That is why the nationally recognized WNC beer scene is collaborating again, and raising the stakes, to bring awareness to the issue of hunger in Western North Carolina. Over twenty local breweries are joining forces to help support MANNA FoodBank’s mission to end hunger for thousands of families across WNC through the 2nd annual Hops for Hunger campaign, July 1st – 31st.
Hops for Hunger is made possible through support from Asheville Ale Trail, and MANNA’s annual sponsors: Preserve Communities, Harrah’s Cherokee Casino Resort, Anurja Interactive, The Cantina at Historic Biltmore Village, Mast General Store, and Lamar Advertising.
Every 2nd Wednesday of each month through the end of summer, Fhiit Life (Biltmore Village) will be hosting Barre to Bar with Hillman Beer!
Join for a barre class at 6pm at the studio, then head over to Hillman Beer for a burger and a brew right after! This barre class will be discounted to $10, and you will receive a cold brew, tasty burger, and a side at Hillmans for only $12!
Note: the 6pm class is the $10 discounted barre class.

Join Burial Beer for their Moonlit Art Markets -a celebration of all of the local talent our community has to offer. Artists of all mediums will be showcasing their crafts for purchase from 8-11pm every second Wednesday from May-October.

The Punch Brothers, an acoustic quintet, will perform at Pisgah Brewing on July 13th. Tickets and more information can be found here.
The band is comprised of mandolinist Chris Thile, guitarist Chris Eldridge, bassist Paul Kowert, banjoist Noam Pikelny and violinist Gabe Witcher. Says the Washington Post, “With enthusiasm and experimentation, Punch Brothers take bluegrass to its next evolutionary stage, drawing equal inspiration from the brain and the heart.” Their latest album, the T Bone Burnett-produced The Phosphorescent Blues (released in 2015 on Nonesuch Records), addresses the power and the pitfalls of our super-connected world with straight-up poignancy and subversive humor.
Punch Brothers formed in 2006. Its first Nonesuch record, Punch, was released in 2008 and combined elements of the band’s many musical interests. In 2009, they began a residency at NYC’s intimate club, The Living Room, trying out new songs and ultimately spawning the Grammy-nominated Antifogmatic (2010). In 2012, the band released Who’s Feeling Young Now?, which Q praised for its ‘astonishing, envelope-pushing vision’, while Rolling Stone said, ‘The acoustic framework dazzles – wild virtuosity used for more than just virtuosity.’
Recently, Chris Thile took over hosting duties of Live from Here (formerly A Prairie Home Companion) in 2016 and released Thanks for Listening in late 2017 – a collection of songs written for Chris’ popular radio show. Chris Eldridge partnered with Julian Lage for the Grammy-nominated Mount Royal and Noam released his fourth solo album, the Grammy-nominated Universal Favorite. Both Mount Royal and Universal Favorite were produced by Gabe Witcher, who was also behind Sara Watkins’ latest, Young In All The Wrong Ways. Paul Kowert has been recording and touring with the Dave Rawlings Machine while developing his latest project Hawktail, Paul’s band with Jordan Tice, Brittney Haas and Dominick Leslie.

WNCAP (Western North Carolina AIDS Project) Dedicated to preventing new cases of HIV/AIDS and promoting self-sufficiency in people living with HIV. WNCAP provides HIV-related client support, prevention, education and advocacy activities guided by the belief that all people are entitled to equal access to health care and disease prevention.
WNCAP needs volunteers for the 2nd & 4th Saturday morning Food Box Delivery: 10am-noon. Ride with another team member and deliver pre-packed boxes of food to home-bound, food insecure families living in the Asheville/ Buncombe area. Most people know that our bodies need fat for insulation, energy, and protection, but our cultural relationship with this macronutrient has been tenuous at best for over fifty years. Even cooks who have embraced putting natural fats back into their foods are often still confused about sources, uses, and safety. “Fat is making a comeback,” says Asheville-based food writer and chef Meredith Leigh, “but we still have a long way to go.” Leigh serves as Education and Outreach Coordinator at Living Web Farms, where she will teach a class all about fat as an essential element of cooking, this coming July 17 th at 6pm at the farm in Mills River. Leigh shares that there are still people who regard fat as a food to fear, and then there are people who have allowed fat back into their cooking, on a limited level. “It’s not uncommon to run into cooks who are no longer afraid, but are only using two types of fat in their kitchen, because someone told them that was the only way to eat.” It turns out, there’s a lot more to the story about fat, and a host of other reasons to let our relationship with it mature and deepen.

demonstration site for effective organic farming in western NC. Living Web conducts
year-round education in farming, homesteading, cooking, and sustainable living. All

On Friday, July 20th, the Asheville Comedy Community comes together to raise funds for the family of the late local comedian Michael Roach. The benefit will feature Asheville’s best comedians with shows at 7:00PM and 9:30PM
