Tryon Arts and Crafts School is pleased to announce that our next exhibition hits very close to home with a lively presentation of painted wooden toys made circa 1915 through the 1930s by the Tryon Toy-Makers and Wood-Carvers. In a special addition, the exhibition will be complemented by a display of handcrafted wooden toys by Younger Brother Woodworking, the studio of local artisan Ray Buckmaster. Together, these two exhibits celebrate both Tryon’s historic and contemporary traditions in toy-making craftsmanship.
This exhibition reflects the enduring spirit of craftsmanship that has long defined Tryon, connecting past and present in a celebration of artistry, history, and community.
The dual exhibition will run May 2 through June 26. Mon-Fri, 9am-4pm; Sat, 9am-1pm
Elderflower Care Community, a local nonprofit organization dedicated to caring for dementia patients and their families, alongside the Arby’s Foundation will celebrate its grand re-opening with the Asheville community on Thursday, June 26. Elderflower will host an official ribbon-cutting ceremony beginning at 4:00 p.m. with food and music for guests to follow.

The LightEn Center of Consciousness & Action (LCCA) is a new 489-acre retreat center in Marshall, NC (~30 minutes north of Asheville) set to open in September 2025. LCCA will serve as a soul-focused sanctuary and learning center for individual and collective growth. The Center will host current and emerging leaders to cultivate and deepen the inner work needed to be more effective change agents in the world. The center will feature five teaching spaces, an 8,000+ sq ft spa, fitness center, auditorium, event hall, dining hall, reception building, administrative building, horticultural complex, and 76 guest cabins. Above and Beyond is PARI’s signature camping experience designed to immerse high school students in the world of space science and research while building confidence and critical thinking skills.
Originally developed in partnership with Duke University and refined for nearly two decades, this space camp explores the universe through astronomy, physics, and astrobiology, while also providing time for adventure and fun.
The process followed by scientists and researchers who’ve made space science their career is modeled to show how new discoveries are made about the universe. Campers are provided the tools and guided through the process by professionals who have made space their life’s work.
This year’s camp will focus on the unique challenges of human space exploration, near and far. From the impact of stars on the planets in their systems, to the composition of atmospheres and regolith, we’ll present the tools to answer a myriad of questions that could one day help humanity spread beyond Earth.
How do we find water or breathable atmosphere, or can they be made? How do we measure radiation from a star or classify exoplanets? Can a cave or lava tube on Mars provide adequate shelter for humans? What resources can be harvested from asteroids? Maybe you’ll help answer a question like these.
Kanuga is thrilled to announce the return of its Summer Day Camps for rising first through sixth graders, with five weeklong sessions planned for June and July 2025, at its Bob Campbell Youth Campus. Registration is now open.
In the serene mountains of Western North Carolina, campers will find fun and adventure in action-packed sessions staffed by well-trained, compassionate adults who specialize in keeping young children safe, entertained and engaged. Kanuga’s wooded campus offers children the opportunity to play, explore, swim in mountain lakes, hike to scenic vistas, paddle canoes, create arts and crafts and so much more.

When PARI got its first 3D printer over a decade ago, our educators set out to find a way to combine it with space science. With practice, experimentation, and some help from our friends, 3D Planets began a few years later in 2015.
3D printers are continue to grow in use and find new uses in science and technology, and space exploration, and we’re excited to offer our next round of 3D Planets programs and camps.
3D Planets is a camp experience designed to immerse students in Planetary Geography, 3D Modeling and Printing, Three Dimensional Spatial Reasoning, and Communication.
