Health-e from Home is a free 8-week program designed to help you make a few small changes to your everyday health habits – and it can be done at home, or anywhere. Researchers at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill are evaluating the acceptability and usage of this free online program that is designed to help people who are spending more time at home due to COVID-19 build healthier habits.  Those who join the study will receive access to weekly lessons and tailored feedback from the study team that will encourage small changes to their eating, small increases in activity, and simple activities to promote well-being. Participants will complete a brief, 20-minute survey at the beginning and end of the program, as well as weekly check-in questions to help the study team provide personalized feedback to help individuals meet their health goals.  Those who are interested in focusing on maintaining or losing weight will also be invited to a private Facebook group to join other study members working to meet weight goals during the study. Live Stream: Joshua Messick
Jul 24 @ 8:00 pm – 9:00 pm
Online

Joshua Messick is a national hammered dulcimer champion. Nobody is more fluid on the instrument. Nobody asks more of the hammered dulcimer and certainly nobody else gets such a response. Joshua introduces the instrument to places it didn’t know it belonged and makes both the dulcimer and the music sound like they’ve known each other forever. The live stream Josh will present for White Horse Live on Fri. July 24 will be especially important. Josh will premiere material from his new solo LP, Pure Hammered Dulcimer.  A combination of original compositions and timeless songs, the LP is yet another step in Joshua’s journey. The first track, “DulciForte” in and of itself is a dazzling piece of music, taking the instrument and Josh even a big step further.

PATIO SHOW: Drunken Prayer

  • ALL AGES

  • OUTDOOR PATIO SHOW (LIMITED CAPACITY, WITH SOCIAL DISTANCING GUIDELINES IN PLACE. ADVANCE TICKETS ARE ENCOURAGED.)

DRUNKEN PRAYER

Morgan Geer, the songwriter behind Drunken Prayer, is the current guitar player for iconic alt-country goths, Freakwater. He’s recently been touring internationally solo with The Handsome Family.

Morgan was born in San Francisco and grew up traveling around the US, following his folk-singing mother. Today he splits time between Portland, OR and Asheville, NC. He’s lived in nearly every region of the country and sounds like it. His is American music – straight, no irony chaser.

Drunken Prayer will likely bring to mind The Band for a lot of listeners, with the sense of place and history. But Morgan Geer’s songs and his singing often suggest a kinship with artists like Bobby Charles or Doug Sahm, musicians with Southern roots, with a yip and break to their voices, and notes of sadness offset by a wicked sense of humor.

Zoe & Cloyd

Hailing from opposite ends of the Appalachian mountains, Zoe & Cloyd is renowned fiddler and vocalist Natalya Zoe Weinstein and award-winning songwriter, multi-instrumentalist, and vocalist John Cloyd Miller. John, a twelfth generation North Carolinian and grandson of pioneering bluegrass fiddler, Jim Shumate, is a 1st place winner of the prestigious Chris Austin Songwriting Contest as well as an Artist Fellowship recipient for songwriting from the North Carolina Arts Council. Both Natalya and John are instructors in the Traditional Music Program at Warren Wilson College.

Dr. Weiser has his Doctorate in Piano/Chamber Music from the prestigious Peabody Conservatory. He has played, among many others, at Carnegie Hall and The National Gallery in Washington, DC. He’s played concerts in Israel, Thailand, Holland, and France. Dr. Weiser was a US Artistic Ambassador, touring 11 countries in the Middle East and Asia. He has been on the faculty at Dartmouth College. AmiciMusic was founded by Daniel as a means of bringing great chamber music to venues that wouldn’t normally present it (like White Horse Black Mountain). He has similar concert seasons under way not only in Asheville, but also Baltimore (where he lives), New Hampshire, Florida, and New Mexico. The great success of these musical endeavors is well deserved. Having said all that, however, the proof is in the playing, and Daniel won’t disappoint.
