We love contra dance, and nobody gets paid for making the dances happen. We all just pitch in. You can too. Here’s how it works:
- Help us OPEN or CLOSE, and dance for free all night long! It only takes 30 minutes to an hour.
- Help us at the DOOR, and dance for free half the night AND another whole night!
ALSO – if you want to volunteer on a regular basis, e.g. work the early door every 3rd Thursday, tell us and we’ll set that up!

Volunteer Opportunities

Early Door Person (2 people needed): Arrive by 7:30 check, in with Early Host, work when needed to take money at the door. Alternate with your other door people and Early host to switch off who sits and who dances. Goes ’til 9:00pm.
Closers (3 people needed): Job time: 10 minutes. Break down the hall, put away chairs, tables, sweep the floors, empty and take out trash. Check in with the Late Host to make sure everything is done
Late Host: Arrive by 9:30, check-in with Early Host, the pay-out form should be filled out. Dancers should pay full price until first contra after the waltz break. Count the money, do the payout, supervise breakdown and close the hall.

We’re putting our build crew back together and we’d love to have you join us. Every 2 weeks, we’ll meet at 9 am for hands-on set construction! Whether your talents are building, painting, or you just want to learn, come out and join us every other Saturday for some creative fun. Tools and work gloves are helpful but not required

- Receive instructions and gear, and head out as a group to pick up trash.
- Return gear to Silver-Line Park at 1:00 pm and enjoy volunteer rewards!
Need to know
Dress in comfortable walking shoes and clothes. Meet at Silver-Link parking lot at 12:00 pm. After signing in, volunteers will receive their cleanup gear. We’ll review safety and instructions upon arrival. Return your gear to the Silver-Line parking lot at 1:00 pm and enjoy volunteer rewards!

Start the holiday season by making our Leicester community cleaner and brighter! Gloves, grabbers, & safety vests provided by Asheville GreenWorks.
Who should attend: Everyone who loves Leicester is invited to this event.
Once the Times Square ball drops, ringing in 2024, be ready for a fast-paced 9½ weeks in preparation for your Annual Precinct Meeting in February and the Primary Election on Tues., March 5th.
2024 is an Election Year. If you want to accomplish your goals, engage your volunteers, and get voters to the polls in November, create a well-organized plan of action now. Don’t wait until January. Start now to plan, design, and map your 2024 year.
Led by professional trainer Barrie Barton, this workshop leads you through Map Your Year, a step-by-step approach to plan the year ahead. To receive the greatest benefit from this 1.5-hr. workshop, we encourage all 3 officers and key volunteers from your precinct to attend. By the end of this workshop, your precinct team will leave with goals, strategies and actions to make 2024 a successful year.
Who should attend: All precinct officers and key volunteers
Join Erika McClung, PMHNP and nature therapist, for movement on the land at our 16-acre sanctuary.
Shake, jump, wiggle, dance, and play to good music in good company. Similar in format to ecstatic dance, we celebrate our intentions and let the music and emotions move through our bodies in whatever way feels best to us, without judgement or expectation. Come see how healing movement can be!

BRING YOUR LAPTOP (if you have one) and your cell phone, and we’ll show you how to make calls to reach people who tend to vote for Democrats, but not often enough! Whether you are an experienced, reluctant, or new and curious phone banker, this training will prepare you for making calls at our headquarters, and later from the comfort of your own home.
Snacks, drinks, and lots of camaraderie on hand!
Who should attend: Democrats or left-leaning unaffiliated voters who are willing to make phone calls to make a difference in 2024.

We’re working on two new exciting youth initiatives:1. Recent reports indicate Buncombe County has over 750 homeless students, and the numbers continue to rise (read the information here). Literacy Together will work with homeless 9th-12th graders who need a reading and writing tutor. Your 1:1 tutoring support can help students stay in school, graduate, and build a stable and healthy future for themselves.
2. Literacy Together will serve 5th-8th graders who need a reading/writing or math tutor. Tutoring will take place on-site at one or more schools in the Enka/Candler area.You can learn more about these projects here. The 23nd Annual Asheville Turkey Trot 5K and Gobble Wobble 1 Mile Fun Run presented by Jus’ Running is Thanksgiving Day- Thursday, November 23, 2023. Portions of the proceeds will be donated to MANNA Food Bank. Early packet pickup will be Wednesday November 22 at “The Wedge At Foundation Cloud Room 5 Foundy St Asheville NC from 3:00 pm until 6 pm. There will be late registration there also. Keep in mind shirts aren’t guaranteed during late registration. Race day packet pick up will be at Pack Square Park from 7am until 8:30am. The race starts on Woodfin St in front of the Downtown YMCA and finishes at Pack Square Park. Please note, due to restrictions NO DOGS/ PETS are allowed. Please don’t bring them. The course is not completely closed so this is for safety purposes. Race timing will be provided by Right on Time Productions.
