Floyd Philharmonic – A Pink Floyd Tribute
Nov 5 @ 7:30 pm
White Horse Black Mountain

Floyd Philharmonic - A Pink Floyd Tribute

ock out with a nine-piece band of veteran musicians who bring selections drawn from the Floyd’s long career to the stage of the White Horse Black Mountain. The performers include Bill Altman (lead guitar), Johnnie Blackwell (vocals & guitar), David Bradley (vocals & bass), Katie Cilluffo (vocals & effects), David Cohen (drums), Karen Connor (vocals & guitar), Brad Curtioff (keyboards), Rebecca O’Quinn (vocals) and Wes Parker (saxophone). The producers of this Pink Floyd Tribute note that “Our show features all local musicians. As working musicians in Western North Carolina, we endeavor to create musical and artistic opportunities with and for members of our own community. We want to encourage and connect with the creative people who have chosen this amazing place to be their home. There is a wealth of talent, vision, and experience hidden away between our blue peaks and valleys. In addition to our talented musicians, our presentation includes artwork by two local painters and a special original short film by local film maker, David Vaughn.” When founding member Syd Barrett left Pink Floyd in early 1968, there was good reason to think that the band was over. Five years later, the band would release one of the most popular albums in the history of the recording medium, The Dark Side of the Moon. Bill Kopp’s book, Reinventing Pink Floyd charts the creative path the band would navigate in the years leading up to that landmark album. Reinventing Pink Floyd provides a wealth of information about the band’s early days, but those stories are more than mere trivia. Taken together, they provide a detailed picture of the ways in which the group changed its original direction. With the benefit of hindsight, most everything Pink Floyd did between 1968 and 1972 was a step on the road toward making the epic album, The Dark Side of the Moon. Kopp will share some of those anecdotes – stories about moon landings, ballet performances and purposeful recycling of musical material – in a lively and engaging presentation. About Bill Kopp: With a background in marketing and advertising, Asheville-based writer Bill Kopp got his professional start writing for Trouser Press. After a stint as Editor-in-chief for a national music magazine, Bill launched Musoscribe in 2009, and has published new content every business day since then. With over 3000 entries and more than 700 interviews, Musoscribe now publishes every single day. The interviews, essays, and reviews on Musoscribe reflect Bill’s keen interest in American musical forms, most notably rock, jazz, and soul. His work features a special emphasis on reissues and vinyl. Bill’s work also appears in many other outlets both online and in print. He also researches and authors liner notes for album reissues, and co-produced a reissue of jazz legend Julian “Cannonball” Adderley’s final album. Reinventing Pink Floyd, published by Rowman & Littlefield, is his first book. A paperback edition will be available in September.

WINNINGS

Once the winner has selected a prize vehicle, the Dealer will notify BMC of the award vehicle’s MSRP. BMC will calculate the required federal income taxes due. The raffle winner is responsible for remitting the funds to BMC for the federal income tax. Brevard Music Center is required by law to report the base MSRP of the vehicle the winner chooses as gaming income to federal and state authorities and to withhold and deposit federal income taxes equal to 25% of the MSRP less the wager (raffle ticket). The winner’s payment of the federal taxes to BMC will be deposited with the US Federal Treasury and the winner will receive credit for the taxes remitted. In order for the dealer to release the winner’s vehicle, the winner will need to provide the following to BMC:

  1. A completed form W-9.
  2. Payment to BMC of the appropriate amount of federal tax withholding in cash or certified check.

Once both of these are received, BMC will authorize the dealer to release the vehicle. The winner will receive a Form W-2G by January 31, 2023 to use in preparing their 2022 income tax return.
