CAT ON A HOT TIN ROOF
Sep 30 @ 2:00 pm
Hendersonville Community Theatre

It’s Big Daddy’s 65th birthday.  The mood is somber, despite the festivities, because a number of evils poison the gaiety: greed, sins of the past and desperate hopes for the future as the knowledge that Big Daddy is dying slowly makes the rounds.

Gene Wilder’s Willy Wonka and The Chocolate Factory
Sep 30 @ 2:00 pm – 4:00 pm
Capitol Theatre

Doors open at 1:00PM
Drinks and Concessions Available.
Tickets are $5.00

Gene Wilder, one of the most beloved actors of all time, comes to the Capitol Theater!

The Capitol Theater’s Classics At The Capitol Series rolls right into September with one of Gene Wilder’s most beloved movies, the timeless classic Willy Wonka and The Chocolate Factory. It will be shown at the historic theater Sunday, September 9th at 2:00 PM. Tickets will be only $5.00 and can be purchased at the box office or online.

Based off Roald Dahl’s 1964 novel “Charlie and the Chocolate Factory,” Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory is the story of Charlie Buckett, a poor paperboy who takes his grandfather to visit Willy Wonka’s Candy Factory after finding a golden ticket in a worldwide contest. Four other children from around the globe are also winners. This event has the whole world’s attention as it’s the first time the highly reclusive Wonka has ever allowed anyone to visit his factory, yet alone make a public appearance.

Filled with memorable moments–including a ride through a tunnel that no child who watched the movie has ever forgotten–plus songs such as “Pure Imagination” and “The Candy Man,” Willy Wonka and The Chocolate Factory is a film of pure entertainment for young and old alike that has endured for over 40 years. Local film writer Andy Ross will introduce the film. He says, “This is a movie I have loved all my life and can still vividly recall when my parents handed me a VHS tape of the film for the first time. This is such a wonderful movie; it’s impossible to not love Gene Wilder. I can’t wait to see this on the big screen!”

Located at 104 S Main St. in Greeneville, The Capitol Theater is a historic venue that operated as a movie theater from 1934-1992. Today, The Capitol Theater operates as a performing arts center that features not only great movies, but stage plays, concerts, and other events. The Capitol leads the way in area repertory screenings of classic film.

1st Annual Dance & Drive for Lakota Nation at Ambrose West
Sep 30 @ 4:00 pm – 11:00 pm
Ambrose West

1st Annual Dance & Drive for Lakota Nation at Ambrose West

Life on the reservation is extremely difficult. Many people perish each winter in their own homes from lack of basic necessities. On Pine Ridge Reservation over 33% of homes have no electricity or basic running water, this forces many to carry (often contaminated) water from local rivers daily for use. Infant mortality rate is the highest in the country, and about 300% higher than the US average. This is the result of hundreds of years of genocide that continues today. We believe our indigenous brothers and sisters deserve better.

Kirtan with Ösel
Sep 30 @ 4:30 pm – 6:00 pm

Join us for an evening of inspiring Kirtan with Michael Johnson. All proceeds will be donated to the Native Seeds Project through the Susan Howarth Memorial Fund to help women in Uganda. Northern Uganda is currently host to 795,000+ South Sudanese refugees, the largest refugee crisis in Africa today. The Native Seeds Project provides much-needed tree seedlings to several of these refugee communities. These trees will provide nutrition for the most vulnerable of the refugees (pregnant women and children under the age of 13) while also protecting surrounding forests from the devastating long-term ecological impacts refugee camps incur upon the surrounding landscape. Tree seedling distribution to the camps will also include a comprehensive training for the communities on proper care and sustainable harvesting and preparation of the non-timber forest products provided by the trees. Your help can make a difference!
