this school year? We offer creative activities, diverse projects,

What goes on behind the curtains? In this course students learn the ins and outs of technical theatre and backstage work, including safety, basic light and sound board operation, and stage management. Students will then put their skills to practice by covering technical and backstage roles during Youth Production Class performances of The Giver. Students will split tech and performance dates so some scheduling conflicts may be accommodated. Tuition will be $225.00 – payment plans and scholarships will both be available.

Actor/Comedian/Writer Tom Segura is one of the biggest names in the comedy business. He recently performed to sold-out audiences on his 100 city TAKE IT DOWN TOUR. He is best known for his Netflix specials, Ball Hog (2020), Disgraceful (2018), Mostly Stories (2016), and Completely Normal (2014). Paste Magazine described him as, “…having a natural and capable storytelling ability, one that lifts his narratives out of average anecdote fare and plants them firmly in hilarious ground.” Additionally, his hit Podcasts Your Mom’s House which he co- hosts with his wife, comedian Christina Pazsitzky, and 2 Bears 1 Cave which he co-hosts with Bert Kreischer have rapidly grown to two of the biggest comedy podcasts today.
Segura can be seen in the STX FILM COUNTDOWN opposite Elizabeth Lail. He also broke through with a big role in the Paramount Pictures feature film INSTANT FAMILY opposite Mark Wahlberg and Rose Byrne. Segura’s television credits include The Late Show with Stephen Colbert, Conan, Workaholics, Happy Endings, The Late Late Show, Comedy Central Presents: Tom Segura, Mash Up, and How To Be A Grown Up.
Segura has an increasing social media following (@seguratom on IG) and also regularly appears on radio shows like the Bennington Show and some of the most downloaded podcasts in the world of comedy such as The Joe Rogan Experience and WTF With Marc Maron among others. His fourth hour-long stand up album Mostly Stories sat atop the iTunes and Billboard Comedy charts for consecutive weeks and his first two albums Thrilled and White Girls with Cornrows debuted at number 1 and continue to play heavily on satellite radio and streaming music platforms. When he isn’t performing on stage or recording a podcast he’s watching College Football or waiting for College Football to come back.
Segura is originally from Cincinnati, Ohio and currently lives in Los Angeles.

What Is Outpace Hunger?
Looking for a way to make a real impact this spring and summer? Feed people while pursuing your passion through Outpace Hunger, an action-based fundraising campaign that turns a favorite activity into meals!
For decades, MANNA FoodBank has been working to outpace hunger and food insecurity all across 16 counties of Western North Carolina, including the Qualla Boundary. The 2022 campaign runs May 1 through September 30, and we invite you join the growing community of folks who are Outpacing Hunger alongside of us!
How It Works
Participating in Outpace Hunger is easy!
You decide your level of commitment, so every participant can create their own path to helping provide food to our community. Participants also decide how, when, and where they complete their goal, any time now through the campaign end on September 30.
Outpace Hunger participants:
(1) Register to be a part of MANNA’s Outpace Hunger community. The $20 registration fee includes a t-shirt for you and provides 80 MEALS for neighbors facing food insecurity in WNC.
(2) Choose a favorite activity (run, walk, roll, stroll, hike, bike, paddle, climb, float, skate, golf, and everything in between!) to complete individually, or as a family/group/team.
(3) Set a goal to reach. This can be an activity-related goal, a fundraising goal, or both.
(4) Invite friends and family to support your fundraising efforts through your own, personalized Outpace Hunger webpage.
Whether running a 5K, walking your neighborhood, hiking the Mountains to Sea trail, or paddling the French Broad River, Outpace Hunger participants play a vital part in ensuring our WNC neighbors have access to healthy food.

Hiking Challenge 6 is here! In Conserving Carolina’s and WPA’s White Squirrel Hiking Challenge 6, you get to explore the places you’re helping to protect—and they’re amazing! We invite you to take eight hikes on lands that Conserving Carolina has helped to protect, enhance, or open to the public.
This challenge includes two all-new Conserving Carolina trails with gorgeous views! Plus, you can see the highest waterfall east of the Rockies, lakes and waterfalls in DuPont State Recreational Forest, expanded trails in Bracken Mountain Preserve, and a beautiful creek in the Green River Game Lands. There’s also the all-time favorite Bearwallow Mountain with its 360-degree views over the mountains and countryside we’re working to protect.
These hikes will take you to some of our region’s “greatest hits,” as well as hidden gems where you may have the woods to yourself. If you’re into mountain biking, you have the option of biking some of these trails. And if you love to swim, fish, or just be near the water, five of these hikes take you to rivers, lakes, or waterfalls.

- Only hikes that you’ve done after Oct. 1, 2021 count toward Hiking Challenge 6.
- You can complete the hikes on your own or as a group.

The Hiking Challenge is free and open to all, but you must be a Conserving Carolina member to become a Hiking Challenge 6 Champion. If you are a member and you complete all 8 hikes, you will earn your White Squirrel Patch and exclusive perks from local businesses that support conservation, including Appalachian Coffee Company, Lazy Otter Outfitters, Murphy’s Naturals, and YAM Yoga and Massage. Most importantly, you get to experience eight great places and deepen your personal connection to land conservation.

Join us at Eliada Home’s campus for a small group guided walking Farm Tour. Tours last approximately 1 hour. Participants will learn about outdoor and greenhouse growing practices, aquaponics, hydroponics, market gardening, corn maze production, and learn about our Animal Therapy program.
We will be meeting at the PARC building and walking to the different greenhouses, garden site, and a visit with our animals. Reservations required, tickets are $10 each visitor (to be collected at the time of the tour).
We recommend bringing the following: comfortable shoes for walking on pavement and grass, hat, sunglasses, and sunscreen. This tour is not handicap accessible and will require participants to climb stairs and walk on uneven ground.
We will begin out tour promptly at the starting time, so please arrive 5-10 min early to allow for parking and check-in. If you are running late or cannot make your tour, please email [email protected] or call #828-348-2287.
All proceeds from ticket sales from your farm tour go directly back to helping the Campus Farm Program grow more food for the children of Eliada!

Girls on the Run Northeast Tennessee will host its “Glow the Distance Color-Splash" 5K event on Friday, May
6 th at 6:30 PM at Towne Acres School in Johnson City. Girls on the Run is a physical activity-based, positive
youth development program that uses fun and engaging running games and dynamic discussions to teach life
skills to girls in 3 rd to 8 th grade. During this eight-week program, girls participate in lessons that foster
confidence, build peer connections, and encourage community service while they prepare for an end-of-
season celebratory 5K event!
Participation in the 5K event is open to the public and all proceeds will benefit Girls on the Run Northeast
Tennessee to provide scholarships for area girls to participate in the program during the fall season. The last
5K event brought together over 1,000 participants which included program participants, their family and
friends, and community members. Registration cost is $25.00 in advance and $30.00 on the day of the event.
Registration before April 22 nd guarantees an event shirt and all participants receive a medal, 5K bib, and the
satisfaction of knowing you helped provide the life-changing program to a young girl in Northeast Tennessee
and Southwest Virginia!
Packet Pick-Up will be on Thursday, May 5 th , at Academy Sports + Outdoors, from 5:00-7:00 PM. The 5K will
begin at 6:30 PM on Friday, May 6 th at Towne Acres School. Participants may park at North Johnson City
Baptist Church, Harvest Time Baptist Church, and along the streets near the school. Check-in and pre-event

Now that Humans are extinct and the world as we knew it has ended, the Octopus has a decision to make… Will it be willing to give up one of its three hearts in order to create a new, more sensitive human being? Will it be willing to give humanity a second chance? HUMAN is told through the windows of a sunken submarine, using images of the human heart, and a hybrid of puppetry styles. Meant to be enjoyed by children 5 and older and their families, it consists of projection design, sound design, dance, puppetry, and sensory play that explore what it means to be HUMAN.
The cast features April Tilles, Joshua Chung, Kaylyn Carter, Khalilah Smith, Olympea, Rebekah Babelay and Tippin.
Creator and Khunum Productions Artistic Director, Nehprii Amenii says “in a world increasingly mediated by technology and flattened screens, this piece will offer a space for audiences of all ages to explore humanness, touch, and interconnectedness.”

This was the show we were about to produce just as the world went into lockdown. Perhaps it’s appropriate that it’s a comedy about the end of the world. If you haven’t yet had enough of the real end of the world, feel free to join us for some real belly laughs at its expense.
The play brings together Jules, a grad student in marine biology, and Jo, a journalism student, for, supposedly, a casual sexual encounter. Jo soon comes to realize that her planned-on one-night-stand is actually a ruse, perpetrated by Jules, to find an Eve to his Adam after he has discovered a pattern in fish behavior that portends the end of all life on earth. Stuck in Jules’ laboratory, they wait out their impending doom. A third character, Barbara, serves as our guide to the end of civilization as we know it.
In the sequel to Nunsense and Nuncrackers, Dan Goggin’s endearing, eccentric nuns sing zesty tunes with a country-and-western twang. Sister Amnesia (a.k.a. Sister Mary Paul), having discovered her true identity and desire to be a country singer, finally records her debut country album, “I Could Have Gone to Nashville,” and goes on tour to promote it. The show, filled with hysterical one-liners and infectious comic songs, is sinfully funny.
Sister Amnesia’s Country Western Nunsense Jamboree’s production team includes HT’s Artistic Director Victoria Lamberth as director, the musical direction of Laura Williams, choreography by Matilyn Hull and Dru Dykes as stage manager. The Amazing Acro-Cats Ambush Asheville! See the only all-cat band in the world purr-form live!
The Amazing Acro-Cats are thrilled to be back on the road, bringing their unique show to Asheville, North Caroina on May 7th and May 8th.
The Amazing Acro-Cats is a troupe of rescued house cats who put on a one-of-a-kind performance for thousands of people across the United States. These talented felines roll on balls, ride skateboards, jump through hoops, and more. The grand finale of the show features Tuna and the Rock Cats, the only all-cat band in the world! The band includes Roux (guitar), Bowie (drums), and Nue (keyboard). There’s even a special guest joining in on their set – Cluck Norris, a chicken playing the tambourine and cymbal!
This two hour live purrformance is approved for all ages! While audience members marvel at the tricks these cats are able to perform, they also learn that it is possible to train a cat! Samantha Martin is Chief Executive Human of Tuna and the Rock Cats Rescue and leader of the show. Also the head of Rock Cats Rescue, she has found homes for over 325 cats and kittens. While encouraging and supporting clicker training – the fun and positive method using a clicker to train cats and other pets – the rescue also endorses responsible pet ownership in the process. About The Amazing Acro-Cats and Tuna and the Rock Cats Rescue: The Amazing Acro-Cats was founded in 2006 by Samantha Martin and the feline star of the show, Tuna. The Acro-Cats seek to educate the public on the benefits of clicker training by entertaining audiences across the country. The Acro-Cats support the mission of Tuna and the Rock Cats Rescue by promoting animal welfare, educating audiences on feline foster and rescue, and demonstrating the benefits of clicker training.
Hiking Challenge 6 is here! In Conserving Carolina’s and WPA’s White Squirrel Hiking Challenge 6, you get to explore the places you’re helping to protect—and they’re amazing! We invite you to take eight hikes on lands that Conserving Carolina has helped to protect, enhance, or open to the public.
This challenge includes two all-new Conserving Carolina trails with gorgeous views! Plus, you can see the highest waterfall east of the Rockies, lakes and waterfalls in DuPont State Recreational Forest, expanded trails in Bracken Mountain Preserve, and a beautiful creek in the Green River Game Lands. There’s also the all-time favorite Bearwallow Mountain with its 360-degree views over the mountains and countryside we’re working to protect.
These hikes will take you to some of our region’s “greatest hits,” as well as hidden gems where you may have the woods to yourself. If you’re into mountain biking, you have the option of biking some of these trails. And if you love to swim, fish, or just be near the water, five of these hikes take you to rivers, lakes, or waterfalls.

Asheville Creative Arts (ACA), Asheville’s professional children’s theatre, returns to live theatre with a 60-minute, multisensory puppetry experience, the world premiere of HUMAN. Written, directed and designed by Nehprii Amenii (CLICK, CLACK, MOO), HUMAN features original music by Martha Redbone and Aaron Whitby; lyrics by Nehprii Amenii, Martha Redbone and Aaron Whitby; choreography by Amparo Chigui Santiago; lights, projections and environment design by Marie Yokoyama; sound designs by Joo Won Park; puppet construction by Dan Jones and Tarish “Jeghetto” Pipkins; dramaturgy by Dr. Allison Curseen and Philip Santos Schaffer; with outreach from ACA’s Community Development Director, Daniele Martin. Now that Humans are extinct and the world as we knew it has ended, the Octopus has a decision to make… Will it be willing to give up one of its three hearts in order to create a new, more sensitive human being? Will it be willing to give humanity a second chance? HUMAN is told through the windows of a sunken submarine, using images of the human heart, and a hybrid of puppetry styles. Meant to be enjoyed by children 5 and older and their families, it consists of projection design, sound design, dance, puppetry, and sensory play that explore what it means to be HUMAN.
The cast features April Tilles, Joshua Chung, Kaylyn Carter, Khalilah Smith, Olympea, Rebekah Babelay and Tippin.
Creator and Khunum Productions Artistic Director, Nehprii Amenii says “in a world increasingly mediated by technology and flattened screens, this piece will offer a space for audiences of all ages to explore humanness, touch, and interconnectedness.”
