Asheville Regional Airport

Leaf-peeping season is upon us, and so is one of the busiest air travel months for AVL. October means pumpkin spice, colorful foliage, cool and crisp weather … and lots of people at the airport.

If you are planning to fly to or from AVL in October:

  1. ALWAYS arrive at least two hours before your flight to allow time to park, possibly shuttle to the terminal (you may have to park in a remote lot), check in, go through security, and get to your gate.
  2. Be ready for traffic on the way to the airport. Not only is the airport full this time of year – so is western North Carolina (for good reason)!
  3. Make your ground transportation plans (for after you land) PRIOR to your trip. This means book a rental car, ride app service, taxi, private car or shuttle ahead of time. Demand for these services increases this time of year, and with a little planning, you may avoid a wait.
  4. Be sure to book a window seat. Peep out your window – the fall color from the skies is sure to be stunning.
MUSIC IN THE AIRPORT

Local musicians create great music for travelers

While standing in line at the TSA checkpoint there’s a good chance that you will hear piano music. Thanks to the Music in the Airport program, local musicians are able to volunteer their time to provide live music for those traveling through AVL.

The piano, located next to the TSA checkpoint in the terminal, is an excellent central location for the musicians to play for the enjoyment of passengers.

The program offers the musicians the opportunity to earn tips and gain exposure. Plus, they use the time to practice their skills and engage with passengers as they play. Passengers enjoy hearing the music these musicians create and supporting local artists.

Currently there are five musicians in the program that play for two hour time blocks. There is potential for this program to grow in the future and provide even more music for busy travelers. So next time you travel through AVL, keep your ears open for the sounds of piano music!

Oct 5 @ 6:00 pm – 8:00 pm
The Farm at Old Edwards

On Wednesday, October 5, enjoy the stylings of singer-songwriter Alyssa Bonagura during the live concert series, Orchard Sessions.
One listens and it becomes crystal clear that Alyssa Bonagura was born to make music. With a voice that touches somewhere deep inside, Alyssa’s soulful sound and powerful lyrics will send you jet-setting into a broad range of human emotions. Growing up on the open roads of America, with her RCA country recording artist parents, Baillie & The Boys, made it impossible for Alyssa not to witness the power and magic of music. At just 3 weeks old, her cradle was the gentle rocking of a tour bus. Her playground encompassed sound checks at fairs and festivals and backstage dressing rooms at a slew of different venues including the Grand Ole Opry and Country Music Award shows.

The Orchard Sessions concert series brings a stellar lineup of well-known musicians to The Farm at Old Edwards – located at 336 Arnold Road in Highlands. For more information about Orchard sessions –  And to book online visit oldedwardshospitality.com/orchardsessons. Online ticket sales open to the public on September 21.

Once both of these are received, BMC will authorize the dealer to release the vehicle. The winner will receive a Form W-2G by January 31, 2023 to use in preparing their 2022 income tax return.

LEAVES ARE RUSTLING So AVL will be bustling
Oct 7 all-day
Asheville Regional Airport

RAIN OR SHINE

Death Cab for Cutie is an American alternative rock band formed in Bellingham, Washington in 1997. The band is composed of Ben Gibbard, Nick Harmer, Jason McGerr, Dave Depper, and Zac Rae. Death Cab for Cutie rose from being a side project to becoming one of the most exciting groups emerge from the indie rock scene of the ’00s. They have been nominated for eight Grammy Awards. The band’s latest release, The Georgia E.P., raised over $100,000 for voter rights organization Fair Fight in 2020.

“For a band in its third decade… Death Cab hasn’t lost its gift for pairing Gibbard’s soft ruminations with propulsive arrangements that know just when to sparkle and sway. But even more importantly, Gibbard himself still sings with a sense of purpose, keenly articulating a distinct swirl of nostalgia, loss and hope for new beginnings.” – NPR Music

The Orange Peel presents Alex G
Oct 7 @ 8:30 pm
The Orange Peel

Alex G is the stage alias of Alex Giannascoli, a singer, songwriter, and multi-instrumentalist who built his reputation with intimate lo-fi pop that combines strong melodic sensibilities with a ragged, impulsive-sounding performance style. As a teenager, Giannascoli, a Pennsylvania native, wrote and recorded music in his bedroom. He released his home-recorded label debut, DSU, in 2014 via Orchid Tapes. The U.K. label Lucky Number mastered and released a couple of Alex G’s earlier DIY albums, Trick and Rules, in the spring of 2015, and he signed with Domino Records for his DSU follow-up, Beach Music, issued in October that year. That album expanded his audience and furthered his reputation, and in 2016 his guitar work appeared on the Frank Ocean albums Endless and Blond. Later that year, he appeared on-stage with Ocean amid headlining tour dates. He retained his idiosyncratic, turbulent style even as he began working with collaborators, expanding his sound, and working in studios. Beach Music and its 2017 follow-up Rocket landed on Billboard’s Heatseekers chart, and his most recent full-length, 2019’s House of Sugar, saw him debut on Billboard’s Emerging Artists, Top Alternative Albums, and Independent Albums charts. House of Sugar was named one of the best albums of 2019 by GQ, Esquire, Pitchfork, The Guardian, Stereogum, and Noisey, among others, and The Fader has dubbed him “America’s greatest living songwriter.”
