Elementary After-School Volunteer Creative Peacemakers
Educator Night Out
Franklin School of Innovation Community Info Session
We are seeking volunteers to assist us in our small after school program for children in West Asheville in low-income housing. We provide a safe and nourishing environment, healthy snacks, and creative activities. Our program currently meets during the school year on most Tuesday and Thursday afternoons from 3:00-5:00pm. You may volunteer for one or two days a week.
Volunteer Responsibilities:
- Assist with serving snacks
- Interact with children during activity time
- Supervise games and outdoor free time
- For people with background in education, there is also an opportunity to assist with curriculum development and program planning and administration
Requirements:
- Background check
- Orientation booklets will be provided
- Masks are required if unvaccinated
Join us to unwind, socialize, and explore the Museum. Teachers of all grade levels and subject areas are invited to view the Museum’s current exhibitions, attend gallery talks, enjoy live music, create art in the studio, and learn more about the Asheville Art Museum’s resources for teachers.
Snacks and non-alcoholic beverages will be provided. The rooftop Perspective Café will be open until 9pm, where you may purchase a variety of sandwiches, local snacks, and beverages, including Poppy’s Popcorn, French Broad Chocolates, Asheville beers, organic coffee, wine, and cocktails.

It is open enrollment until March 31st, and parents are deciding educational options for their children. Come join us for a community information session in the Auditorium of the Dr. Wesley Grant Sr. Center. Enjoy snacks, fun activities and learn about The Franklin School of Innovation!
We are a public tuition-free charter school that provides grades 5-12 and serves the greater Asheville area.

Summer Day Camp is a great option for kids ages 9-17 with any skill level to learn and practice on the iconic rivers and lakes of Western North Carolina. Paddlers from beginner to advanced will receive high-quality instruction from our elite team while having fun and making friends.
After six years of hard work, the dream of using The Learning Garden as a hub for public gardening education is finally a reality. The Learning Garden, located at the Extension Office, 49 Mt. Carmel Road, is offering the public the opportunity to Visit and Learn in the garden on selected 2nd and 4th Thursdays, February – October. The Thursday in-person programs will consist of five garden-specific series. Visitors can walk around before or after the program and soak in our lovely gardens. Our gardens will open at 9:00 a.m. and all the demonstration programs run between 10-11:30 a.m. To ensure a good learning experience, attendance will be limited and registration will be required.

MALEVO – the “South American Sensation” – is a thrilling all-male group specializing in Malambo, a traditional Argentine folk dance of great virility and dexterity. The troupe takes the form beyond its limits with a modern, avant-garde and transgressive approach, while still staying true to the cultural foundations of this traditional gaucho artform. Bringing live music and virtuosic dancing to the contemporary stage, this performance is exhilarating, engaging and perfect for the entire family.
MALEVO has been named the “Cultural Ambassador to the National Identity of Argentina,” and is on the tail of numerous successes including events and performances in Las Vegas, New York, Dubai, Paris, Cairo, St. Petersburg and Montreal. The America’s Got Talent semi-finalists have performed alongside Latin pop-star Ricky Martin, Cirque du Soleil, and had a year-long performance season at Universal Studios Osaka, Japan. Now, MALEVO is excited to present a new touring performance created for theaters and festivals.

| The Growing Minds Team will be offering free, virtual trainings for teachers, caregivers, parents, and anyone interested in providing farm to school activities with kids. An entire group can register or you can sign up as an individual. We will alternate between School Garden Trainings and Farm to Preschool Trainings. See below for the descriptions, dates, and times. Trainings are held via Zoom.

Building Community One Tune at a TimePacolet Junior Appalachian Musicians (PacJAM) provides an opportunity for area youth and adults to experience community through the joy of participating in traditional music.
PacJAM offers sessions each fall and winter/spring semester, as well as an intensive day camp one week each summer for youth.
Students of all skill levels ages 6-late teens and adults are invited to join us for instruction in traditional music. Click here to learn more.
Our winter program will run every Wednesday from January 18 – March 22 from 4:30 PM to 6:00 PM for Beginner & Intermediate students, & 4:00 PM to 6:00 PM for advanced students.

The Coalition for a Bird-Friendly Asheville, in partnership with the Blue Ridge Audubon Chapter and CASE Consultants International, invites you to learn about bird-friendly community practices that benefit both migratory birds and their human communities.
How can we build climate resilient communities that support and enhance biodiversity?
Bird-friendly community practices help reduce energy use and costs, increase wildlife habitat, and mitigate the effects that climate change has had on our feather friends’ flyways. Representatives from a variety of public, private, and non-profit sectors will describe actions we can take to protect migratory birds from detrimental effects of light pollution, non-native landscapes, glass surfaces and other human built-environmental threats, while also benefiting our communities. These actions, at broad, multifaceted scales, help Asheville lead the way in building climate resilient, bird-friendly cities.

Following the presentations, a panel of experts convene to answer questions from the audience. A reception with light refreshments follows. Vendors are on hand to present materials on glass and window treatment products!
