Moonshiners Reunion
The Moonshiners Reunion & Mountain Music Festival is ALWAYS held the first full weekend in October!
(Thursday, Friday, and Saturday)
Dedicated to keeping the moonshining spirit alive, the Moonshinerβs Reunion is one of the Appalachian regionβs most authentic annual folk music celebrations. The gates open at noon on Thursday. Check back here often for more details!
This event is the inspiration of musician Barney Barnwell, whose career path was as winding and steeped in local color as the Moonshinerβs trail leading to the copper pot corn whisky still. Listening to tales of the Moonshiners of the 30βs and 40βs, many of them relatives, Barney saluted these outlaws of yesteryear by writing and performing songs about their ways, myths, and unique contributions. Barnwell was also instrumental in getting South Carolina Educational Television to film a documentary on moonshining in the foothills, featuring none other than the Barnwell Clan. We are dedicated to keeping his memory, his music and his tales alive with this festival, so join us for a weekend you will never forget!
Plum Hollow Farm (also known as Woodstick), which lies near South Carolinaβs βDark Cornersβ, one of Americaβs moonshining hot spots, provides a unique and beautiful setting for the festival. A covered bandstand and gentle hillside sets the stage for laying on a quilt and getting comfortable when the music begins. Bring your lawn chair, your tent, your RV. Just remember no glass of any kind is allowed!
Want to know how to get to Plum Hollow?Β Click Here For Directions.
Camping
The surrounding woods are always popular for camping, whether it be an RV or a tepee, and everyone is encouraged to bring their instruments so they can join in the βall night pickin’β as in years past. Although we donβt have hook-ups we do have a shower house and camping is included in the price of the ticket.Β Absolutely NO pets of any kind, glass containers, 4/wheelers, modified golf carts, drones or fireworks allowed.Β Campsites are first come, first serve, except for Sponsors and Bands and some select spots at the βTop of the Hillβ. If you are interested in a reserved campsite these must be paid in advance. Please call (864) 357-0222 or (864) 585-0780 for more information or to reserve your spot today! No one will be allowed into the festival until the gates open at noon on Thursday (except sponsors, bands or press).
No one will be allowed into the festival until the gates open at noon on Thursday, except sponsors and bands.
We also have rustic cabins for rent. Festival sponsors or bands have first choice but after that itβs a first come first serve basis. Some cabins will sleep 6 to a room, while other cabin suites include hand carved double beds and only sleep 2. Whether you are looking for privacy with a cabin suite or want to spend the weekend with a group in the regular cabins, each one rents for $100.00 per night and must be rented for all 3 nights. Please call (864) 357-0222 for availability. Also, see our media gallery for photos of the cabins.
Golf Carts
If anyone is interested in renting a golf cart for the Moonshiners Reunion, please contact Brittany at Golf Cart Services. Although we are not affiliated with them, theyβre our official vendor of golf carts. PLEASE make sure you rent a cart with working lights. We do not allow golf carts to be used at night without working lights. Please callΒ (864) 574-4616. Ext. 209
Vendors
The only vendors accepted at the Moonshiners Reunion are exhibitors/vendors of true Southern Heritage articles, such as broom making, wood carving, soap making, pottery, etc. These Folk artisans are strongly encouraged to bring their wares, and may set up and sell for $150.00 & the price of a gate ticket. Also must set up arrangements at least one week in advance. There are no electrical hookups for vendors so you must be self-contained. Vendors are allowed to set-up in the concert area if you wish, but you must be set-up before Thursday evening and plan on staying all weekend. No vehicles are allowed in or out of the concert area after the festival begins. If you are needing more details please feel free to call us at (864) 357-0222.
Tickets
Ticket price is per person and includes camping, parking and all concerts. Ticket prices are for all ages. Tickets may be purchased at the gate. Sponsors & Bands are welcome to come early any time the week of event. Just call in advance to let us know so we can arrange for someone to help you.
** NOTE: we do not manufacture, distribute or sell any alcohol (moonshine) at our venue
Once Again, we thank everyone who participates in making this such a memorable event. Where else can you enjoy moonshining folklore and great music while surrounded by great friends and the Blue Ridge Mountains!

This electrifying combination of theatre, dance, and technology brings classic tales to new light.
We begin with Aesopβs classic fable of The Tortoise and the Hare but continue the story β which finds them 10 years down the road, now with children of their own and exploring modern day distractions. Smart phones and video games create a new landscape of lost connections to life experiences. The Next Gen features Tortoise Junior and Liβl Hare in a whole new kind of race, where their adventures lead them into unexpected territory. Old Man Tortoise and Big Daddy Hare must come together despite their differences to find and save their children. What hurdles will they have to overcome to make it to the finish line?
With dazzling visuals, poignant storytelling and the creative use of music from classical to pop, this production brings this tale into a new brilliant light. Recommended for grades K-5. Connect with the artists in a post-show Q&A.
The Student Series is open to school groups, homeschoolers, community groups and families.
*This production contains lasers and strobe lights.

The US Forest Service-Pisgah Ranger District and
Haywood Community College invites people of all ages to celebrate the forest heritage
of Western North Carolina at the Cradle of Forestry in Pisgah Forest, NC during the
annual Forest Festival Day on Saturday, October 7, 2023 from 10:00 am-5:00 pm.
This activity-filled, family event commemorates the traditions of mountain living and
craft in the Cradleβs unique and beautiful setting. Forestry students, a local author,
traditional craftsmen and exhibitors will be on site during the celebration.
At the event, six colleges and universities will compete for a trophy in the Annual John
G. Palmer Intercollegiate Woodsmenβs Meet, organized by Haywood Community College
in Clyde, NC. Participating colleges and universities include: Haywood Community
College (Host) from Clyde, NC; Penn State Mont Alto, from Mont Alto, PA; Montgomery
Community College from Troy, NC; Wayne Community College from Goldsboro, NC;
Mountain Gateway Community College from Clifton Forge, VA; and NC State University
from Raleigh, NC.
Festival-goers can cheer as forestry students compete during the Woodsmenβs Meet
that has the flavor of an old-time lumberjack competition. Students will test their skills
in a number of events including archery, axe throwing, crosscut sawing, wood chopping,
chainsaw, log rolling, pole climbing and pole felling.
The Woodsmenβs Meet is held in the open field at the Pink Beds Picnic Area. This area
allows for the safety of participants and spectators while at the same time providing
opportunities to see all the action. Spectators are encouraged to bring a chair or blanket
for comfort. We are pleased to announce the return of STIHL as the event presenting
sponsor and Bojangles of Mills River will provide breakfast for each of the competing
students.
Festival goers can cut a tree βcookieβ with a cross cut saw to take home. The following
community partners will also be joining us with information about their work/mission,
providing giveaways and other fun activities: STIHL, Society of American Foresters,
Hemlock Restoration Initiative, Muddy Sneakers, Local Author Gerald Ledford, Carolina
Mountain Club and FIND Outdoors.
Two presentations will be given during the event by local author, Gerald Ledford at
11:00 am and 1:00 pm in the sunken amphitheater of the Cradle Discovery Center. At
other times throughout the day, you can speak with Ledford as you climb aboard and
ring the bell of a 1914 Climax logging train engine permanently on site at the Cradle. A
PowerPoint presentation will feature railroad logging in the woods. Ledfordβs paternal
grandfather Lewis Ledford worked as a mill superintendent for his brother-in-law Louis
Carr at Norwood Lumber at Forney Creek and Carr Lumber at Pisgah Forest, NC. His
father Bryson Ledford was born at Forney and named for Dr. Daniel Rice Bryson. Several
of Ledfordβs great uncles were employed by the lumber mills at Forney, Ravensford,
Proctor and East LaPorte during the lumber boom of the early 1900s. The presentation
will feature many rare photographs of railroad logging in the Blue Ridge and Great
Smokies. Ledford enjoys hiking old railroad grades and has been researching the
logging railroads in western North Carolina for over 45 years. With Ron Sullivan, he has
co-authored five books of the history of logging railroads in western North Carolina
titled, βIf Rails Could Talkβ¦.β The first 5 volumes are currently in print and are available
for purchase on site at the Cradle. Ledford has also provided information and
photographs for several authors as well as the Ken Burns Public Television series, βThe
National Parks; Americaβs Best Idea.
The Trolley Company will provide a shuttle between the Cradleβs Forest Discovery
Center and the Pink Beds from 11:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. The Pink Beds Picnic Area will be
closed to non-event use for the day.
Admission for this event is $10.00 ages 13 and up; $6.00 for youth ages 4-12, and $5 for
federal pass holders and Cradle season pass holders. Children under 4 years old are
admitted free. Tickets are available on-site at the Cradle the day of the event. Cash is
