Join us in the beautiful neighborhood of Olivette for an outdoor concert featuring two fantastic folk groups: A Different Thread and The Wilder Flower. $25 – Kids are free!
British-American troubadours A Different Thread create richly emotive tapestry of transatlantic folk. Lead singers Robert Jackson (Midlands, UK) and Alicia Best (North Carolina) first met busking in Ireland. Their chance encounter sparked a musical journey that has spanned over nine years, a dozen countries, and two studio albums— capturing the love of two folk singers chasing their dreams on the road.
The Wilder Flower, featuring Danielle Yother on guitar, Molly Johnson on banjo, and Madeline Dierauf on fiddle, encompasses a fresh take on rural Appalachian music. Together they blend modern influences with their deep roots of old time & bluegrass. Their songs are filled with three-part harmonies, tight instrumental blends, and storytelling.

Their performances can bounce from soul, blues, jazz, flamenco, and world music, both within their original tunes and unique interpretations of popular fare. The duo recently moved from Florida to Greenville, S.C., and will make their Western North Carolina debut performance this evening. Ariella & Nicolaas have performed at the Blue Note in New York City and Voodoo Rooms in Edinburgh, Scotland, while Ariella has performed with famed producer Fabrice Dupont and legendary bassist Victor Wooten, among many others. Protoje meets Tippy I (A Dub Experience)
Klezmer Cine Concert
April 22, 2025 at 7:00 p.m.
JSCA and The Center for Jewish Studies at UNCA present the silent film The Ancient Law, with live original music composed and performed by world-renowned klezmer violinist Alicia Svigals and celebrated silent film pianist Donald Sosin. The Ancient Law (Das alte Gesetz) is an important piece of German-Jewish cinematic history, contrasting the closed world of an Eastern European shtetl with the liberal mores of 1860s Vienna. With its historically authentic set design and ensemble of prominent actors, The Ancient Law is an outstanding example of the creativity of Jewish filmmakers in 1920s Germany. Beautifully restored by Deutsche Kinemathek, the story is reminiscent of Al Jolson’s The Jazz Singer, which was made four years later.
The film is 2 hrs, 15 min with no intermission and English subtitles. For questions and more information please email [email protected].
