For our discussion this month, we will be talking with Brian Johnson, Navitat’s director of operations, about the importance of the outdoor economy for the Asheville and greater western NC area.
We will start with some networking at 11:30 a.m. before the program begins at noon; please arrive early.
Generally, Goodwill provides lunch at these meetings. But under the current circumstances, this meeting will be a virtual potluck!
Things to do to prepare for the event:
- Support a local restaurant by getting take-out to bring to the event.
- When you join, we encourage you to join with video so we can see your smiling face.
- Bring any questions you may have for this amazing group of speakers.

They provide conservation education to the community, support the wildlife rehabilitation network, and offer a Wildlife Emergency Hotline to the public. The Western Arts Agencies of North Carolina (WNC Arts) was established in 1980s as a peer support group for arts councils and agencies in WNC. This group is now working to expand their advocacy support for the arts in WNC.
Mast General Store – Land Trust Day/Week
We are so grateful to Mast General Store in Asheville and Waynesville for continuing to support SAHC’s land, water, and farmland conservation as a Land Trust Day sponsor! These two Mast General Store locations will donate 20% of proceeds from sales on Saturday, June 5 to Southern Appalachian Highlands Conservancy.
PLUS – this year they are running a special “Round-Up” campaign for conservation from June 1st through 6th. Shoppers have the opportunity to ’round up’ their purchase total to the dollar when checking out, and the Asheville and Waynesville locations of Mast General Store will donate those ’round up’ proceeds to SAHC, too!

This is a group for Asheville women in tech who want a collaborative and supportive space to bring projects to workshops, participate in tutorials facilitated by other members, spark new ideas, write practice code, and develop cool stuff. Maybe (like me) you’re just getting started, and you wish you could bounce ideas off someone, or just ask them how to center that block of text on the page? You should come! We’ll work it out together. Or maybe you’re a veteran web developer who thinks rookies are brave (possibly foolish) souls with no idea what they’re getting into? Please come tell us all the things you wish someone had told you! Let’s skill-share, meet other women in the biz, learn new things, and give each other a leg up!

Make your evening shine with these rising stars! Celebrate the talents of over 100 young artists in a joyful night of theatrical performances benefitting the education programs of Flat Rock Playhouse. This virtual production will take you on a dazzling journey through musical theatre and acting features that are perfect for the whole family. Rising Stars: A Virtual Benefit Cabaret comes to your home, phone, or laptop on June 10 and 11 at 7 PM EST. This online production is recommended for kids ages 5 to 100.
Recorded on the Rock and at home, Rising Stars: A Virtual Benefit Cabaret has a run time of roughly one hour and is offered for a minimum donation of $5! “We’re so inspired by the dedication, resiliency, and creativity of our young artists this last year,” says Director of Education Anna Kimmell. “This benefit cabaret is a joyful opportunity to celebrate their work and talents as well as support a bright future for generations to come at Flat Rock Playhouse!”
Studio 52 began their virtual offerings in September 2020. Since then, Studio 52 has offered 25 virtual classes to over 300 students and has hosted three virtual workshops with experienced theatre professionals Adam Kaplan, Pytron Parker, and Fergie L. Philippe. With updates to in-person procedures based on government guidelines, Studio 52 is able to offer both virtual and in-person camps in the summer of 2021. Studio 52 is supported by Walnut Cove Members Association. This project is supported by the North Carolina Arts Council, a division of the Department of Natural and Cultural Resources. www.NCArts.org.

A “Super Shed Sale” will be held Saturday, June 12 from 8am until
4pm at the shed behind the church office and Parish Hall of The Episcopal Church of St.
John in the Wilderness located at 1905 Greenville Highway in Flat Rock.
The fundraiser features home and garden décor, kitchenware, sets of china, office
supplies, sports items, jewelry and art work.
The one day event is sponsored by the Episcopal Church Women of St. John. Due to
COVID-19, The Bazaar of 2020 was an on-line multi-week event with great success,
however not all items were sold. The “Super Shed Sale” prices are set to clear the shed
for spring cleaning.
All proceeds will support local charities.
"The women of St. John have provided different functions to raise money through the
years to assist those in need. The Super Shed Sale will definitely help in our endeavors.
Thank you so much for helping us help others," said co-organizer Linda Giltner.
Updated COVID-19 restrictions will be in place. Social distancing and mask wearing
are strongly recommended inside the shed.* Plenty of parking is available below the
shed.
