Join one of our Park naturalists for an informal program where your family will love meeting some of our wilder teammates! Kids of all ages are sure to take home some fun facts and special memories. Then, grab a Track Trail brochure at the Animal Discovery Den and round out the day with a hike along our Great Woodland Adventure trail with 12 education stations. Don’t forget your camera!

“Hola, Asheville” is a group for bilingual / bicultural families (English / Spanish) to get together and play, read and socialize in Spanish. Our goal is to create a fun environment for families to cultivate their other language by playing games, sharing stories about countries, and talking about books.

Every Monday, starting at 6pm, Highland will be hosting the East Side Social Ride with Asheville Bicycle Company.
Meet at Highland Brewing Company for a fun pedal, great company and amazing beers! Highland’s no-drop group ride welcomes participants of all ability levels for a moderate to easy paced 12-15 mile road ride from the Tasting Room. A drag rider will be on each ride to make sure everyone makes it back to enjoy a beer or two!
Asheville Bicycle Co. will be onsite with their mobile bike shop for some quick adjustments and expert advice to get your ride dialed in before we take off!
Helmets and reflectors or lights are required for all riders. Please arrive early for your first ride to sign a waiver.

NC Cooperative Extension will conduct a hands-on class to unravel the science and magic to making quality salsa.
Participants will learn the art of making salsa which will be preserved using a water bath canning method. This class offers a hands-on experience using food preservation techniques. In this class, we will discuss general preservation procedures, safety guidelines and regulations for making salsa. Be sure to bring a box to carry your hot jars home.
Everyone will go home with salsa and the skills to claim bragging rights from the NC Mountain State Fair this year!

This year’s theme, Rhythms of Diversity, brings percussionists from around the globe to Asheville to share their musical expertise, including four-time Grammy Award winner, Glen Velez; rhythm vocalist, Loire Cotler; and Balinese Gamelan Ensemble from New York, Yowana Sari. We also welcome back Persian daf and tonbak player, Naghmeh Farahmand, and versatile musical prodigy, Adam Maalouf, as well as djembe player, Adama Dembele, from Ivory Coast and members of the Asheville-based Samba group, Zabumba.
Check out the Residency Artists page on our website (http://www.ashevillepercussionfestival.com/artists) to learn more about the stellar lineup of talent for the 2019 festival. These inspiring musicians will create original compositions during the week to perform in a Masters Concert on Saturday evening, June 29th. Some of the featured artists will also offer workshops during the week-long intensive program and facilitate a sound meditation together on Sunday, June 30th, while several local musicians will facilitate the free community workshops on Saturday, June 29th.
This year’s Festival events, including the intensive program, are offered à la carte; create your own experience! This flexibility allows you to select the festival events you would like to attend, customized to fit your work and travel schedule.

There’s more than Chunky Monkey and New York Super Fudge Chunk in downtown Asheville’s Ben & Jerry’s this summer.
Art created by Vance Elementary School fifth grade students of art educator Robbie Lipe is now on display on the brick walls opposite the Ben & Jerry’s ice cream. The exhibit depicts the students’ interpretation of the artist Kehinde Wiley and the contemporary portraits he creates inspired by traditional Baroque paintings. It will be featured through the end of the summer.
“Ben & Jerry’s is excited about showcasing art from the community inside our scoop shop,” said general manager Chris Carter. “Making use of our walls to show what local artists are creating complements our social mission — to be actively involved in the places we live and do business. I hope this is the first of many art exhibits on our walls.”
Carter gave all the credit for the exhibit to Ms. Lipe, who teaches kindergarten through 5th-grade students at Vance Elementary. She was named the North Carolina Arts Educators Association “Art Educator of the Year” in 2017-2018.
Ben & Jerry’s is located at 19 Haywood Street. Current hours are Monday-Thursday 12 pm to 10 pm; Friday 12 pm – 11 pm; Saturday 11:30 am – 11 pm; Sunday 11:30 am – 10 pm.

The WILDLY popular Baby Gym returns for the summer! FREE play time for the little ones ages 0-3 years features baby- and toddler- sized toys, tunnels, balls, climbing structures, and more active indoor fun.

ATS® Level 1 – Dance Fundamentals
This is an on-going class series. You’ll learn the basic system of ATS® in a fun and supportive environment. Dance Fundamentals will have you dancing ATS® in your very first class! Each one hour class is divided into two sections.
1. Drill it – Learn the basic movements of ATS® with minimal verbal instruction and lots of following along, committing the steps to muscle memory with a fun workout-style drills.
2. Dance it – Experience the magic of ATS® and learn how to use the basic steps to dance with partners in a duet, trio, and quartet formations.
You can start this on-going class series at anytime and drop-in for drills and review.
ATS® (American Tribal Style) Belly Dance is an improv tribal style belly dance that is universal worldwide with every move having a certain cue with a leader and followers in a duet, trio, or quartet formation that is always changing leads. The beauty of ATS® is a strong Flamenco influence, along with India and North Africa dance, combined into tribal style belly dance. If you know ATS® you can dance with anyone in the world that also knows ATS®, even just meeting for the first time!
Bio
Michelle has been dancing ATS® (American Tribal Style) since 2006. She has taken countless ATS® workshop classes around the United States to further her education, knowledge, and skill of ATS®. Michelle received her ATS® Teaching Certification in 2015, and had her own troupe, Mystique Mountain Tribal Belly Dance, in Charlotte before moving to the Black Mountain area.
