Asheville Marathon + Half

The Asheville Marathon & Half run through the best parts of the City of Asheville, North Carolina. Including downtown city streets, the River Arts District, along the French Broad River, and through the parks for this city-style, point-to-point race. These fast races are a dream come true for runners looking to get a personal best in the mountains of Western North Carolina. The majority of the miles are downhill from downtown and ‘flat’ running along the river on the greenway and through the city parks. Endurance runners will have an opportunity to ‘break in’ the brand new section of the newly completed greenway section of the French Broad River Greenway on Riverside Drive and Lyman Street. Runners are on mostly paved surfaces throughout the entire event with a few dirt sections within the French Broad River Park.

We are thrilled to offer the 2023 Appalachian Trilogy! Run 3 out of 4 of these Half Marathons in 2023 and receive a unique commemorative medal! Asheville Half Marathon (March 18),  Jump off Rock Half Marathon (May 13), RAD Half Marathon (June 11) and Black Bear Half Marathon (October 8), and receive a gorgeous gold commemorative,  Appalachian Trilogy medal. We will also have some super cool swag to go along with this new challenge to keep you motivated to train all year long!

How do I sign up? Register for three of the above half marathons and you are automatically entered into the Trilogy! Must sign up for three events by July 9, 2023 in order to be eligible.

Hood Huggers Tour: Eagle Street Downtown, Featuring The Block

Join this neighborhood walking tour to learn about the rich history of The Block as well as Sherrill Roland’s personal experiences and his family’s legacy in Asheville, in support of the special exhibition Sherrill Roland: Sugar, Water, Lemon Squeeze.

(This tour precedes Sherrrill Roland’s In Conversation at 2pm)

Meet at the Museum’s front plaza by the Reflections on Unity sculpture to attend. Explore East End Valley Street in downtown Asheville—home to shops and galleries featuring merchandise and art by African American artisans and artists. Learn about the YMI Cultural Center, the Stephens Lee Community Center, The Block, and significant African American architecture.

2023 UNC Asheville Annual Pi(e) Run

In honor of Pi Day, UNC Asheville is hosting a fun-run on March 19th starting at 3:14 pm. Run or walk (or skip or trot) the 3.14-mile distance, which celebrates Pi’s value. The event is open to the public and has a registration fee of $10 for students and $20 for all other participants. We will have delicious Pi(e) at the finish line!

Proceeds benefit the Asheville Initiative for Math at UNC Asheville, including the Marvelous Math Club. Marvelous Math Club uses math as a catalyst to build leadership skills, create community and provide a space where elementary school students can grow academically and socially.

CC5k Trainings with YMCA

With special thanks to our training sponsor, YMCA of Western North Carolina, the Chamber is offering personal training opportunities with YMCA’s trainer Suzanne Ion.  Meet in the Chamber parking lot for a brief warm-up then head out with the group in a session designed to move you from the couch to the race course!

Sessions are every Tuesday, March 21 thru April 25th. The last session will be a preview run/walk of the actual Chamber Challenge 5k course beginning at the Chamber, winding through historic Montford and finishing in the parking lot once again.

These training sessions are open to anyone — whether you’ve registered to participate in the event or not!  But in case you DO want to join in, go here to see more details, more training tips, and to register:  www.chamberchallenge.org

We recommend you bring your own water bottle. The doors to the Visitor Center will be open 5:00-5:30 on training days so you can come in to get water, use the restroom, etc.
