Join us for a relaxing ride through quiet countryside on your way to small town life in western North Carolina on the Tuckasegee River Excursion. Departing from Bryson City, this 4 hour excursion travels 32 miles round-trip to Dillsboro and back to the Bryson City Depot. Pass by the famous movie set of The Fugitive starring Harrison Ford!

The Tuckasegee (tuck-uh-SEE-jee) River Excursion includes an 1 hour and 20 minute layover in the historic town of Dillsboro, where you’ll find more than 50 shops, restaurants, a brewery, and country inns. There is time to shop, snack, and visit the many unique shops before returning to Bryson City.

SARA JEAN KELLEY
A lover of wild things— plants, animals, people, and music— Nashville native Sara Jean Kelley crafts songs that combine upbeat, pop-inspired country hooks with thoughtful, often philosophical lyrical themes that explore our human connection to the natural world. Due to her dark sensibility and slightly melancholic sense of humor, Kelley’s particular brand of alternative country is multidimensional, with one foot firmly rooted in her Nashville Country/Americana background, another foot exploring the realms of alternative rock, rock and roll, pop, and even hip hop influences. Her voice, at times husky, dark and sultry, at times floating light-as-a-feather, has been compared to celebrated female country stars Brandi Carlisle, Patti Griffin, and Lucinda Williams. She’s opened for country music icons Emmylou Harris and Rodney Crowell, and her songwriting reveals a clear, intuitive understanding of what makes a song work. Her latest EP Black Snake, is about life and death, transformation and rebirth, strength and resilience; all the things you experience in your early thirties that you wish you had known a decade earlier.

Join the Friends of the Black Mountain Library (FOL) on Wednesday July 19, 2023, at the White Horse Black Mountain (105C Montreat Road, Black Mountain, NC 28711) for an evening of music and snacks. The Upbeats Ukulele Band will perform and debut an original Black Mountain song video. A short recap of the past year’s activities, announcements of new officers, and recognition of FOL volunteers will be a part of this special evening.

Everyone is invited and admission is free. The gathering begins at 5:30pm.

Explore hands on activities and experiments while we learn about the Science of Bubbles or the Science of Sound. Every other week we will play and learn together using a variety of tools, instruments, and toys. AMOS has a plethora of science to intrigue the zeal of every learner!

Beginning Adult Jazz/Musical Theatre Dance meets on Wednesdays from June 14 to July 19. Tuition is $130. In this class, students will learn basic jazz techniques that are essential for any aspiring stage performer. The class will cover iconic steps that you’ve seen in classic musical theater productions, as well as help students fine-tune basic techniques to help them become better dancers. The class is perfect for anyone looking to take their dance skills to the next level, regardless of experience level. Whether students are dreaming of starring in the next Broadway hit or just want to improve their dance skills, the class is the perfect opportunity to learn, grow and have fun. Elizabeth Creamer is a former professional dancer turned dance teacher. Creamer brings a wealth of knowledge and experience to her role as the dance instructor at West Henderson High School. She pursued higher education opportunities in dance at the University of North Carolina at Greensboro, where she obtained her B.A. in Dance Studies. During her time at college, she studied various styles of dance, including contemporary, African, jazz, hip hop, ballroom dancing, belly dancing, ballet and many more. While at college, Creamer auditioned for and was selected as a dancer for The Lost Colony, a Tony Honors Award recipient show, for three summers. After completing her degree, Creamer returned to the area to teach classes at Asheville Ballroom and Dance Center, where she also competed with a Latin dance troupe called The Bluestar Dancers. Additionally, she assisted the former dance teacher at West Henderson High School with various musical productions before eventually taking over as the school’s dance teacher in 2017. Creamer has used her expertise in dance and choreography to create dances for many shows including Grease, Wizard of Oz, Little Shop of Horrors, The Little Mermaid, The 25th Annual Putnam County Spelling Bee, Madagascar Jr. and Frozen Jr. Her creativity and expertise in dance bring out the best in her students, inspiring them to reach their full potential.

What is “Wooey”? “Wooey” means metaphysical, spiritual, visionary, Ashevilly, groovy, hippie, New Earth, nature/cosmic baby kinda stuff. Some people use the word “woo woo” to put people like us down. I have fully claimed the term “wooey” instead. It’s OUR word. Plus, it sounds like something you exclaim when you are having hella fun… ~Wooooooo Weeeeeeee~! Since we last were together, I’ve actually opened a business called “Wooey Momma” to offer resin encased crystal grids that I call Vortex Discs. What is Wooey Wednesday? WW is a time and space to chill out with other members of your local tribe, to meet new people, hear about new things, do “show and tell”, check out what everyone is into, and mostly… to play, have fun, and create community.

We have not met for a Wooey Wednesday since before Covid, but we are going to get it all going again so that we can reconnect with our friends and community. We have missed you all!

As you may recall, Wooey Wednesday flows from introductions, where everyone gets 2 minutes to tell us who they are, what they do, what they are looking for, or what they offer. Then we play, talk, enjoy, do wooey stuff, and have general fun and mayhem. :) We do time the introductions so that it is fair for everyone and that we can get to play time!

Do you make something? Bring it! If someone wants to buy it, groovy! Only bring enough to sit immediately in front of you though. Whatever you got… as long as it’s suitable for gentle folk to witness, ~is legal~, and be something that group members might enjoy. Any $ transactions are your business.

Do you make something that you want people to sample? Chocolate? Hot sauce? Tinctures? Hand cream? Are you trying to get people to know about whatever cool goodness you create that is consumable? Bring all the things you need to offer samples, and make sure you clean up after yourself, but otherwise… heck yeah, I want a taste or a smear…. or a whiff! I double invite you if you make chocolate!

Do you have an event you are facilitating in the near future and want to share it with others? Bring your literature, cards, and tell us about it with your 2 minute introduction!

Do you have a service you provide that you can share easily in 15 minute (or so) sessions? We’ve had astrologers, tarot card readers, Reiki practitioners, Sound Healers, Monochords, Pyramids, selenite benches, Heart Clearings, Fairy Hair, massage therapists, and so on… who have done mini sessions, sometimes for a love donation, sometimes for a set small fee. Just let people know what you consider fair when you introduce yourself. You can choose to do freebies. All of that is your business.

Do you like rocks? Seriously, we are super rock geeks. Christopher Lee Matthews (my metaphysical co-worker and friend) often creates ridiculously potent group meditation sized crystal grids that he then uses to magnify sound healing work. If y’all know him, you know that it’s worth it to just show up for that. It’s never promised. He sometimes can’t do it, but when he does… it’s faaaaaaaantastic.

I recommend bringing some kind of water bottle or tincture bottle to WW because we often do buzzy water things with Christopher’s grid/sound events, and if you have something to put it in, you can take it home with you.

The Brahms G minor Piano Quartet is a relatively early chamber work, yet embodies an outsized orchestral scope of range, expression, and color. Throughout the piece Brahms refers obliquely to his beloved friend Clara Schumann, as well as to his favorite Hungarian melodies and rhythms. Indeed it was Clara Schumann herself who premiered the Quartet in Hamburg in 1861.
