Our Walnut Adoption is only $25 and you can adopt your own white squirrel. At this adoption level you can select a boy or a girl white squirrel, name your white squirrel and receive aCertificate of Adoption and a photo of your white squirrel.
It’s true, you’re not adopting a specific white squirrel in the wild. But your annual adoption fee will be directed towards the efforts of our local White Squirrel rehabilitation efforts. Asheville GreenWorks has spent the last 47 years organizing river, creek, and roadside cleanups. We know the sources of pollution and now we have a device that can keep most of it from reaching our river. As this program grows, we need additional support to help us maintain these new devices, manage projects, and keep an eye on our fragile waterways.
It’s time for the community to have a larger say in the health of their waterways.
We will be holding two Zoom introduction meetings on Jan 28th. One at 12pm and the other at 6pm that same day, where we will go over the following topics:
1) Equipment
2) Safety (COVID, SHARPS etc)
3) Point Source Pollution
4) How to clean out the Trash Trout
5) Reporting
6) Cleanups / Restorations
After the introduction meeting you can decide if you want to join in on this program. You can support this local initiative at your own pace. StreamKeepers will receive ongoing training seminars, access to AGW resources and tools, plus special GreenWorks gear.

The special Schaefer Center Presents production will include a recorded introduction by BalletX co-founder Christine Cox, the BalletX 15th Anniversary Season video, and mixed rep selections “Increasing” and “Fancy Me.” In honor of BalletX’s 15th Anniversary Season, the company has commissioned a documentary film by Daniel Madoff that highlights its growth, trajectory, and continued commitment to redefining ballet in the 21st century. Known as Philadelphia’s premier contemporary ballet company, BalletX commissions choreographers from around the world to create new ballets that are “fresh, inclusive, and connect to what people want” (Philadelphia Citizen). Led by Artistic & Executive Director Christine Cox, BalletX has produced nearly 100 world premiere ballets by more than 50 choreographers, and performed for over 100,000 audience members at home and on tour, including appearances at such prestigious venues as the Kennedy Center, Vail Dance Festival, Joyce Theater, and Jacob’s Pillow.

merican Airlines and Asheville Regional Airport (AVL) are growing together again! In anticipation of increasing interest in travel to the Asheville area, American is launching new daily nonstop service to Ronald Reagan Washington National Airport (DCA) as well as new Saturday service to Boston Logan International Airport (BOS) and Chicago O’Hare International Airport (ORD) in time for summer.
Service to DCA begins June 3 and will operate through Sept. 7. Flights to BOS and ORD both begin June 5, and will operate through Nov. 6 and Sept. 4, respectively. All flights will be operated on regional aircraft equipped with 76 seats in a two-cabin configuration.
With the addition of these new routes, American will operate a record of 12 peak day flights at AVL.
“American continues to show significant commitment to the western North Carolina market,” said Lew Bleiweis, A.A.E., Executive Director of the Greater Asheville Regional Airport Authority. “It is exciting to welcome these new routes this summer, which are great new options for travelers.
