
All shows begin at 7:30 pm in the college’s Kittredge Theatre. Tickets are $35 per concert (during Old-Time Week, ticket price includes dances following concerts). Children under 12 are $17. Limited tickets are available for check or cash only in Asheville at Malaprops Bookstore, and in Black Mountain at Acoustic Corner.

Poetry is the written act of paying attention. Paying attention to words, rhythm, and writing but most importantly the worlds that inspire you to write. Namely, your world.

Have you ever swooned at the thought of exploring your full expression, only to shuffle around the house more determined to rearrange mothballs than get something on paper?
Poetry is undoubtedly a practice, but it doesn’t have to be an intimidating sport for Creative Gods alone. The only “ask” is to take note and notice of your life.
We’ll help develop the work itself, together.
This full-bodied beginner’s poetry class will help you shift from “Oof, I could never…” into “Wait, where’s my journal?!” by tuning into your world: to the color palette of grass, to coffee-shop conversation, to the twitch in your left elbow. If you want language for the volcanic prayers of your soul or to describe your partner’s voice whispering “I love you” at 4am, we’ll get there. This class weaves the elements of poetry, forms of poetry, guided discussion with peers, and the works of prolific poets all into a multidisciplinary play space. Plus, oodles (oodles!) of writing time to build personal confidence and craft. This class immerses itself in artful experimentation across mediums, paired with a toolkit of technical writing skills. It’s the ultimate permission slip to be a beginner.

The Blues is a testament of the human condition expressed through raw truth. These emotions expressed range from injustice, heart-break, triumph and love. The Blues is a narrative of resilience and is the root of many popular genres of music such as R&B, Jazz, Hiphop and Rap.
The 2024 Black Mountain Blues experience is a collaborative effort between LEAF Global Art and White Horse Black Mountain – two non-profit organizations dedicated to connecting communities through music and culture-keeping initiatives. The Black Mountain Blues artist line-up showcases a carefully curated representation of Delta, Memphis, Chicago, Texas, Piedmont and Female Blues musicians who will take the stage across varies venues in downtown Black Mountain, NC.

Heritage Fire Asheville, the all-inclusive, walk-around tour, will feature a lineup of local chefs and artisans, each grilling globally inspired, heritage-breed proteins al fresco. An all-star cast of top chefs from Asheville and beyond will be on-site serving up delicious bites prepared over live fire. Participating talent include Jason Sweeney (Asheville Proper), Erica Glaubitz (Bun Intended), Benjamin Sullivan (Cranford Bros BBQ), Santiago Vargas (Mikasa Criolla), Jeff McInnis & Janine Booth (Root & Bone – Hendersonville), Michael Lewis (Ukiah Japanese Smokehouse), and more. In addition to one-of-a-kind live-fire culinary creations, Heritage Fire will feature entertainment, axe throwing, custom hats, and permanent jewelry. Free flowing cocktails, wine, brews, and beverages will be available. After tastings, tour goers will also have the chance to vote for the Heritage Hero champion.
