GHOST COMEDY BUS TOUR
Grab a local beer, crucifix and a rubber chicken* —You might survive this hour long hilarious haunted ghost tour of Asheville.

“Once upon a time, there was a little ogre named Shrek….” And thus begins the tale of an unlikely hero who finds himself on a life-changing journey alongside a wisecracking Donkey and a feisty princess who resists her rescue. Throw in a short-tempered bad guy, a cookie with an attitude and over a dozen other fairy tale misfits, and you’ve got the kind of mess that calls for a real hero. Luckily, there’s one on hand… and his name is Shrek.
Shrek presents a treasure trove of creative opportunities, including costumes, sets, puppets (there is a fire-breathing dragon after all) and more! Irreverently fun for the whole family, Shrek proves that beauty is truly in the eye of the ogre.
Shrek is produced by our APAA Company members. This production is double cast. If you are interested in seeing a specific performer, please consult with them before purchasing tickets. Tickets will not be refunded or exchanged to see a specific performer.

Modelface Comedy presents AVL Underground Comedy
James Hamilton is one of the sharpest up-and-coming comedic voices in the country. He is an Emmy-award winning writer and is preparing to record his debut stand-up album with ASpecialThing Records. James currently writes and regularly appears on VICE TV’s Vice News Tonight. He was a co-writer for the feature-length documentary, The Neutral Ground (Tribeca Film Fest 2021, POV on PBS), which was executive produced by Roy Wood Jr. and nominated for an Emmy and a Critics Choice Award. James won The Moth NYC GrandSlam with his story on the topic of “Over My Head” and, before that, was a featured writer for NBC’s Scene Showcase. James was previously a member of the sketch comedy group Stupid Time Machine, whose work was featured in Funny or Die, Bustle, and Upworthy. He has performed around the country and at some of North America’s top comedy festivals, including San Francisco SketchFest, Austin’s Moontower Comedy and Oddity Festival, and Toronto Sketchfest.

Have you ever wished upon a star? Now is your chance! Join PARI from 9:30-11:30pm on May 5, 2023 for an evening viewing the Eta Aquarids Meteor Shower and the night sky at our historic, mountaintop, Internationally certified Dark Sky Park.
Grab a picnic blanket or bring your own lawn chair and sit back and relax while enjoying the show that space provides as meteors rain down throughout the night from Halley’s Comet! This meteor shower is expected to produce 10 to 30 meteors per hour. PARI astronomers will also be on hand with telescopes for you to experience the night sky.
The nation’s largest comedy club network, The Comedy Zone brings top-notch comedians to the stage for the best in late-night laughs! This weekend features headliner Reno Collier in the Tina McGuire Theatre at the Wortham. A former P.E. teacher, Reno has a unique outlook on life that endears him to a wide range of audiences. In addition to selling out comedy clubs nationwide and a half-hour special on Comedy Central Presents, his national tours look more like a comedian’s wish-list than a resume, including theater and arena tours with the legendary Jeff Foxworthy, Bill Engvall, Ron White and Larry the Cable Guy. Reno’s past TV credits include NBC’s Late Friday, The Martin Short Show, and TBS’s Blue Collar Comedy: The Next Generation. Contains adult content.

Matilda is a little girl with astonishing wit, intelligence and psychokinetic powers. Matilda’s school life isn’t completely smooth sailing, however – the school’s mean headmistress, Miss Trunchbull, hates children and just loves thinking up new punishments for those who don’t abide by her rules. But Matilda has courage and cleverness in equal amounts, and could be the school pupils’ saving grace!

It’s a “big bright beautiful world” as everyone’s favorite ogre, Shrek, leads a cast of fairytale misfits on an adventure to rescue a princess and find true acceptance. When Shrek sets off with a wisecracking donkey to confront Farquaad, he’s handed a task — if he rescues feisty princess Fiona, his swamp will be righted. Shrek tries to win Fiona’s love and vanquish Lord Farquaad, but a fairytale wouldn’t be complete without a few twists and turns along the way.

Each season comes to an end with a celebratory 5K. This closing event gives program participants of all abilities a tangible sense of accomplishment. Crossing the finish line instills confidence through completion and is a joyful moment program participants always remember! Everyone in our program receives a commemorative medal to celebrate this incredible achievement.

Embark on a scenic journey across George Vanderbilt’s Italy with a large-scale outdoor display that combines brilliant botanical designs with authentic messages written by Vanderbilt himself.
Beautifully handcrafted of natural elements, each sculptural postcard depicts a location or landmark Vanderbilt visited more than a century ago. This captivating complement to Biltmore’s Italian Renaissance Alive exhibition reveals Vanderbilt’s passions for travel, culture, architecture, and art as well as his personal experience of such renowned Italian cities as Milan, Florence, Venice, Pisa, and Vatican City.

It’s never too early to start planning for summer camp. Asheville Outlets and Give to the Music are teaming up to host the Summer Camp Expo on Saturday, May 6th at Asheville Outlets. The Expo will give parents and campers the opportunity to meet representatives and view booths and displays from a variety of area camps, including: traditional overnight camps, sports camps, arts camps, day camps, academic camps and more. The event is free and open to the public. Booths and displays will be located throughout the center.
If you have a camp or organization that would like to have a booth at the Expo please contact Dena Clark at (828) 252-1888 or [email protected]. Registration is now open and space is limited. 100 percent of booth costs will benefit Give to the Music, a local non-profit funding music lessons for kids in need.

Mills River Day is a free-to-attend large-scale community event that highlights agriculture, natural resource management, water quality, and the talents and related businesses in and around the Mills River Community. It features live music, vendors, food trucks, a kid zone with bounce houses, a tractor show, a horse show, a farm tour, hands-on activities, and more!
Toybox’s (mostly) Monthly Puppetry Series
Presented by Toybox Theatre, with special guest artists
Toybox Theatre, in collaboration with The Magnetic Theatre, presents a new puppetry series for ALL AGES. This new series will feature original works by acclaimed award-winning puppeteer and clown Toybox, and will bring some of the best puppeteers in the nation as special guests!
Toybox Theatre has been entertaining audiences from coast to coast with their unique brand of humor and art for over 20 years! Garnishing many “fan favorite” and “funniest show” awards, Toybox has also received an UNIMA Citation for Excellence in the Art of Puppetry, and funding from The Jim Henson Foundation.

The What’s Shaking? Music and Dance Party is a live interactive music, rhythm and rhyme concert for littles (ages 0-7) and their adults, based on the curriculum of local pre-school teacher Ryan Glass (aka Mr. Ryan).
Join Mr. Ryan and friends for a funky 60 min romp through poems, songs, drum jams and dance moves! Set in the lovely Sweeten Creek Brewery field, with plenty of space and shade for everyone- plus award-winning locals beers and Bear’s Smokehouse BBQ- these community gatherings (on the 1st Saturday of each month during the outdoor season) are a unique brand of awesome and NOT TO BE MISSED for parents of Buncombe Co!
