Nutritious Thoughts is offering two new educational support groups. The Diabetes Education and Support Group is open to members of the community who have diabetes (Type 1, Type 2, or Gestational) and would benefit from extra education and support around this disease. The gatherings will also include plenty of time for peer support for members to help each other deal with the daily demands of life with diabetes.

The second group is open to all those dealing with Poly Cystic Ovarian Syndrome (PCOS) and looking for more comradery and assistance in navigating their relationship with food and PCOS. This group will be led by Registered Dietitian, Katie Rhodes, RD, LDN, and will be held the 4th Wednesday of every month from 6 to 7 pm at Nutritious Thoughts.

Presented in collaboration with the Asheville Percussion Festival, 51’15.657″ for a Speaking Percussionist is Bonnie Whiting’s realization of a solo simultaneous performance of John Cage’s 45′ for a Speaker and 27’10.554″ for a Percussionist. These are vintage pieces: music from the mid-50’s and part of a series of timed works that Cage enjoyed mixing together and referred to in notes and letters as “the ten thousand things.” A culmination of 14 months of work and study, Whiting is the first performer to execute both pieces in their entirety.

The true blue, time tested, road-rashed, mother of all Guns N’ Roses tributes, NotQuiteGNR (or Appetite For Destruction), is the only fulltime touring GNR tribute. Starting originally in 2001, they never cease to amaze fellow Guns N’ Roses enthusiasts with spot on authenticity. Having always been made up of truly incredible musicians, even “tribute band naysayers” leave completely entertained. Catch this traveling circus freak side show, before they catch you…
Love Makes a Home: The Life of Rebecca Boone tells the compelling tale of Rebecca Boone, a frontier woman who blazed trails alongside her husband, legendary Daniel Boone, and gave birth to ten children, too. The play features wonderful old time music played by William Ritter, and was written by local playwright Kiesa Kay. For a great day, browse in the craft gallery, see the play, and enjoy the parkway! Patti Louise Smith is Rebecca.

Throughout the month of July, you can enjoy a great local craft beverage and help support MANNA’s mission to provide food to families across WNC.
Many of us are busy planning summer vacations, gatherings, and picnics ahead of July. But for over 100,000 Western North Carolina residents busy trying to make ends meet to provide for their most basic needs, that kind of celebration is out of the question.
That is why the nationally recognized WNC beer scene is collaborating again, and raising the stakes, to bring awareness to the issue of hunger in Western North Carolina. Over twenty local breweries are joining forces to help support MANNA FoodBank’s mission to end hunger for thousands of families across WNC through the 2nd annual Hops for Hunger campaign, July 1st – 31st.
Hops for Hunger is made possible through support from Asheville Ale Trail, and MANNA’s annual sponsors: Preserve Communities, Harrah’s Cherokee Casino Resort, Anurja Interactive, The Cantina at Historic Biltmore Village, Mast General Store, and Lamar Advertising.
