A 50K trail/fire road race through the highlands of South Western Virginia. Point-to-Point race from the Cascades to Mountain Lake. Includes an 8-mile short course race.
50k starts at 7:30am and the 8-miler starts at 10am.

From Thursday, May 2nd until Saturday, June 22nd, Momentum Gallery hosts a two-person, mixed media exhibition called Dissolution. The collection features individually created and collaborative works by two artists, Seth Clark and Jason Forck. Original collages mounted to panels play off architectonic sculptures in glass and wood culminating in a cohesive body of work that explores the notion of deteriorating architecture. This event is free and open to the public.

Join us for the 3rd Annual 5k Mental Wellness Walk. Co-presented by All Souls Counseling Center and the National Alliance on Mental Illness (NAMI) Western Carolina.
The Mental Wellness Walk seeks to raise awareness of the importance of mental wellness and community resources that exist for people with mental health issues.
Mental health was ranked one of the leading health issues facing the county according to the most recent Buncombe County Community Health Assessment. All funds raised will support the work of All Souls Counseling Center and National Alliance on Mental Illness (NAMI) Western Carolina.
All Souls Counseling Center is a nonprofit organization that provides quality mental health counseling to uninsured and underinsured residents of Western North Carolina. www.allsoulscounseling.org

Known as one of the most rugged mountains in the southeastern United States, Grandfather Mountain’s trails share the same status. Oftentimes, unique approaches have to be used to maintain this trail system. John Caveny, Grandfather Mountain Natural Resource Management Specialist, has been maintaining the trails within the park for six years, and few people know the ins and outs of the trail like he does.
This course will provide participants with an in-depth look at how to sustainably maintain hiking trails, as well as discover the history of the mountain’s trail system. This course may involve 4 to 7 miles of strenuous activity. Limited to 12 participants.
Registration costs $60 standard or $20 for Bridge Club members. Bridge Club members must present a valid Bridge Club ID with their event ticket/receipt, or they will be charged full price.

Grandfather Mountain’s Adult Field Course series examines specific aspects of the park ecosystem through just the right combination of fun field excursions and classroom presentations. Our course leaders are experts in their fields and include professors, naturalists, scientists and acclaimed photographers, writers, historians and artists.
Most courses run from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m., and lunch will be eaten in the field. Please bring your own lunch.

Local youth involved in programming for building life skills, improving literacy and leadership development welcome young people in the area to join them, and we are always in need of adult volunteers to help with mentoring. Involvement in the Shiloh Community Garden also includes the experience of growing produce organically, lessons in permaculture and the science of sustainability, healthy meal preparation, and entrepreneurship. Qigong (alternatively spelled chi gung or chi kung) is a form of gentle exercise composed of movements that are repeated a number of times, often stretching the body, increasing fluid movement (blood, synovial and lymph) and building awareness of how the body moves through space.
The classes and the introduction to Qigong will be taught by Dr. John Akers.
Dr. Akers is a recently retired Wofford language professor and classical guitarist who has taught wellness classes at Wofford, the Spartanburg YMCA, and Zen Garden. Dr. Akers played and coached collegiate soccer, has practiced meditation over 40 years, and teaches a daily routine of yoga and core strengthening enhanced by Qigong energy play. Dr. Akers is also an avid golfer committed to carrying his own clubs, without a cart.
