Sandman’s Karaoke and Dance Show
Sep 27 @ 7:00 pm – 10:00 pm
Triskelion Brewing Company

Did you know that the first karaoke machine was invented by Japanese musician Daisuke Inoue in Kobe, Japan, in 1971?

It’s true… Daisuke Inoue sparked a tsunami of sound that has spread all over Japan, and from there, eventually, to the United States…

And that wave just rolled over Triskelion! We’ve gotten together with “Sandman” Sandy McCosh to set up a Karaoke night on Thursday nights here at Triskelion.

We’ll have the main stage all lit up and you can climb up there and sing your heart out! Belt out your favorite songs and show everybody how good a singer you really are (or are not).

It’s time to be bold people… time to show off your mad singing skillz!

kar·a·o·ke – kerēˈōkē, noun

A form of entertainment in which people take turns singing popular songs into a microphone over prerecorded backing tracks.

Starts next week! Two days after Celtic Rock Taco Night!

So… if you had plans for Thursday, it’s time to cancel them and make some excuses… cause… it’s time people…

It’s time to live out that rock fantasy… that dream… of standing on the stage and singing Livin’ on a Prayer (cause you know you can do it better than Jon Bon Jovi)

It’s time to shine people.

See you on the stage.

“I am a sucker for music that defies easy description. I am also a sucker for music that gets me moving. On its latest album I Love You Madly, Black Masala hits both of those targets. . . If you’re a fan of energetic, uptempo music, this album is definitely for you.”
– Examiner.com

Brassy Washington DC-based outfit, Black Masala, is part of the new generation of go-anywhere brass bands. You can hear this sound all over the world now – from New Orleans (Hot 8) to Belgrade (Boban & Marko Markovic), Paris (Fanfarai) to Cotonou (Gangbe Brass Band), and right here on the east coast area as well (Red Baraat & No BS! Brass). A major party alert for this band – Black Masala puts on an amazing, high-energy live show!

In 2015 Black Masala released their second studio album, I Love You Madly as well 3 volumes of remixes featuring DJ’s from all around the world. I Love You Madly was well received and reached #2 on the CMJ World Chart and #4 on Canada’s national Earshot radio chart.

On their second album it is clear that Black Masala are having a lot of fun incorporating various musical influences into their go-anywhere Brass sound. Ranging from Gypsy punk, Balkan brass and New Orleans funk, to Bhangra and bounce, this is an album for the multicultural music listener. The heavy horns and danceable rhythms tie “I Love You Madly” together and create an album that can be played for a wide range of audiences.

Whether they are performing live shows or releasing new music, Black Masala push the boundaries between genres and explore new musical frontiers. This unorthodox and highly creative approach is what makes the shows so much fun with a wild and unpredictable vibe for the audience.

“Black Masala is a first rate band who are among the growing numbers of groups who make fun, energetic world beat mash-ups that show a good deal of imagination.”
— The Graham Album Review

“If you haven’t seen them yet, DC’s Black Masala is one of the most exciting live acts anywhere in the USA right now. Playing a unique mix of punk rock, Balkan brass, Indian bhangra and New Orleans funk, this horn-driven (trumpet, trombone and sousaphone) septet is a guaranteed party-starter. . . This is a regional band that deserves to go national and international, one of the most exciting projects in our part of the world these days.”
– Bill Lupoletti, WRIR Global A Go-Go

“Black Masala is a D.C. outfit that has found success riding off of its own inventiveness. Experimenting with a flirtatious combination of gypsy punkiness and brass, the band can expertly churn an audience of awkward head-bobbers into a livened stew of aspirant dancers. Their big-band sound seems able to adapt to any venue; readily filling out the cavernous space of the 9:30 while simultaneously fitting to match the intimacy of Tropicalia. For them, no groove is off limits.”
– WRGW Music Blog

“Sure, having an album that can stand the test of time is important, but so is exhibiting that piece of work onstage. Black Masala is your gypsy carnival circus of music that knows no limits of genre. You are rocking out, grooving like you would to funk music, yet you feel like you may be at some ska gypsy punk show, and you become overwhelmed with their uncanny stage presence. Their music must be experienced in person to fully understand this band and that is what makes them so much fun. You won’t be served soft underhand pitches of predictable songs and setlist structure. Instead, you’ll probably find a Sousaphone standing next to you in the crowd while Kristen Long reaches deep into your soul with her powerful vocals.”
– Live Music Daily

“D.C.’s rich history of producing great funk and soul while embracing our funkin’ future, which, if Black Masala is any indication, it looks pretty damn good.”
-Zeke Leeds – Brightest Young Things

Chromeo plus Steven A. Clark
Sep 27 @ 9:00 pm – Sep 28 @ 1:00 am
The Orange Peel

Chromeo
plus Steven A. Clark
Show : 9pm
Doors : 8pm
$32 – $119
Ages 18+

Tickets & Info: www.theorangepeel.net/event/chromeo/

World leaders, powerful CEOs, and assorted other fat cats could learn myriad lessons from Chromeo, but the number one tip that Dave 1 and P-Thugg have is this: Know thyself, know thy vibe, and stay thy course. The rest of the population will catch up. What this means is that Chromeo is really good at being Chromeo. The mission, the package, the vision—it’s been a straight shot of pure intentionality from the jump. These Chromeo dudes? They have the whole being-these-Chromeo-dudes thing totally wired.

And with the benefit of blessed hindsight, we can all see now that Chromeo stuck to it with the natural doggedness of the soulful heirs that they are. Funk a game plan—these guys had a ten-year battle strategy. When they released their first album in 2004, Rick James was still the Antichrist to all but the enlightened. Fast forward to today, and ‘80s funk—which makes up a major part of Chromeo’s DNA—is all over the charts.

So it’s the perfect time for a fresh dose of the real stuff and—lo and behold—Pee (still looking a smooth criminal in a Coogi) and Dave (ever the Semitic/Gallic heartthrob in tight pants) are back. We are officially on the cusp of the Canadian funk lords’ fourth album’s release. It’s called White Women and it’s a doozy. As a work of cultural theory, it posits that we are living in a post-nostalgia age. All previous genres and styles of music now coexist within a singularity of moves and gestures. (Ouch, sorry, got possessed by a cultural studies prof. for a second there… but the foregoing is true of Chromeo, just FYI.) More importantly, as pure entertainment, White Women perpetuates and elevates Chromeo’s existing blueprint: sexy funk, ass-targeting beats, melodic honey, and smart lyrics about the foibles of contemporary love.

The Artisanals w/ The High Divers (Duo) at The Salvage Station
Sep 27 @ 9:00 pm – 11:59 pm
Salvage Station

The Artisanals:
“Keep a look out for these guys as they tour the country; they may just become a household name” – Huffington Post

Who are The Artisanals? :: WATCH THIS :: https://youtu.be/Cj95hb8rjfU

Watch “Drag” music video premiere on Billboard here: https://www.billboard.com/articles/columns/rock/8468109/artisanals-band-drag-video-interview

Somewhere on a dusty road or a well traveled interstate, right at this very moment, a rock n’ roll band is pounding the rock. They’re probably wearing the same clothes they had on yesterday, and reminiscing about last night’s gig. Inspired by a guitar lick that cuts to the bone or a melody that lingers on refrain, this band is following a path forged by countless other musicians who’ve lived and died in dive bars or ‘made it’ with their posters taped to bedroom walls. What makes this band of brothers any different? This band is The Artisanals.

Johnny Delaware grew up in a small South Dakota town surrounded by cornfields and dirt roads. For 19 years, he lived in a wide-eyed perspective baptized in the setting of a John Mellencamp song. In order to personally evolve and carry out his musical destiny, Delaware knew that the heartland wind would have to blow him around the country. Eventually, Delaware would move to Charleston, SC and team up with guitarist Clay Houle, drummer Josh Hoover, and bassist Eric Mixon to form The Artisanals in late 2016. Within a year of forming, The Artisanals dropped their four-track debut EP, Literally, Anywhere, and promptly received critical acclaim from Huffington Post, Paste Magazine, Daytrotter, PopMatters.

Now, The Artisanals are set to drop their debut self-titled full length album. Produced by Wolfgang Zimmerman and set to release on AWAL on September 21, 2018, The Artisanals, is the first ever record to come out of the Magic Barn – an Iowa studio-converted-barn that features the Neve console and gear from NYC’s now defunct Magic Shop Studio which recorded David Bowie’s last two albums, Arcade Fire’s The Suburbs, and can be seen on Dave Grohl’s Sonic Highways.

With sonic influences ranging from the heartland rock of Bruce Springsteen (“Angel 42”), and neo-psychedelia anthems of My Morning Jacket (“Pound The Rock”), to the dream-pop work of The Cars and The War On Drugs (“Drag”), The Artisanals 10-track LP showcases Delaware and Houle’s knack for writing hooks as well as their ear for quality production. The album utilizes everything from a gong, organ, piano, sitar, french horn, trombone, and koto, to a string section sourced from the nearby University of Iowa. Mastered by Howie Weinberg, (Spoon, Ryan Adams, Nirvana), there’s no filler on The Artisanals. From start to finish, this record is a straight banger.

The Artisanals’ debut LP will come out fall of 2018, but in the meantime, check out their EP of tracks on Spotify: https://spoti.fi/2rhBNcR

The High Divers (Duo):
The rollicking indie rock outfit, The High Divers, will be paring down into the husband/wife duo of Luke and Mary Alice Mitchell. Skeletal outlines of their rock n roll anthems will give listeners the opportunity to hear the songs as they began, with two voices, an acoustic guitar, and some keyboards. These shows will be most rewarding to those that pay close attention to lyrics, something The High Divers have always prided themselves on. After touring the U.S. extensively for years as a full band, these duo shows will be a refreshing change in pace, as well as a chance to prove that a good song can travel in any configuration.

Eliada’s Annual Corn Maze
Sep 27 @ 9:29 pm

This year, Eliada will maintain some beloved attractions including the tractor ride, which now drives all the way around the Corn Maze, jumping pillow, corn kernel sand box, spider web climber, tube slides, and corn cannons.

Eliada is pleased to announce that the corn planted in the field is Non-GMO, and that Eliada used all natural fertilizers to help the corn grow.
The Corn Maze raises $100,000 for the agency every year, and we have come to rely on this event to support our programs,” says Davis-Bryant. “I never thought I’d have a job in which I relied on a field of corn growing! Changing up how we planted the corn field meant a lot to us, but was also a risk. I am proud of the agency for engaging in this kind of risk taking. The corn has grown beautifully, and we can be proud of the ways we have improved the event for the long-term sustainability of our land.
This year, Eliada is also adding beer and cider sales to the makeup of the event.

This option, available to guests only on weekends (Friday evenings, Saturdays and Sunday afternoons), will help the agency increase revenue to support the growing needs children and youth face in our community. Eliada is excited to work with local and national partners to provide an array of beer and cider options!

Ott has been messing about with sound boxes every day for as long as he can remember. Having spent the ‘90s flitting between his day-job as a freelance studio engineer and long weekends under the stars at psychedelic trance parties, the obvious next step, as the millennium turned, was to create music of his own from the jumble of sounds which filled his head.

After teaming up with Twisted Records, 2002 saw the release of the acclaimed ‘Hallucinogen In Dub’ album, followed in short order by his first solo effort, ‘Blumenkraft’ in 2003. 2008 saw the release of ‘Skylon’ and in 2011 the album ‘Mir’ was born. A pattern has formed: every four years or so an album coalesces from the chaos, heads out into the world and takes on a life of its own. ‘Fairchild’ was released in 2015, and fall 2018 will see the release of his heavily anticipated fifth studio album.

Testimonials:

“The Sundara Yoga Therapy Trauma-Informed Yoga Intensive went beyond my expectations going in. Being a 5 year veteran of teaching to at-risk youth and adult populations, I was unsure how much this training could offer me. I was so impressed with the abundant amount of information presented and the ever-evolving approach Genevieve takes with this material. Genevieve brings a jaw-dropping amount of experience and knowledge to the table. Furthermore, she brings this level of availability, generosity and approachability I rarely see in this type of training experience. Well worth it!!”
