Please note these new policies in effect at our Market until further notice:
In the wake of concern over COVID-19, the Market will be implementing additional methods to help prevent the spread of illness:
• Walk-up service with vendors with proper distancing. Note that all customers must enter/exit from one of two locations and travel the market in a clockwise fashion. Be prepared to wait to enter the market if we are at capacity. Once in the market, look for the chalk lines that will keep you distanced from other customers while in line. Only one customer at a booth at one time.
• Drive-up service from 10am to 12pm on Saturday.
Please pull your car up along the Rice Street side of the market. Look for the blue tent and the signage. Stay in your car and a market employee will approach your vehicle. Hand that person your shopping list and cash or info for your pickup. They will ask any questions to clarify your order and ask you to pull your vehicle up and wait. A runner will make your purchases or pick up your prepaid items and return to your vehicle, placing it all in the back seat or trunk when possible. All market employees/volunteers will wear gloves and sanitize frequently.
• If you do not feel that it is safe for you to visit the market, many of our vendors are offering direct sales and delivery options that limit contact. Please visit our website for that information: http://www.transylvaniafarmersmarket.com/purchase-directly.html

Buncombe County Recreation Services will open its five outdoor swimming pools. Safety and sanitation measures have been taken to comply with Buncombe County’s Stay Safe, Stay Smart order in response to the COVID-19 pandemic. Pool visitors will be required to practice the Three Ws: wear a cloth face covering when entering/exiting the pool and when not in the pool, wait at least six feet apart from and avoid close contact with anyone who does not live in your household, and wash your hands or use hand sanitizer often.
Pool will open for two sessions Monday-Saturday, closing between sessions for a sanitation period that includes wiping down all common touch points. Sunday hours include one session. Admission for each session is $3 per guest. Due to limited capacity, guests are highly encouraged to purchase tickets online. If a pool is unable to open for any reason or is forced to close within the first hour of operation, all guests will receive a raincheck via the email address provided when purchasing the original ticket. Booking are currently available through July 10.

Hands-on History
Join Park Rangers on Saturdays in July to get hands-on with history. Each Saturday features a different topic and allows visitors of all ages to interact with history related to the Sandburg family experience at Connemara. Come anytime between 11am to 3pm. All programs will be offered at the amphitheater.

This year, we weren’t able to host our “Strolling through History” series of walking tours, but thanks to some awesome work by interns we hosted from UNC Asheville this spring, they will be partially available virtually!
Enjoy “Scrolling” through history from your couch, or grab your tablet or smartphone and follow the tour in real life. (Make sure to follow local safety guidelines!)
The tours will be posted as links in this event discussion. Leave a comment and let us know what you think!

Asheville Gallery of Art
July Show
“Infinite Possibilities”
Asheville Gallery of Art’s July show, “Infinite Possibilities,” is a multi-member show highlighting the insights artists gained during increased time in their home studios during the COVID-19 pandemic. The show runs July 1-31 during gallery hours.
Change can be good! As members of a cooperative, the 31 artists of Asheville Gallery of Art are used to being and working together to keep the gallery functioning. With COVID-19, everyone is working in their home studios and finding that they have the chance to do what they might not have tried before. Many say they have found infinite possibilities within their work as well as new ways to sell work they’ve been creating.
One of Relix Magazine’s “On The Verge” picks, THE GET RIGHT BAND is “hip-shaking, earthquaking pure funk fun” (The Alternate Root). Combining catchy, clever songwriting with musical expertise and fearless improvisation, the live show promises to make you shake everything you’ve got. From funk to rock n’ roll to reggae, this is a dance party.

Morgan Geer, the songwriter behind Drunken Prayer, is the current guitar player for iconic alt-country goths, Freakwater. He’s recently been touring internationally solo with The Handsome Family.
Morgan was born in San Francisco and grew up traveling around the US, following his folk-singing mother. Today he splits time between Portland, OR and Asheville, NC. He’s lived in nearly every region of the country and sounds like it. His is American music – straight, no irony chaser.
Drunken Prayer will likely bring to mind The Band for a lot of listeners, with the sense of place and history. But Morgan Geer’s songs and his singing often suggest a kinship with artists like Bobby Charles or Doug Sahm, musicians with Southern roots, with a yip and break to their voices, and notes of sadness offset by a wicked sense of humor.

Zoe & Cloyd
Hailing from opposite ends of the Appalachian mountains, Zoe & Cloyd is renowned fiddler and vocalist Natalya Zoe Weinstein and award-winning songwriter, multi-instrumentalist, and vocalist John Cloyd Miller. Their show is as diverse as their upbringing: coming from a lineage of klezmer and jazz musicians, Natalya trained classically in her home state of Massachusetts before moving south in 2004. John, a twelfth generation North Carolinian and grandson of pioneering bluegrass fiddler, Jim Shumate, is a 1st place winner of the prestigious Chris Austin Songwriting Contest as well as an Artist Fellowship recipient for songwriting from the North Carolina Arts Council. Both Natalya and John are instructors in the Traditional Music Program at Warren Wilson College.

Over 15,000 colored lights, plus colorful lasers sparkling on thousands of leaves, cables, rope, and platforms throughout the park will create a mystical tree climbing experience like you can’t imagine. The Twilight session start time is 7:30 each Saturday night and runs until 9:30. Ages 4 and over. Reservations are suggested and can be made by calling 877.247.5539 or adventureavl.com.

The Arboretum’s popular ArborEvenings summer after hours series will return this season with a special LEGO twist. Held every Thursday, Friday and Saturday, July through September, from 8 to 11 …

Dr. Weiser has his Doctorate in Piano/Chamber Music from the prestigious Peabody Conservatory. He has played, among many others, at Carnegie Hall and The National Gallery in Washington, DC. He’s played concerts in Israel, Thailand, Holland, and France. Dr. Weiser was a US Artistic Ambassador, touring 11 countries in the Middle East and Asia. He has been on the faculty at Dartmouth College. AmiciMusic was founded by Daniel as a means of bringing great chamber music to venues that wouldn’t normally present it (like White Horse Black Mountain). He has similar concert seasons under way not only in Asheville, but also Baltimore (where he lives), New Hampshire, Florida, and New Mexico. The great success of these musical endeavors is well deserved. Having said all that, however, the proof is in the playing, and Daniel won’t disappoint.

Today, Senator John Cornyn (R-TX) and Senator Amy Klobuchar (D-MN) introduced the bipartisan Save Our Stages Act. We need you to contact your elected representatives through SaveOurStages.com asking them to support this bill.
The Save Our Stages Act provides Small Business Administration grants for independent venues, promoters, and festivals affected by COVID-19 stay-at-home orders. These grants offer at least six months of financial support to keep us afloat, pay employees, and preserve a critical economic sector and our ecosystem for communities across America.
Through SaveOurStages.com, more than 1 million emails have been sent letting all 538 members of Congress know that constituents want to keep independent venues, promoters, and festivals alive.
Please help us and continue to push.
