The Skyland Library will host J.R. the Therapy Dog on the 1st Friday of each month. Kids are invited to stop by between 2:30-3:30 pm to practice their reading skills with a gentle, patient and adorable canine friend. J.R. is a certified therapy dog and he can’t wait to meet you!

Environmental Education is crucial to what RiverLink does. We believe that in order for someone to protect their environment, they must first understand it. Our education programs focus on getting students out in the watershed for hands-on experiential learning. We help students foster a love and appreciation for their water resources by allowing them to see, hear and interact with their local waterways. As a result of engaging with our program we hope that students will be inspired to become the next generation of watershed stewards.



Mountain Gateway Museum & Heritage Center celebrated the opening of its newest traveling exhibit, “Steeped in Time: Tea and Traditions” on Saturday, January 18, 2020. The exhibit will run through the July 4th weekend at MGM, located at 24 Water Street in Old Fort. Admission is free.

The community is invited to a Valentines Father-Daughter Dance. DJ Halfacre, dance contest, photo booth, snacks, magical memories!


Spring Program Registration
Spring program registration opens on Monday, February 10th for most Girls on the Run and Heart & Sole teams.
Spring registration is already open for the UNC-Asheville community team. All girls are welcome to join! UNC-Asheville will host:
- GOTR program (3rd – 5th)
- Heart & Sole program (6th – 8th)
- NEW 6-week 2nd grade pilot program!

The Rhythmic Arts Project of Asheville will be hosting monthly classes at Pack Memorial Library for teens and adults with developmental disabilities. TRAP is dedicated to empowering and educating individuals with developmental disabilities through the power of percussion and music. Caretakers, parents, and family members are welcome to participate! This event is free, but you do need to register. Please visit the library web page and use the link on the calendar for this program or call 250-4718 to register for the class. Registration is required so we know how many participants to expect, there is no charge for this class.

Finally, on Saturday November 30th after Thanksgiving, we’re excited that it’s Kid Hop time again! Kid Hop Hooray (our awesome indoor family dance party that happens monthly all winter long) is back. This event is for kids of all ages, with family-appropriate music from DJ Oso! Drop in anytime – it goes from 10am til 1pm. There will be FREE Glow accessories for little dancers while they last, plenty of room to run, dance, and get their sillies out while it’s cold outside, and snacks for purchase from Asheville Pizza Co and the Hop Ice Creamery, as well as popcorn and juice boxes! And of course, The Orange Peel bar will be open for mom and dad’s refreshments.

The Frostbite races begin and finish at the Lelia Patterson Center and feature a Family Fun Expo with games, vendor booths & music. Both the 10k and 5k courses provide views of Hutch Mountain and are on hilly to challenging terrain, with some steep inclines. The moderately rolling 1 mile course, makes this premier racing event an opportunity for all running levels and ages.
