Mars Hill Farmers + Artisans Market

We are a producer only tailgate market located on the campus of Mars Hill University. We are located on College Street. The market will be held every Saturday morning from 10am-1pm, from April to October.

We offer fresh local produce, herbs, garden and landscape plants, cut flowers, cheeses, meats, eggs, baked goods, jams, honey, soaps, tinctures, crafts & more!  We can now accept Credit & Debit Cards, as well as EBT/SNAP Benefits. We have also been approved to participate in the Double Up Food Bucks program in 2021! Throughout the season we plan to have local musicians and cooking & craft demonstrations.  Sign up for our e-newsletter to get the latest weekly updates!

Conserving Carolina and Blue Ridge Humane Society: Tails and Trails

Gather your favorite hiking buddy, canine or human, and explore the amazing trails in our community thanks to the work of Conserving Carolina and support two organizations at one time!

During the week of April 11-18, hit the trails that have been made possible by Conserving Carolina with your favorite two- or four-legged friend and complete additional challenges for prizes from BRHS and Conserving Carolina.

There are three hike options: Bearwallow Mountain, any segment of the Oklawaha Greenway between Jackson Park and Berkeley Mills Park, and the perimeter trail of the Park at Flat Rock.

Complete one or all of the hikes and walks and discover for yourself the work of Conserving Carolina in our community with your furry friend! Proceeds support Conserving Carolina and the programs of Blue Ridge Humane Society that provide new homes for pets in need, support services for local pets and their owners, and more!

Sam’s Knob Watercolor Backpacking Trip

Blue Ridge Hiking Company

Heidi Nisbett, an accomplished backpacker and talented artist, will not only guide you on a 3-day backpacking trip near Sam’s Knob, she’ll teach you the basics of watercolor painting and painting outdoors along the way. We’ve kept the mileage pretty low – around 14 miles total – to leave a couple hours each day for painting. Highlights of this trip include the Sam’s Knob, Black Balsam Knob, Tennant Mountain, and Laurel Creek. You’ll leave the trip with at least 2-3 finished paintings (and the materials you’ll need to keep painting on your future hikes!), drawing inspiration from subjects including rolling mountain views, rivers and creeks, and early spring flora. This is a beginner-friendly trip, or a chance for more experienced backpackers to try something new! No prior painting experience is necessary.

About ASAP Farmers Market

The ASAP Farmers Market and the ASAP Winter Farmers Market are designed to protect shoppers and vendors by maintaining social distances and mitigating potential virus transmission points during the COVID-19 pandemic. The market is located on the downtown campus of A-B Tech in the parking lot beside the Bailey Student Services Building (340 Victoria Rd.). Enter via Student Circle and follow market staff directions to park or queue inside your vehicle. Handicapped parking is available and there is a bus stop on the S4 route adjacent. The ASAP Farmers Market and Winter Market offer Double SNAP.

The ASAP Farmers Market is open Saturdays, the first week in April through the third week in December, 9am – noon.

COVID-19 SAFTEY PROCEDURES
Please be safe and follow our Covid-19 market procedures.

  • No customers or vendors exhibiting symptoms may enter the market.
  • Maintain 6 feet of social distance at all times.
  • One customer at a time for each vendor table.
  • Only handle product you are purchasing. Vendors will pre-package or bunch products.
  • All vendors and shoppers are required to wear masks. Customers who are not able to wear a mask may arrange to pre-order from vendors. Market staff will direct you to a separate parking area and deliver prepaid items to the car.
  • Children, if they must attend with adult shoppers, must be closely supervised.
  • Please leave your pets at home.

HOW DO YOU PAY? Vendors accept touch-free credit or debit payments as well as SNAP. Some take exact cash (no change given) or check. SNAP tokens may be purchased at the market table. The market offers Double SNAP (i.e., if you purchase $20 in SNAP tokens, you will receive $40 to spend). Come observe the Park under a shadow of darkness and watch as it comes alive. Join a Park naturalist as you hike along the Hickory Nut Falls trail, a moderate hike. You never know what nocturnal animals you may hear or see.  You will want to bring a headlamp or flashlight, dress appropriately for the weather, wear comfortable hiking shoes and bring water. Space is limited to 15, and advance registration is required.
