Asheville Guitar Bar

Chicago Don hosts the AGB Stage for our Big City Blues Jam. Come sign up to play!

Chicago, Detroit, New York. Bright lights. Big city. Get mesmerized in the sound of Big City Blues. Clear, sharp melodies on horns and harps contrast the deep, rich back beats of the electric bass. Keyboard riffs battle electric guitars that are on fire, and classic blues drum beats drive home the groove. Lose yourself in a night of soulful music reminiscent of Freddie King, Charlie Robison, Billie Holiday, Luther Allison in the smoke filled dance halls of the past.

Breaking box office records week after week and receiving thunderous raves on Broadway, this Hello, Dolly! pays tribute to the original work of legendary director/choreographer Gower Champion – hailed both then and now as one of the greatest stagings in musical theater history. Life Like Water LIVE at Sanctuary Brewing Company
May 31 @ 8:00 pm – 11:00 pm
Sanctuary Brewing Company

Lifelikewater is the brainchild of David Matters and is a musical response to a radical shift in awareness.
After many years of creating music through various projects (most notably the newgrass band, Gipsy Moon) as well as a number of genre shifts, his focus has narrowed and his vision has broadened.

Together, with his bandmates Megan Drollinger and Charles Furtado, Life Like Water has developed a sound that straddles the edges of contemporary folk and traditional music from around the world.

This music contains elements to fit almost anyone’s taste. You can dance, groove, bob your head, space out, tune in, relax, get excited, and possibly even shed a tear to it.

21-year-old producer and DJ Zen Selekta is one of Atlanta’s fastest rising electronic music artists. As a tastemaker in the bass music community, she provides a spiritual identity marked by dark tonalities and dangerously delicious bass lines. Zen’s mission is to unify humanity through transcending melodies of passion and healing sounds.

Zen’s original work pulls inspiration from world bass and deep dubstep. She fuses organic and sacred frequencies devised to awaken and ignite people within. With ambition to heal others and inspire change, Zen manifests her intentions into audible soundscapes. The energy she brings during live sets is contagious, leaving the crowd revitalized. Rightly so, she has secured festival appearances and shows all over the East region- embodying her calling as a Selekta.

Paying homage to The Messenger God of Ancient Rome and the planet closest to the sun, this dual threat DJ/Producer has been delivering elemental bass music across the South East for over eight years. Walking the line between light and dark forces during his performances with a growing collection of original productions and Undergrowth collaborations in his massive arsenal of underground gems, the endurance to spin for hours on end, and an unmeasurable passion for uplifting the electronic music & art community, this practicing techno-shaman is truly of a unique breed…and he’s only getting started.

Makak [Asheville, NC]

Makak is deep bass music producer and DJ based out of western North Carolina. Exploring deep sub frequencies in his music, moving from dubstep, glitchy deep bass, drum and bass, hip hop and anything in between in each set, Makak has something unique for any setting and set time.

With releases on multiple labels in 2018 including Version Collective, The Undergrowth, Subworld Audio and Abstract Future, among others, Makak is constantly striving to push his sound into new avenues and directions, never satisfied with “good enough”.

Steel Panther
May 31 @ 9:00 pm – 11:59 pm
The Orange Peel

Steel Panther
plus Wilson & True Villains
Show: 9pm
Doors: 8pm
$26 – $28
Ages 18+

Tickets & Info: www.theorangepeel.net/event/steel-panther/

The title of Steel Panther’s third full-length album, All You Can Eat, came from a dream.

However, it wasn’t a dream Martin Luther King had or even any of the band members—Michael Starr [lead singer], Satchel [guitarist], Lexxi Foxx [bass], and Stix Zadinia [drums]—for that matter.

“Believe it or not, the title came from a fucking girl that I was fucking,” admits Satchel. “She fell asleep next to me on the tour bus. She woke up and told me she had a dream that we called the album, All You Can Eat. She was really hot, and she had great tits. I decided I was going to steal the title from her and not tell her. I kicked her off the bus. She can’t do jack shit about it. She’s probably living in a trailer park somewhere. It’s a great title though.”

More importantly, that moniker fits this rock ‘n’ roll opus like a condom—not that Steel Panther practice or condone safe sex though. No, All You Can Eat is raw, raucous, and righteous heavy metal in its finest form. The Los Angeles quartet upholds the pillars of its sound. There are badass riffs aplenty, arena-size grooves, lyrics about sex, drugs, and senior citizens, and the lingering scent of whisky, a stripper’s perfume, and hairspray. In order to capture all of this, the band began writing immediately after they got off the road behind their sophomore effort, Balls Out, their second album to debut at #1 on Billboards Comedy Albums Chart.
