Reaching Nature Connection Conference
Oct 4 @ 12:00 am – 4:00 pm
Earthaven Ecovillage

Scenes from the reaching nature connection conference

Reaching Nature Connection invites you to join in an exciting weekend of hands-on, research-based, and anecdotal learning. As always, the conference will be infused with songs, games, stories, and deeper nature connection.

Reaching Nature Connection provides an opportunity to set your watch aside and allow the leaders of the conference to hold time for you. The rhythm of each day is designed to move between active and contemplative learning, with a thematic thread running throughout. We will flow between lecture and hands-on components, weaving together our learning through a variety of approaches, with each new component building on the next.

Collaboratively taught by Erin Boehme, Kelly Villarruel, and Lia Grippo with special guest Doug Elliott.

MountainTrue ‎Fall Scenic Hike
Oct 17 @ 9:00 am – 4:00 pm
Pilot Cove Loop

Image may contain: people standing, sky, outdoor and nature

Join MountainTrue’s Ecologist and Public Lands Director, Bob Gale, for a gorgeous and educational hike through Pisgah National Forest. This hike offers breathtaking views of the fall foliage, and if we are lucky, we will catch glimpses of the Monarch Butterfly migration. We will be hiking the Pilot Cove Loop Trail in Pisgah, which is approximately 4 miles long. The trail starts in a lesser known part of Pisgah National Forest and winds upward among the brightly colored sourwood and black gum trees. After opening up onto a beautiful rocky outcrop, the trails travels through recently logged forested as well as much older sections of forest. There are some steep inclines on this trail, but Bob will be making frequent stops to rest and interpret the flora and fauna. Due to the pandemic, we are restricting group size for outings to 10 participants. Sign up today!

All participants will be required to agree to our COVID-19 event guidelines listed below and again agree to comply with the policies on the day of the event in addition to signing our standard wavier.

What to bring:

  • Hiking boots and appropriate clothing for hiking (including rain gear)

  • Lunch/trail snacks

  • Plenty of water

  • Sunscreen

  • Camera

  • Please, no pets on this hike

Volunteer for the Haywood Road Hallow-Clean Up Day
Oct 31 @ 10:00 am – 12:00 pm
Trinity United Methodist Church parking lot

Alternate text

What is a Haywood Road Clean Up Day?
A morning where volunteers work to pick up litter (trash and recycling) along the Haywood Road corridor with the support of the West Asheville Business Association.

How is this event different from other WABA cleanup days?
Safety is our top priority when working with and in the community during the COVID-19 pandemic. Because of restrictions to gatherings and use of public spaces, we will not be providing volunteers breakfast prior to the cleanup. You can review Asheville GreenWorks Communicable Disease Volunteer Guidelines here.

How do I participate?
1-RSVP using this registration form
2-Pick out your costume for the clean up day – you may win a prize!
3-Meet at the Trinity United Methodist Church parking lot on Balm Grove Road on Saturday October 31st at 10am to receive your gear and instructions
4-Head out to pick up of trash and recycling along the Haywood Road corridor and side streets
5-Return your gear to Asheville GreenWorks

Is this a family-friendly event?
Yes, although not recommended for very small children. Haywood Road is a busy street and it is important that you and your children stay alert and safe throughout the clean up.

Should I bring anything?
Asheville GreenWorks will provide gloves, safety vests, and trash bags for everyone. WABA will provide trash grabbers. Please bring any personal items, including snacks and water, that you need.
