In celebration of National Poetry Month and the wonders of the natural world, join local poet Brit Washburn to explore and craft nature poems! Bring your five senses and an open heart! Ages 6-12.
Seed starting is an affordable way to start gardens for different seasons. Isaac Wyatt, Agricultural Program Assistant with Henderson County Extension, will teach the basics of seed starting.

Calling all Poets! The Weaverville Library is collaborating with Weaverville WORDPLAY to host poetry workshops at the Weaverville Library. We will be working on crafting our poetry and offering feedback to writers.
Bring a poem or two that you are working on and join us!

As part of our Volunteer Work Day at the SAHC Community Farm, we will focus on planting 250 fruit trees in the NEW Food Forest! Help support fresh healthy produce in your community, and see your efforts grow in SAHC’s future U-pick orchard. We will plant 12 different varieties of apple trees – great for everything from fresh eating to making sauce or cider.
Each tree is about 3-4 ft. tall, and holes will be prepared in advance – so there will be minimal digging involved. No experience needed. The weather has been soggy today but should be beautiful on Friday.
If you want to plant a tree and make a positive impact on the environment and community health for Earth Month, this is your opportunity!

This winter and spring join us for an introduction to pollinators presented by Bee City USA Asheville. Pollinators are under threat, but
there’s plenty we can do to help right in our backyards.
We’ll talk about:
- What is pollination
- The importance of pollination
- Pollinators & their identification
- The importance of pollinator habitat
The presenter for this program will be Athena Rayne Anderson who holds PhD in Ecology with a focus on native pollinators. Athena is also a Certified Pollinator Steward through the Pollinator Partnership and works with Bee City USA Asheville to promote the value of native pollinator plants.

Come on by for night of spoken word presented by Dark City Poets Society at Oak and Grist Distilling Company. Everyone is welcome to share a few poems or just sit back and drink for a good cause.
The event is free and $1 from every classic cocktail will be donated to Friends of the Black Mountain Library.

Dr. Francesco Di Gioia, a microgreen expert, will show us how to grow these nutrient-dense tiny greens in limited space, in a relatively short time, even on a windowsill or in your kitchen. He will share simple tools, tips and techniques and you’re sure to learn ways to make microgreens a healthy complement to your gardening experience.

For nature and literary lovers, ecopoetry is the perfect collaboration. Taking inspiration from your backyard, a tree you love, the bird that visits your feeder every day, and so much more, we’ll learn how to write about the things in nature that catch our eyes and hearts. Interested in some examples? Check out Drew Lanham, Mary Oliver, and Alice Walker.
Bring a favorite pen and we will have projected images to help your imagination.

Donnie Henry is a Creative Writing student at Warren Wilson College. They are a poet, painter, avid reader, river lover, and a fan of all amphibians. They work in their college Herbarium and love talking about it!

Our popular annual Houseplant Exchange is back and this year we’re going bigger and bolder! We’re adding garden starts and seedlings. Bring in anything you don’t want and take anything you do! The plant exchange is available all hours that the Weaverville Library is open April 16th- May 16th. The exchange is free and self-serve. |
