CHRIS GETHARD

Chris Gethard is a comedian, actor and author. He’s the host of the Beautiful/Anonymous podcast, which was recently adapted into a 4-part series streaming on Topic, the former host of The Chris Gethard Show, and wrote and starred in the HBO special Career Suicide. He also hosts the podcast New Jersey Is The World, a celebration of his home state.

In June 2021, Comedy Dynamics released Chris’ new comedy special, Chris Gethard: Half My Life, which is a hybrid tour documentary and stand-up special shot in a variety of DIY spaces and independent venues all over the country in 2019.

Chris has been seen on television shows such as Space Force, The Office, Broad City, Parks and Recreation, and Inside Amy Schumer. He’s also been seen in films such as The Other Guys, The Heat, Ghostbusters, Anchorman 2, and was one of the stars of Mike Birbiglia’s Don’t Think Twice. Chris can most recently be seen in the HBO Max documentary Class Action Park.

Chris is also the author of the books Weird NY, A Bad Idea I’m About to Do, and Lose Well, and and the founder of Planet Scum, an online comedy venue for the country’s best underground comedians.

We trust our attendees to select the option that best works for them while also considering how their selection would affect the ability of other participants to access a lower price point.   Accessibility is a priority for OGS, and implementing it is a risk for us as a small non-profit, given that we rely on our large events like the Spring Conference to support our year-round programming and staff salaries. This will certainly be an experimental year, and if we cannot secure enough income through sliding-scale registrations, we will have to rethink our approach to pricing. We trust that our community will be thoughtful in thinking about the value this conference has for them and what they can pay for at this time.

Ryan Cox is a comedian’s comedian. He is also a comedian for people who aren’t comedians. Ryan has been performing stand-up around the Southeast since 2016, with jokes ranging from crafted one-liners to twisted parenting tales to the ghost of Kmart. He has opened for Late Night TV comics like Sean Patton, Pete Lee and Sean Finnerty but he doesn’t like to brag about it.

Acclaimed local playwright and director Rodney Smith has offered to take the usual holiday fare and turn it on its head by adapting this campy and (unintentionally) funny film from the 1960s for our stage. I’d explain the plot, but there’s not much to it outside the title.

Whether you’re a fan of the movie or just looking for an alternative to Christmas schmaltz, you’re going to laugh and cheer at the bumbling Kinmar, Voldar, Dropo and the sexy Mrs. Candi Clause. And isn’t that what the holidays are all about?

Almost Madi will be joining us to play gentle tunes as you peruse our wonderful line-up of craft vendors, which will include artisan food vendors like Brew Naturals (y’all…that elderberry is amazing) and Planet Kitchen, as well as beautiful jewelry, amazing art, glass blowers, ceramics, and of course a wide selection (and maybe even a few special drops) of green goodness from Appalachian Standard!

Highly praised for his colorful storytelling, Max taps into his own personal experiences for laughs. He performs in clubs all over the country and bars in New York City. He has never taken acid but probably won’t say no if you offer it. In addition to standup, Max co-hosts the podcast, In The Minivan, with his best friend and ex-roommate, Michael Rowland.
