For auditions for Hamlet, the submission deadline is 11:59pm Saturday, June 25th, 2022. Callbacks will be held in person on Saturday & Sunday, July 2nd and 3rd, from 10am to 4pm. Callback location is TBD. The director will contact each pre-selected actor with specific times.
Hamlet will be performed Fridays through Sundays, September 23rd – October 22nd at 7:30 pm.

Please audition for whatever character you are most interested in! Record a 90-second video of yourself reading a Shakespeare monologue that fits the characters you’d like to be considered for – you can do so on your phone.
If possible, please film in Landscape mode, framing yourself from the waist up if able, with a neutral background. Make sure you’re well lit so that we can see your lovely face! (These are not hard and fast rules, just ideal circumstances.)

ACCESS THE GROOVE: A Benefit Concert for Access ETSU

ccess the Groove – Celebrating Disability and Neurodiversity is a benefit concert, art fair, and inclusive community gathering on May 22nd from 1-5 pm at the Grey Eagle Music Hall in Asheville, NC.

 

The event will feature performances by a stellar lineup of musicians from Johnson City and Asheville with and without disabilities including Jordan Scheffer and Chinobay, Mad Mike Martinez , Will Gott, DIYabled, and Lavender Latte.

 

A variety of artists, entrepreneurs, and local agencies that act toward disability justice, equity, and inclusion will also be on-site selling wares and sharing information about their work. Vendors include Open Hearts Art Center, Madam Clutterbuckets Neurodiverse Universe, DIYabled, Austin Shreds, Bo Fisher, FIRST Resource Center, Access ETSU, and more.

 

Proceeds will help support Access ETSU, a new inclusive higher education program for students with intellectual disabilities at East Tennessee State University in Johnson City, TN. In addition to raising crucial funds for program sustainability, Access ETSU will also be congratulating their first-ever graduate and second-ever full cohort of incoming students.

 

The Grey Eagle Taqueria will be open during the event, offering authentic and fresh Latin-American cuisine. There will also be a raffle with lots of local goodies available.

Mind Your Plastic May Benefit Concert

Join performers G Wick, Krave Amiko, Fiddlehead and Astoria for a groove-filled day of music, food trucks, lawn games and local bevs at French Broad Outfitters along the beautiful Hominy Creek.

GreenWorks’ Mind Your Plastic May Benefit Concert is an integral part of this year’s month-long Mind Your Plastic May (MYPM) campaign for community-wide change. The goal of the event is to raise funds which will be used to distribute useful, impactful, and sustainable items to populations in the Asheville community who may not otherwise have access, or whose access may be limited, and to explore other creative & impactful ways to reduce single-use plastic in our communities. This event is family-friendly and will also include local food & beer vendors, artisans, and much more!

What Is Mind Your Plastic May?

In 2019, GreenWorks challenged local community members to practice 30 days of #goingplasticfree. Over 400 people stepped up, and in 30 days we were able to divert an estimated 6750 lbs of trash from the landfill. We are bringing back the 30-day challenge. (And there will be locally-sourced, plastic-free prizes for participating of course!) Plus, all month long we’ll share plastic-related facts, tips for reducing your plastic usage, DIY videos, and more. Our goal is to foster knowledge and encourage mindfulness of plastic consumption and disposal.

The lineup will feature incredible bands covering roots, Americana, and soul — including YARN,Ruby Velle & The Soulphonics, Keep Left, and Heather Sarona!

Brothers and Sisters Like These Benefit Performance

Veterans Healing Farm

Veterans Healing Farm (VHF) is excited to announce a benefit
performance of Brothers and Sisters Like These, Friday, May 27, 6:30 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at the
Veterans Healing Farm, 38 Yale Rd., Hendersonville, NC. There is no fee to attend but
donations are welcome.
Brothers and Sisters Like These is a writing group founded by Vietnam combat veterans at the
Charles George VA Medical Center in 2014 to find their voices the war had taken from them. It
has since included veterans from all our wars and uses poetry and essay writing to help them
heal from past trauma.
The Veterans Healing Farm is a 501c3 nonprofit founded in 2014 to enhance the mental,
emotional, and physical well-being of our nation’s veterans through agri-therapy and
community.
This is an outdoor event so please plan on bringing a lawn chair or blanket to the Farm. For more

BALLET CONSERVATORY OF ASHEVILLE PRESENTS A Mid Summer Night’s Dream

Ballet Conservatory of Asheville presents “A Midsummer Night’s Dream”,

“A Midsummer Night’s Dream”, a frolicking ballet based on Shakespeare’s spriteful play, is set by Ballet Conservatory director Angie Lynn, ballet master Nadia Iozzo and Gavin Larsen after Sir Frederick Ashton’s ballet “The Dream.” Felix Mendelssohn’s prolific score showcases it’s celebrated overture and famed “Wedding March.” Tender, fading melodies and playful rambling riffs capture the imagination of youthful romance.

Ballet Conservatory’s “A Midsummer Night’s Dream” runs May 27-28 at the Wortham Theatre, with performances Friday at 7pm & Saturday at 3pm & 7pm.

Ballet Conservatory’s Helen Coates and Esme Hair alternate the role of Titania alongside Manuel Mata as Oberon. Sarah Adams dances the role of Helena & Sophie Feinblatt as Hermia, with partners Jonah Bell as Demetrius and Eli Simpson as Lysander. Addie Rockoff and Jillian Epstein alternate as the mischievous fairy, Puck, plus Iris Schreiner as Peasblossom.

Ballet Conservatory’s thirteenth Performance Season includes: “Winter Works: Innovations and Variations”, back in March with guest choreography by Nederlands Dans Theater’s Fay Van Baar; “A Midsummer Night’s Dream”, May 27-28; and “The Nutcracker”, performing at Western Carolina University and the Wortham Theatre this December 2022. The Ballet Conservatory offers excellent classical training in its comprehensive Pre-professional program and full schedule of children’s open classes in ballet, modern, jazz & tap. This year BCA students were awarded spots to attend prestigious Summer Intensives, including Pacific Northwest Ballet, Boston Ballet, School of American Ballet, and American Ballet Theatre. BCA students have been accepted into ABT’s Jacqueline Kennedy Onassis school in NYC, North Carolina School of the Arts and the top U.S. universities for ballet: Indian University, Oklahoma University, Butler University, Utah University & Cincinnati University; and one just signed a professional contract with Finnish National Ballet.

ADULT CONTEMPORARY DANCE CLASS WITH STEWART/OWEN DANCE

Henry LaBrun Studio

Led by Stewart/Owen Dance Co-Directors, Vanessa Owen and Gavin Stewart, this open level adult contemporary dance class gradually awakens the body and senses through guided improvisation and a follow along warm-up, followed by foundational across-the-floor exercises and center-work combinations. All experience levels welcome!

About Stewart/Owen Dance: Gavin Stewart and Vanessa Owen, a husband and wife duo, are the co-directors of Western North Carolina based Stewart/Owen Dance. Their choreography has been presented by festivals and companies across the U.S., and their careers have most notably taken them around the globe on fifteen U.S. State Department tours to teach, perform and choreograph contemporary dance with Washington D.C. based Company E. In 2017 they made North Carolina their home base where they work towards building a sustainable community for professional dance artists to set roots. They have choreographed music videos for artists such as Moses Sumney, Sylvan Esso and Ben Phantom. Gavin and Vanessa won the Audience Choice Award at the NYC Dance Gallery Festival 2018, were commissioned as Dance Gallery 2019 Level UP Artists, are recipients of a McDowell Regional Artist Project Grant, a North Carolina Artist Support Grant and were voted “Artists Who Most Pushed the Boundaries with the Human Body” by 2020 Asheville Fringe Arts Festival. Led by Stewart/Owen Co-Directors, Vanessa Owen and Gavin Stewart, this class begins with full body conditioning followed by a series of technical modern exercises, and culminates in either phrase creation or Stewart/Owen repertory. Dancers are encouraged to modify for their own bodies and spaces! We recommend this class to experienced dancers who are looking for a fast-paced contemporary class that pushes their physical and mental boundaries.

Land Trust Day falls on the first Saturday in June to coincide with the annual National Trails Day.  Conservation land trusts like Southern Appalachian Highlands Conservancy play a critical role in helping to conserve land for public enjoyment as well as privately-owned preserves that protect viewsheds and wildlife corridors near national trails. Land trusts work to protect and manage a wide variety of important land and water resources, including habitat for rare plants and animals, farmland, and sources of drinking water for millions of people.

WHERE: Participants will START and FINISH near downtown Asheville, but will run up and down the tree lined streets of North Asheville nearby the historic Omni Grove Park Inn and the Governor’s Western Residence. Course Description.

ABOUT US: Brought to you by the same race organizers that bring you the Asheville Turkey Trot (now in its 20+ year) and the Shut-In Ridge Trail Run (now in its 40+ year).

The Southern Appalachian Highlands Conservancy (SAHC) permanently protects and stewards our region’s most beloved natural areas. Since 1974, over 80,000 acres of unique plant and animal habitat, clean water sources, farmland, scenic beauty, and places for people to enjoy outdoor recreation have been permanently protected in the mountains of North Carolina and Tennessee. We value our local Western North Carolina community and are committed to giving back. A portion of our race proceeds go towards our charity partner for that year. For the inaugural Flying Squirrel Ten Miler we are proud to be supporting a Western North Carolina based non-profit who is helping to conserve the endangered Carolina Flying Squirrel. The Carolina Flying Squirrel is a subspecies of the Northern Flying Squirrel and requires high elevation habitat to thrive. Auditions for Hamlet

The Montford Park Players is pleased to announce auditions for Hamlet, directed by Glenna Grant.
Actors will submit initial audition information online through our website at https://www.montfordparkplayers.org/abou…/volunteers-page/ and may do so at any time.
The Montford Park Players is committed to gender-neutral and race-conscious casting. ALL are welcome and invited to participate! Community theatre is at its best when it fully embraces and engages its FULL community, not just one portion.

For auditions for Hamlet, the submission deadline is 11:59pm Saturday, June 25th, 2022. Callbacks will be held in person on Saturday & Sunday, July 2nd and 3rd, from 10am to 4pm. Callback location is TBD. The director will contact each pre-selected actor with specific times.
Hamlet will be performed Fridays through Sundays, September 23rd – October 22nd at 7:30 pm.
Specific instructions for audition submissions:

Sign in to your Google account (required as most information will be shared in Google documents)
Fill out and submit the form – if you have a headshot and/or resume (not required), please upload them as part of your application.
FILMING INSTRUCTIONS
Please audition for whatever character you are most interested in! Record a 90-second video of yourself reading a Shakespeare monologue that fits the characters you’d like to be considered for – you can do so on your phone.
If possible, please film in Landscape mode, framing yourself from the waist up if able, with a neutral background. Make sure you’re well lit so that we can see your lovely face! (These are not hard and fast rules, just ideal circumstances.)
Please name your video with your name, not the default title; ex. “Smith, John Video”
On the website, click on the link below “Actor Season Video Upload Link” and upload your video.
The director will review each application and video, and will contact prospective actors for callbacks.
Important: This season, the Montford Park Players will require that all persons involved with any show must be fully vaccinated, or present a request for exemption, stating the reasons. The Executive Director, in consultation with the director, will make the final decision on the selection or non-selection of any person who is not fully vaccinated.
Anyone who is interested in a technical role only (stage management, lights, sound, etc.) should send an email to [email protected] and include your background, if any. We welcome all volunteers!
