The Adventure Center of Asheville is excited to host the 10th annual Haunted Trail, Asheville’s only family friendly haunt! This event is ideal for Halloween lovers of all ages, 3-12 being the suggested age range. This is the third year in a row the Adventure Center has hosted this one of a kind live outdoor theatrical experience where guests are promised an entirely immersive and interactive spooky night out while also ensuring no contact. Every year the show is loved by boils and ghouls from all over WNC and we hope to see you there! For younger guests who still aren’t sure about being scared, even for fun, a “Sweet Peek Tour’ is offered nightly at 6:45 pm. The trail is actor free at this time and they can decide if they would like to re enter the line and receive the full show. The Treetop Adventure Park Aerial Glow Trail is also available for guests 4 years or older to enjoy at this event! Climb on two of our aerial trails while they are illuminated with thousands of colorful twinkle and laser lights. If you want to enjoy both of these amazing activities, combo passes are available and WILL sell out, so make sure you reserve your tickets early! *The Haunted Trail does not sell out, however the entrance closes at 9 pm. Don’t miss PIRATES COVE! Featuring a 30 ft Pirate Ship Escape Room- Test ‘yer wit mateys! 10 voyages available nightly for purchase (groups of up to 6 per voyage) Live Mermaid Encounter with photo opportunity. Pirate activities including a walk the plank obstacle course and shark feeding In addition to the Haunted & Aerial Glow Trails and Pirates Cove, there will be a giant festival tent with several local vendors, delicious Mellow Mushroom Pizza and more! Local artists and arts advocates can now reserve tickets ($45) for the inaugural 2022 State of the Arts Brunch, taking place Wednesday, November 2 from 10:30 a.m.-12 p.m. at The Orange Peel in downtown Asheville. Organized by the Asheville Area Arts Council, the brunch provides a critical snapshot of the current state of our creative sector. It also connects all members of the arts community, no matter their medium or method of participation, through celebration, education, and activation.
The brunch offers not only the opportunity to connect with area artists, but also to learn and share information essential to sustaining a thriving arts community. Asheville Area Arts Council Executive Director Katie Cornell will share the State of the Arts update – a report on the present and future of the arts in Asheville and Buncombe County. The update will highlight topics including overall creative jobs and industry sales for 2022, the Buncombe County Creative Jobs pandemic report, a creative manufacturing study co-developed by the Arts Council with Land of Sky and Riverbird Research, and more.
The Arts Council will also share a not-to-be-missed announcement that will shape the future of the arts in Asheville, including several exciting new contributions the organization will make to the local arts community.
Additionally, featured speakers Mayor Esther Manheimer and Buncombe County Board of Commissioners Chair Brownie Newman will share remarks about how the City and County support arts and culture.
John Ellis, longtime arts advocate and former Executive Director of the Diana Wortham Theatre, now the Wortham Center for the Performing Arts, will be presented with the John Cram Arts Leadership Award (the “Crammy”), honoring his contribution to the arts in Asheville. Ellis will also announce his choice of local arts-based nonprofit organization or community project to receive an arts council grant of $1,000.
Attendees will enjoy a hearty, family-style brunch spread courtesy of 67 Biltmore, hosted in the spacious, lively Orange Peel (101 Biltmore Ave.), one of the premier performance venues in downtown Asheville.
“If you care about the arts in our area, this is the event for you,” said Katie Cornell, Executive Director of the Arts Council. “This is Asheville’s creative pulse check with exciting announcements, a delicious meal, and great conversation – you won’t want to miss it!”

This November, Hendersonville audiences will have a fundraiser like no other. Patti O’Furniture, celebrity drag queen, will host a drag bingo fundraiser on November 5. The evening will feature two shows, a family-friendly show at 7 PM and an adults-only (18 and over) show at 9 PM. Tickets are $35 and are available online at HVLtheatre.org or by calling the Box Office at (828) 692-1082. Groups of 10 or more receive a 10 percent discount.
All proceeds will benefit Hendersonville Theatre. The ticket price includes a bingo card (a $5 value) and one beverage. Prizes will be awarded for winners of each round of bingo, as well as most creatively dressed. The fundraiser is sponsored by Dogwood, Hendersonville Pride, Lawn Fawn, Nichola Rae Photography, Raymond’s Garden Center, Street Fair, The Poe House, Wag! A Unique Pet Boutique and Water Cat Conduit.
Recently seen on season two of HBO’s We’re Here, Patti O’Furniture is making her Hendersonville debut. Patti is one of the most sought-after emcees in the region. She first hit the stage in 1999 and has been entertaining audiences across the country ever since. A fixture in the Charleston, Charlotte and Columbia drag scene, Patti has been named Miss South Carolina Pride and Miss Red Ribbon Friends of Myrtle Beach, where she spent her reign raising money for HIV/AIDS services along the SC coast.
In 2012, she was presented with the crown and title of Vista Queen Emeritus for her fundraising for Trustus Theatre in Columbia where she helped raise over $75,000 to support professional theatre.
Patti’s alter ego is a college professor from Spartanburg, SC. One thing has remained consistent since that very first show: every dollar that Patti collects on stage gets donated back to the community. All of her tips are donated to causes including HIV/AIDS prevention and education, animal welfare, LGBTQ+ civil rights, the environment and a host of local arts organizations. To date, she has raised over $1.5 million.
Since 1966, Hendersonville Theatre has provided an inviting and nurturing environment for live theatre, as well as high-quality, affordable entertainment for the residents of Hendersonville and surrounding areas. Hendersonville Theatre is wheelchair accessible, with free parking behind and in front of the theater.

This weekend art show and sale is free and open to the public. This year’s annual event will feature new art work created by six Voorhees family members along with two guest artists. The event will again be featured in a family home, this year at Susan Voorhees’ house. Meet this extraordinary family of artists known throughout North Carolina and the Southeast.

The arts legacy began with Edwin Voorhees, (1919-1999) and Mildred Voorhees (1924-2007) both accomplished painters and well known throughout NC for their artwork. The first Voorhees Family Art Show was held in the family home in Morehead City in 1998. Edwin passed away the next year but the Voorhees Family Art Show continued in Morehead for several years. With Mildred’s move to Asheville the show followed with it being hosted in one of several Voorhees family homes in North Asheville ever since. The Voorhees Family was recently recognized with an exhibition “Nature & Nurture: The Voorhees Family Artistic Legacy” at the NC Arboretum.
This year’s show celebrates the 25th show for the Voorhees Family and continues the legacy begun by Edwin Voorhees back in 1998. Three of Edwin and Mildred’s six children and two daughters-in-law, and David’s son-in-law will be showing their work at this event: Susan Voorhees, oil and pastel paintings; Jane Voorhees, watercolors, prints, cards and calendars; David Voorhees, wood-fired stoneware and porcelain pottery; David’s wife, Molly Sharp Voorhees, sterling silver and gold jewelry. David’s son-in-law, James Becker with resin art creations; and Amy Cusick Voorhees (son Chad’s wife), oil paintings. Stop by to enjoy a meal and watch the premiere screening of the documentary “Stewards of Sky Island” with producer Caleb Owolabi! A portion of proceeds from the weekend sales will be donated to Southern Appalachian Highlands Conservancy.
Earlier this year, Caleb and his crew joined SAHC’s Roan Stewardship team in the Highlands of Roan to learn about biodiversity in these globally important ecosystems, and how overuse in some areas is jeopardizing this special place. Education can help reduce recreational use impacts in fragile ecosystems. Explore the world of these unique ‘sky islands’ and be part of the effort to “Enjoy Don’t Destroy.”
This 45-minute documentary will show on repeat throughout the weekend fundraiser, with members of the production team visiting intermittently and additional info about SAHC available.

The drawing will take place on Tuesday, November 15, 2022 at 3:00pm EDT. All mail, phone, and internet orders must be received by 11:59pm EDT on Monday, November 14, 2022.
TICKETS
The cost to purchase a single entry (“Ticket”) for the Raffle is $125 (U.S. Funds only) and is not tax deductible.
DETAILS
- By entering this raffle, entrants accept and agree to be bound by all the rules, limitations and restrictions set forth here and that their names and/or likenesses may be disclosed to and used by the news media and may otherwise be used by BMC for publicity purposes.
- The winner may choose a new 2022 Volvo, Subaru, or Hyundai prize vehicle from Hunter Automotive Group of Fletcher, NC with an MSRP up to $50,000.
- Vehicle choice will be subject to the current available inventory of the dealer. BMC reserves the right to substitute a Volvo, Subaru, or Hyundai model of equal value.
- The winner is responsible for all taxes, delivery costs, dealer fees, and any options he or she may choose above the vehicle’s manufacturer’s suggested retail price (MSRP) greater than $50,000.
- The gross winnings of the raffle will be reported to the federal and state tax authorities at the MSRP and the winner is responsible for income tax withholding prior to taking title to the prize.
- Individuals may purchase as many tickets as they wish; however, only 1,500 tickets will be sold.
- Participants must be 18 years old or older.
- BMC employees, faculty, and students 18 or older are eligible to participate.
- Winnings are not redeemable for cash.
- If a minimum of 600 tickets is not sold, all ticket holders will receive a full refund and the raffle will not occur.
- BMC does not make or provide any representation, guarantee or warranty, expressed or implied, in connection with the car and accepts no liability or responsibility regarding the construction or condition of the car.
WINNINGS
Once the winner has selected a prize vehicle, the Dealer will notify BMC of the award vehicle’s MSRP. BMC will calculate the required federal income taxes due. The raffle winner is responsible for remitting the funds to BMC for the federal income tax. Brevard Music Center is required by law to report the base MSRP of the vehicle the winner chooses as gaming income to federal and state authorities and to withhold and deposit federal income taxes equal to 25% of the MSRP less the wager (raffle ticket). The winner’s payment of the federal taxes to BMC will be deposited with the US Federal Treasury and the winner will receive credit for the taxes remitted. In order for the dealer to release the winner’s vehicle, the winner will need to provide the following to BMC:
- A completed form W-9.
- Payment to BMC of the appropriate amount of federal tax withholding in cash or certified check.
Once both of these are received, BMC will authorize the dealer to release the vehicle. The winner will receive a Form W-2G by January 31, 2023 to use in preparing their 2022 income tax return.

This weekend art show and sale is free and open to the public. This year’s annual event will feature new art work created by six Voorhees family members along with two guest artists. The event will again be featured in a family home, this year at Susan Voorhees’ house. Meet this extraordinary family of artists known throughout North Carolina and the Southeast.

The arts legacy began with Edwin Voorhees, (1919-1999) and Mildred Voorhees (1924-2007) both accomplished painters and well known throughout NC for their artwork. The first Voorhees Family Art Show was held in the family home in Morehead City in 1998. Edwin passed away the next year but the Voorhees Family Art Show continued in Morehead for several years. With Mildred’s move to Asheville the show followed with it being hosted in one of several Voorhees family homes in North Asheville ever since. The Voorhees Family was recently recognized with an exhibition “Nature & Nurture: The Voorhees Family Artistic Legacy” at the NC Arboretum.
This year’s show celebrates the 25th show for the Voorhees Family and continues the legacy begun by Edwin Voorhees back in 1998. Three of Edwin and Mildred’s six children and two daughters-in-law, and David’s son-in-law will be showing their work at this event: Susan Voorhees, oil and pastel paintings; Jane Voorhees, watercolors, prints, cards and calendars; David Voorhees, wood-fired stoneware and porcelain pottery; David’s wife, Molly Sharp Voorhees, sterling silver and gold jewelry. David’s son-in-law, James Becker with resin art creations; and Amy Cusick Voorhees (son Chad’s wife), oil paintings. The intimate gathering will feature local singers/songwriters David Childers, Carson Sloan, Josh Dunkin and Steve DuRose as they share their stories and songs through their music. The songwriters will take turns telling the stories behind their songs and then performing them for the audience.
As part of the event, Hendersonville Theatre and B2 Realty sponsored the Future Master Songwriters Competition for young aspiring songwriters in Henderson County 18-years-old and under. The winner of the competition is Emma Grace Haag of Hendersonville. Haag is the daughter of Katie Camenzind and Ian Haag, and a 3rd grader at Glenn C. Marlow Elementary. She will perform her song during the Master Songwriters in Concert accompanied by Childers, Sloan, Dunkin and DuRose.
Singer-songwriter David Childers is from Mount Holly, NC. Childers fell in love with folk music as a teen, and his tastes run from jazz and opera. Before becoming a professional musician, he was a lawyer. Childers’ album, Run Skeleton Run, has made him a favorite of fans and fellow musicians, including the Avett Brothers. Childers has played the syndicated World Café and Mountain Stage radio shows, Merlefest’s mainstage, and toured in Europe.
(Judie) Carson Sloan is part of the contemporary folk trio “Rosabelle” and is a regular at open microphone nights in Hendersonville. Her song “Real Live Winner” was included on The Pearls’ first album in 1994. Carson writes honest, sometimes irreverent songs from a woman’s point of view without much sentimentality.
Josh Dunkin started writing songs, poems, and plays in high school. In college, Dunkin won several playwriting awards and started working with his writing partner, Mike Barton. After college, the duo formed a successful sketch comedy show and group called Nashville: The Band. They founded Laughingstock: The Chicago Comedy Music Festival and worked hard to widen the appeal of comedy music. Over the years, Dunkin’s songs kept a comedic sensibility but focused more on the stories. Since moving to Hendersonville in 2015, Dunkin has expanded his subject matter to include love songs about family and coffee, murder ballads about O.J. Simpson and JonBenet Ramsey, and many other subjects.
Steve DuRose is an American songwriter living in Hendersonville. He is often compared to songwriters such as John Prine and Townes Van Zandt due to his poetic and often melancholy lyrics and traditionally inspired melodies. While mainly known for his lyric writing, he has also composed instrumental works which are incorporated into art installations in museums in both California and New Mexico
The Asheville Art Museum is entering a new chapter. When organizations are healthy and strong, they can look to the future. Therefore, the Museum is focusing on what steps it should take to better serve our community. One recent stride was the addition of an Online Collection database to our website. Since its launch in October, more than 1,500 searchable objects have been digitized and uploaded out of our growing Collection of 7,500-plus artworks. The goal is to enable interested patrons, scholars, curators, artists, and educators worldwide to learn about the Museum’s holdings, whether they are on view or not, and to make the Collection accessible to more of the general community from the comfort of their homes. We know virtual learning is here to stay, and families and students of all ages can use the database for exploration and learning from anywhere with an internet connection! Christopher Whitten, associate registrar for the Museum, speaks more about the project:
“I think there’s this constant wonder among patrons about what is in the vault or behind doors. The online database allows us to share a significant portion of the Collection on a global scale. Often, there are inquiries by researchers into which artists we have. Others ask about potential gifting of more artworks by a current artist, or even by a new artist that would be a good fit within the Collection. The Online Collection gives a new, deeper Museum experience to visitors. With three-dimension artworks, we’re able to feature more than one view, allowing visitors to see the objects from multiple angles.
“For many of the artists, we’ve included updated biographies, including where they were educated and/or taught. Keywords help visitors find artworks associated with a certain subject. For example, when one types in the word dog, it will pull artworks not only with the word in their titles, but also ones in which the descriptive field mentions the word dog.
“Another great thing about clicking on an object record is getting to know its dimensions—information that’s not included on museum labels. Families and donors can search and find out what items were gifted to the Museum, and by whom. Our goal is to have the entire Collection accessible online soon. We’ll be adding large groups of objects every quarter, with the next round starting in January.”
