Breaking the Stereotype: Positive Basket Muzzle Training
Saturday, April 20th, 2019 from 11:30am-12:30pm
Location: Animal Hospital of North Asheville Education Room
Presented by Tristan Rehner-Fleurant, MS, CPDT-KA, CBCC-KA, CBATI of Pet Behavior Aid
People Only. No Registration required. No fee to attend. Everyone welcome!
It’s time to eliminate the negative associations with muzzles and learn all the good muzzles can do.
Muzzles can be a lifesaver (preventing dogs from eating things off the ground and to avoid a foreign body surgery), a training tool (great for gentle handling, especially near the face), a behavior modification tool, and a piece of safety equipment (for use during vet visits, on walks, and transporting or treating a dog who has suffered a traumatic event). And with proper training, it can be low stress and fun for your dog to wear.
Join us to learn why it is important that all dogs are trained to a muzzle (just like a leash, harness or collar). We will teach you about the different types of muzzles, which ones are appropriate for certain situations, and how to properly fit a muzzle. All while learning how to make muzzle training fun and positive for your dog.
The goal of positive muzzle training is when you have to use a muzzle it does not create any extra stress on your pet.

A little about our Free Help Sessions:
Our goal is to teach you what you need to know to help your pet. As much as we wish we could include your pet in this class, it is for humans only, so please leave all those sweet and wonderful pets at home.
These Help Sessions are free to the public on a first come, first seated basis. Please be aware that the Animal Hospital of North Asheville will be seeing patients while the Help Session is in progress, so some of our parking will be reserved for the families of patients needing care. Thank you for understanding.
In case of inclement weather, the class will be canceled. If you have any doubt whether the class will be held, check our Facebook page or call Animal Hospital of North Asheville at 828-253-3393.

Come join Joe Taft for an exploration of the mind-body connection as it relates to one of the deepest muscle groups in the body, the iliopsoas. This muscle group has been discovered to affect our mood and health and is otherwise known as the muscle of the soul.
This muscle group is key to a balanced, well-organized body and mind as it is closely linked to our fight or flight response. The iliopsoas involuntarily activates when we experience fear by tightening and shortening. Without actually attaching to the pelvis, it crosses over the front of the pelvis and connects to the legs and spine. Therefore, problems may show up in other parts of the body: knee, pelvic, hip, neck/shoulders, sciatica and low back.
In this workshop, plan to journey into a deeper understanding of this muscle group, its antagonists and the role of the gluteal muscles. We will explore your body and mind connection and learn how to release your psoas to experience more freedom and happiness.

The true story of the small town that welcomed the world.
Broadway’s Come From Away has won Best Musical all across North America!
The New York Times Critics’ Pick takes you into the heart of the remarkable true story of 7,000 stranded passengers and the small town in Newfoundland that welcomed them. Cultures clashed and nerves ran high, but uneasiness turned into trust, music soared into the night, and gratitude grew into enduring friendships.
Don’t miss this breathtaking new musical written by Tony® nominees Irene Sankoff and David Hein and helmed by this year’s Tony-winning Best Director, Christopher Ashley. Newsweek cheers, “It takes you to a place you never want to leave!”
On 9/11, the world stopped. On 9/12, their stories moved us all.

Rising Appalachia
Leah Song and Chloe Smith, founding sisters of Rising Appalachia, have long witnessed themselves – by both choice and coincidence – carrying harmony into settings of upheaval and discord. Soon after their eponymous release in 2006, the siblings moved to New Orleans to assist in rebuilding efforts following Katrina. There they gained not only a deeper sense of connection to the roots of American music, but also an abiding sense of purpose as musicians. The band, which has now grown to include musicians David Brown on upright bass and baritone guitar, and Biko Casini on world percussion, has settled into its stride and purpose through creating original music with a mission, rooted in the traditions of folk songs, storytelling, and grass roots activism. The band manages to meld traditions and genres the same way Leah and Chloe blend their voices; it’s casual, beguiling, and effortlessly singular.
