ASAP has launched the Appalachian Grown Farmer Relief Fund to
strategically address the emergency needs of farms during COVID-19 disruptions. Funds will be used for public health preparedness grants to farmers markets, to subsidize essential farm product packaging, and to purchase unsold food for donation to hunger programs. Donations to the Appalachian Grown Farmer Relief Fund can be made online at asapconnections.org or by mail or phone.
Getting started gardening can be exciting, and it can feel daunting.
Your teachers, Natalie Bogwalker and Chloe Lieberman share experience-based, practical instruction for growing their top ten vegetables to really fill your plate, belly, and larder. We put together this class so that you can begin with the crops that are most likely to be successful and rewarding. Or, if you’ve got some experience gardening but want to expand your repertoire, this course will help you do so in a way that makes sense and yields abundantly.
As the growing season ramps up and social isolation continues to define our days, gardening is the perfect way to get outside, ease your mind, and support our local ecosystem – all while maintaining appropriate social distance. Whether you’re nurturing a decade old garden or are using your quarantine time to put plants in the ground for the first time ever, our new program has the tools and certifications for all levels of expertise. Certified gardens receive an official certificate and have the option to purchase one of our Certified Pollinator Habitat signs!

Throughout the series, we have been talking about how we as a community can be resilient when faced with stressors. In the light of COVID-19, continuing that discussion is crucial.

Come learn all about trees from local experts! We will be covering topics such as tree planting, tree pruning, basic tree biology, managing trees during construction, and more!

“Pocket” meadows of native plants provide an attractive, low-maintenance, and wildlife-friendly alternative to traditional perennial plantings. Unlike larger meadow plantings, small, informal, and simply managed pocket borders can be tucked into a variety of spaces in your landscape, providing habitat and sustenance for pollinators and other insects, as well as being attractive landscape additions. Lisa will share her experiences with a variety of small meadow plantings using native Southeastern wildflowers and grasses and talk about how to manage them for four-season interest. She’ll also provide suggestions for native plants best suited for combining in informal meadow plantings in the western Carolina’s.
Lisa Wagner was the Director of Education at the South Carolina Botanical Garden, Clemson University for over 20 years. A plant ecologist by background (Ph.D. in Botany, UC Berkeley), she’s interested in native plants, sustainable gardening, public education, and promoting habitat restoration, as well as being a passionate gardener. She now does frequent presentations and classes as a volunteer, on a variety of topics. Her blog, Natural Gardening (www.naturalgardening.blogspot.com) reflects her observations about gardening and the natural world.

We are joining the COVID-19 approved ASAP Farmers Market The market is on campus open the public! We will be set up there with our plants; however it will be a reduced selection.
Come early for best selection!!
Note: We will not be collecting money at the market. Instead, we will provide you with a link to the A-B Tech Foundation which will allow you to make a tax deductible donation for your plants. All proceeds go directly to the Gnilka Memorial Scholarship. Thanks for your continued support and stay well!!

The market will operate for as long as necessary, possibly expanding to other locations and days of the week as opportunity and demand allows.
Market Rules
- No customers or vendors exhibiting symptoms may enter the market.
- Maintain 6 feet of social distance at all times.
- One customer at a time for each vendor table.
- Only handle product you are purchasing. Products will be pre-packaged or bunched.
- Children, if they must attend with adult shoppers, must be closely supervised.
Anyone failing to comply with these conditions will be directed to leave the market.

Local Asheville comics are submitting a currently filmed comedy video of 5 mins or less to compete for funniest video for a cash prize and the fame and fortune that will come with winning such a prestigious event. 1st: $100. 2nd: $50 and 3rd: $25. And of course trophies or some kind or other.
The Internet decides the funniest video on our fancy internet voting machine which will be revealed later..
