Growing up just down the road from Doc Watson, Billboard-charting artists Cane Mill Road rock the traditional bluegrass standards they grew up on, yet boldly tackle writing original music that often walks the lines between Bluegrass, Americana, Old-time, and Folk. Audiences love Cane Mill Road’s high-energy performances, easy going rapport both on and off stage, and the eclectic mix of originals and standards in the show.

Michael Trent and Cary Ann Hearst make up Shovels & Rope, a musical duo who have been married for over a decade. As parents, bandmates, and creative collaborators, the pair have released four studio albums, two collaborative projects, and continue to build their reputation on sweat, skill, and yes, blood.
Trent and Hearst are accomplished musicians in their own right, but since dedicating themselves to Shovels & Rope full-time in 2008, they’ve made a career together and have carved out their niche in the music world. They now occupy a space that blends roots, indie, folk, and rock-inspired efforts to provide fans with a unique sound backed by powerful live shows, far-reaching tours, and myriad TV and festival appearances. In May of 2018, the duo recorded By Blood from their home studio, an album featuring ten vignettes that focus on vulnerable human characters with traits that endear the subject to listeners and that the songwriters recognize in themselves.
In addition to performing, Trent and Hearst are authors of the children’s book “C’mon Utah!,” curators of festivals, including the High Water Festival held in North Charleston that brings tens of thousands of people in, and film producers.

Rosie O’Donnell declared Sandy and Richard “MY105C Montreat Road FAVORITE NEW SINGING SONGWRITING TEAM” on Twitter. Comedy Cabaret Couple Sandy and Richard Riccardi are satirizing every thing within reach of a piano, specializing in progressive parody.
Sandy and Richard Riccardi have been taking on the political world with their patented blend of comedy cabaret and socio-relevant lyrics since their first viral video, “Hockey Mama For Obama” back in the simpler times of 2008. They have continued to entertain over 60 million viewers with hits like “Tiki Torch Nazis,” “The Boy From Mar-a-Lago,” and most recently Sandy was featured on the Roy Zimmerman mega-hit “The Liar Tweets Tonight.” Sandy and Richard are thrilled to be back in one of their favorite venues, the White Horse Black Mountain, to guarantee laughter in the midst of pandemic-monium.

It’s not a concert–it’s a party! Spend a nostalgic evening saluting three of the world’s most beloved musical groups, all of whom were instrumental in creating the Rock & Roll, Doo-Wop sound: CORNELL GUNTER’S COASTERS (“Charlie Brown,” “Yakety Yak”); THE PLATTERS featuring four of America’s premier singers performing their greatest hits (“Only You,” “The Great Pretender”); and THE DRIFTERS, one of Rock & Roll’s founding vocal groups with their 50-year catalog of hits (“Under the Boardwalk,” “This Magic Moment”). This show has songs to please every palate, delivered just the way you remember them when you first heard them on the radio!
THE DRIFTERS are a great reminder that love songs transcend all ages with hits from “Save the Last Dance For Me,” and “Up on the Roof,” plus the timeless “Stand By Me.” Named one of Rolling Stone magazine’s Top 500 Greatest Musicians, it’s no wonder that iconic classic American musicians were the first group to be inducted in to the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. Their beautiful “There Goes My Baby” enchants, but it’s the classic “Under the Boardwalk” that is the most played R&B disc of all time.
THE PLATTERS offer fans a chance to hear their debut single “Only You (And You Alone)” which launched the first African-American vocal group worldwide and their number-one hit “The Great Pretender” as well as “Smoke Gets in Your Eyes,” topped off by “My Prayer.”
This year is the 35th anniversary of the formation of CORNELL GUNTER’S COASTERS. The revival of hits from the ’50s lives on with the iconic doo-wop sounds of the 1950s and 1960s. Classics like “Poisin Ivy,” “Yakety Yak,” “Love Potion Number Nine,” “Searchin’,” “Young Blood,” and “Charlie Brown” are sure to please.

Lazybirds is a classic American roots band from the mountains of North Carolina. Specializing in good time music that is just about impossible not to move to, there is also a depth to the band that faithful fans have treasured over the years. According to the legendary Doc Watson, “Lazybirds play a good variety of blues, jazz, and that good old ragtime sound, and you will hear the flavor of that in anything they play.” The ‘Birds cover a lot of musical ground, from early American stringband music to Dylan classics, as well as classic sounding originals, but deep roots are what hold all of these sounds together.

As many bands do, Blind Phoenix (formerly The Second Civil War) started by accident. Chris Daniels and his wife Kim own a great little restaurant, The Silos, along the coast in North Carolina, and Rebekkah Hilgraves was in town helping a family member. She wandered in to the restaurant one night after a neighbor told her that there was a regular open mic night every Wednesday. They sat together, planned a couple of tunes and had a blast singing together the first time. Rebekkah kept visiting, got inspired to write a couple of songs, and an idea was born — let’s turn this into a Real Thing, and record an album. Over the next several months, both saddened and inspired by life events, more songs came to life. They planned recording sessions in Asheville, at White Horse Black Mountain and RadHaus. Truth or Dare was the result, and the rest, as they say, is history. They’ll bring back songs from the album, along with more new material they’re preparing for their next couple of albums!

A Monthly Concert Series WE’RE BACK!!! NOTE FROM ROBIN: Because of the coronavirus/COVID-19 pandemic, all live performances after March of last year had to be cancelled or postponed…including our brand new monthly concert series Carolina Celtic at White Horse Black Mountain. (We did manage to get the first concert, with Al Petteway, in under the wire before the pandemic forced us to cancel all the others – we were off to a great start, too, with a full house and a great show!) Now, with the development of vaccines and the gradual, cautious lifting of restrictions, we’re delighted to be STARTING BACK UP AGAIN as of June 2021. Whatever restrictions are in place in North Carolina at any given time will be in effect at White Horse Black Mountain – as I write this in April 2021, White Horse is open to live audiences at a limited capacity – but all Carolina Celtic concerts will also be livestreamed and archived on www.whitehorseblackmountain.com, as will all future shows at White Horse, so come join us wherever you are! – RB The award-winning Celtic duo of harpist Sue Richards and guitarist Robin Bullock, in partnership with White Horse Black Mountain, are proud to present CAROLINA CELTIC, a monthly concert series in Black Mountain, North Carolina. Carolina Celtic showcases Irish and Scottish musical traditions and explores their commonality with the Appalachian ballads and stories of the Carolina mountains. The concerts take place at White Horse Black Mountain (details and contact info below) the second Monday of every month at 7:30 pm ET. Every month Sue and Robin collaborate with a different guest artist, ensuring that no two Carolina Celtic concerts are the same. The inaugural season’s lineup of world-class musical guests is nothing short of extraordinary.
